Gunmen Abduct Six Nigerian Law School Students Along Taraba-Benue Route by Newsgeek24(op): 4:03pm On Jul 27, 2025
At least six students of the Nigerian Law School have been reportedly abducted by suspected gunmen while travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Yola, Adamawa State, News360 Nigeria reports.

The abduction, which occurred late Saturday, July 26, is believed to have taken place along the Wukari-Benue axis, a route notorious for insecurity and attacks on travellers.

The students were on their way to resume academic activities at the Yola campus, which is set to reopen on Monday, July 28, following their court externship break.

Damilare Adenola, a fellow law student at the Yola campus, confirmed the incident to News360 Nigeria in a phone call on Sunday.

He revealed that those kidnapped include Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.

A student leader at the Yola campus, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter, confirmed that the case had already been reported to the police.

“We are currently in Yola. We have contacted the Adamawa Police Command. We are just waiting for more updates from them.”

“We haven’t got any concrete information yet,” the student said.

Yahaya Suleiman, the spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed that the command was aware of the abduction but clarified that it did not occur within Adamawa’s territory.

“The abduction did not occur inside Adamawa State. I would encourage you to contact the Benue State Police Command for more details,” he said.

He assured that both the Adamawa and Benue Police Commands are collaborating to ensure the safe return of the students.

“We cooperate not only with the police in other states but also with other sister agencies to ensure that those coming into Adamawa are safe, without harassment or intimidation,” Suleiman stated.

Efforts to reach Anene Catherine, the spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, have so far been unsuccessful, as calls and messages to her phone went unanswered.

This sad event shows how bad security is in nigeria but Tinubu deserves praise for working hard to improve safety even though, as they say "good things take time."

May they be rescue safe and sound. The insecurity across Nigeria is really frightening today.

Meanwhile, the council of legal education should kindly ensure candidates are posted to the law school closest to the higher institution where they graduated.

That axis is a crime scene. I stay there for 3 years and escaped multiple kidnapping. It’s just a normal daily business over there by Both the Indegen and Fulani in that zone.
There major business is arm robbery and daily kidnapping of unsuspecting travelers . The zone is notorious for brazen kidnapping both in the broad day light 12pm and midnight 12am , they operate at anytime . even with over 50 checking point manned by military, police and civil defense , each less that 50 meter away kidnapping is still unabated . They still kidnapp in between the short interval checking point.

Op Anene Catherine is no longer the Benue State Police Public Relations Officer. She's now heading a division in Benue. I pray for the safe return of the adopted. God will surely protect them from harm.

Tiv land criminality be like 5&6, it's a trade right from way back days of armed robbery to kidnapping. There's this kind of primitive lifestyle amongst the villages, even accident victims dey collect.

Imagine the kind of insecurity that is prevalent in this country. Some people on FB are discouraging people that to travel abroad because abroad is not good. You work and pay bills. Is it not better to work and pay bills than to remain in this country and be consumed by bandits, BK, killer herders, unknown gun men and kidnappers etc
