Peter Samuel Tope, a 35-year-old operative of the Osun Amotekun Corps, has allegedly died as a result of an attack allegedly carried out by a recently enlisted personnel of the Nigerian Army.

The incident, the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, in a statement on Sunday issued by Yusuf Idowu Abass, the agency Public Relations Officer, said occurred in Ijeda, Ijesa, Oriade Local Government Area on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Omoyele in the statement revealed that, “the assault took place around 5:45 p.m. The suspect, identified as Opejobi Fiyinfoluwa, reportedly approached the Amotekun station in Ijebu-Jesa dressed in military camouflage and made hostile remarks toward the operatives.

“Fiyinfoluwa stated clearly that one of the reasons he joined the army was to deal decisively with Amotekun personnel.

“His arrival, according to eyewitness accounts, was followed shortly by the brutal attack on Officer Tope.”

He also added that, “The victim, who was on a motorcycle, was stopped by the suspect and a group of unidentified accomplices. Without provocation, the attackers pounced on him, with Fiyinfoluwa allegedly striking Tope with a blunt object on the head, causing him to fall and sustain critical injuries.

“The attack lasted for about 20 minutes with no assistance rendered, leaving Officer Tope bleeding profusely on the road. The attackers reportedly fled the scene immediately after, with Fiyinfoluwa escaping on a commercial motorcycle.”

“Amotekun officers who arrived at the scene rushed the injured operative to Wesley Hospital in Ilesa. They also informed the Divisional Police Headquarters in Ijebu-Jesa and reported the matter to Lt. Col. Yunusa Isyaku at the Engineering Cantonment, Ede.

“Despite efforts by medical personnel, Officer Tope succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Sunday, July 27. His death has left the Amotekun Corps and his community in mourning.

“This is a senseless and despicable act, and we are committed to ensuring that justice is served,” Dr. Omoyele said.

Omoyele said the Corps has pledged full cooperation with police and military authorities to investigate the incident.

Omoyele confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the Corps would issue further updates as more facts emerge.

Amotekun operatives must have being a torn in his flesh as a criminal civilian, prompting him to join the Army.

Still he couldn't hide his disdain and still wanted to revenge, even as a fresh recruit.

The Army should do the needful. That recruit should be jailed and and the keys thrown away forever.

Some of our soldiers here in Nigeria only knows how to molest civilians. Bullies that runs away from insurgents and terrorists, but only have power for civilians, who can beat them to a pulp, but only wish to respect the uniform they are wearing.

Whatever the Amotekun operatives might have done, it is not enough to trigger this kind of reprisal.

This is why there is a clamour for state police. The National police and army cannot be trusted; they will know that some of them are working with bandits across the country.

This army are becoming unbearable
I was beating by this bandit called Army on Saturday around 3pm on my way from Abuja at the boundary between Kogi State and that of Ondo. What happens was that a young man bought a corn and throw the corn cover on the road side where Army check point was. As such , our bus was stopted and the driver was ask to bring the man out, he did and the man in questions was trying to explain to them that he's sorry and mean no disrespecting as such he wanted to pick what he dropped , this how the Army started hitting him, other passengers started pleading with the Army but keeps hitting harder , I was left with no option but confronted the Army and I told him point black that we have all been begging you and you refuse that if by chance anything happens to this man, you will equally go down. .. He stop beating the guy and asked me to pick all the litters around but I refused as such he started hitting me , and when his colleagues saw how I refuse to do what he said, they came to him and talk to this ear, they ask me to go but I have to do small shakara ... and is colleagues hold me and pleaded.....
