In a major breakthrough, the UT police crime branch has dismantled an international drug syndicate operating in the Tricity, arresting three foreign nationals in a high-stakes operation.

The accused were caught red-handed while attempting to smuggle narcotics into the city.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Imoru Damian (31) and Okoye Nnamdi (31), both Nigerian nationals, and Toufe Yousouf (30) from Cape Town, South Africa. Police recovered significant quantities of cocaine and amphetamine, along with a Honda City car used in the operation.

The trio was produced in a local court and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.

According to SP Jasbir Singh, crime branch, Damian and Yousouf were residing in a rented flat in Kharar, Mohali, while Okoye was based in Delhi.
The crackdown began on July 22, when Damian was apprehended with 62.6g of amphetamine. He had entered India on a medical visa in 2021 and had overstayed illegally.

Damian's interrogation led to the arrest of his two accomplices. Okoye was found with 35.8g of cocaine and 5.73g of amphetamine, while Toufe, who arrived in India on a business visa in 2023, was caught with 34.85g of cocaine.

What's more alarming is the revelation that the trio operated in isolation, with handlers based abroad coordinating the network.

The syndicate sourced drugs from Delhi and targeted youth in the Tricity. Investigators also uncovered a disturbing link to a network of Nigerian students in Kharar, allegedly exploited for drug distribution.
