Tolu2024:
The cost of fighting Russia in a proxy war they senior brothers are now begging 🙏 citizens to control to their debt 💸.

I know it just a scam because they can easily print more money and nothing will happen.

Just like they did during Covid.
They technically can but inflation is still very high due to the one they printed during Covid. The Bank of England is actually trying to remove money from the system to bring inflation back to 2% target. Printing more money now would risk a second wave of inflation and likely weaken the pound. A weakened Pound would also make imports more expensive. UK’s economy and survival is dependent on import, so that will drive inflation even higher.

BRICS is also a threat. BRICS countries are increasing trade in local currencies, not USD/GBP/EUR anymore. If they print more money, that means UK borrowing becomes more dependent on domestic and regional buyers, limiting cheap financing, international investors may sell UK bonds, weakening the pound even further. A strong, stable pound is part of the UK’s soft power. Printing money will now play into the BRICS strategy of discrediting Western financial systems. They are deep in hot soup.

So debt runs in the yansh of USA with $36 trillion and China with about $17 trillion ?
Even small South Africa has a debt of more than $600 billion dollars at the end of 2024.
Nigeria is owing mere $105 billion o.

The main thing is for govts to utilize the loans positively and not pocket them.
Secondly, the debt is jointly owed by the FG,state govts and the lgs.
👍🙏!

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

UK and some European countries are just pure stupid. Just imagine borrowing money to fund wars and other sorts of evil around the world. You borrow to sponsor Ukraine war. That's madness..

Who didn't see this coming? This is just a microcosm of the wider Western economic crisis. High debt, weakening growth, limited political space for reform, and bond markets growing nervous. Then we have BRICS around the corner grin The model of “borrow now, stimulate growth, worry later” is no longer working. BRICS has exposed them. Ee ti rinkankan.
But we are so proud Brit in the same ish...
Borrowing is not bad....Right. ?!

They should keep giving Ukraine billions of pounds every month out of fear.
This the reason Putun want to war to last for decades so that Europe economy will collapse.

Many people like ebilokan who has borrowed more money than previous presidents despite $84 billion subsidy savings in two years of petrol price hikes and hyperinflation.

What do you think ebilokan is doing with all this money, apart from stealing to bribe politicians he knows will get him reelected, since we are not interested in politics?

ManirBK:

The Federal Government says it has no intention to borrow from any local or foreign organisation with its removal of subsidy on petrol and exchange rate harmonisation.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Chief Wale Edun, revealed this at the end of the inaugural Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday in Abuja.

He said that the benefit of the subsidy removal would be ploughed back into various sectors aimed at boosting government revenue and improving the business environment for local and foreign investment.

Edun said that with the increased revenue from subsidy removal, various palliatives have been made available to cushion its effect on a short, medium and long-term basis.

He reiterated the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s desire to bring back the economy from the wood it has found itself over time.

How much is in Naira equivalence! This is the only way it can be useful and treatable to the APCs, their apologist and strategists. Anything outside of this reeks big grammar to Naija Govt. Some can help.

World of deceit...
Countries pay dues and contribute to a pool of funds.
Countries go back to borrow from the pool of funds.
Every country is in debt to the pool.
Yet there are still funds in the pool available for more borrowing.
What else can we call this than manipulation...?

What are we borrowing money for? Why is ebilokan borrowing more than previous presidents? Any idea why huh

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

Great100000:
UK government borrowing came in more than forecast in June, a setback for Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves that will fan speculation over potential tax hikes to shore up the public finances.

A surge in debt-interest payments sent the budget deficit to £20.7 billion ($27.9 billion), the Office for National Statistics said on Tuesday, £6.6 billion more than a year earlier and well above the £17.5 billion economists surveyed by Bloomberg expected.

Borrowing in the first three months of the fiscal year was £57.8 billion, around £7.5 billion higher than a year earlier
and in line with the forecast made by the Office for Budget Responsibility in March. The deficit had been running billions below official projections in April and May.

The level of borrowing leaves Reeves with a hole to fill in her autumn budget. Her fiscal plans have been knocked by recent U-turns over billions of pounds of spending cuts. There are also fears of a downgrade to official growth projections, leading many economists to warn that higher taxes are inevitable.

The chancellor is caught between febrile bond markets worried about government debt levels across advanced economies and rebellious Labour lawmakers who recently forced the government to pull back on reforms to welfare spending. Reeves has stood firm on her fiscal rules, which include a promise to fund everyday government spending with tax receipts by the end of the decade.

Gilts fell more than their German and US peers following the release, lifting the UK 10-year yield three basis points to 4.63%.

The deficit in June was boosted by a £16.4 billion debt-interest payment, the third highest for any month on record. The £8.4 billion surge from a year earlier was driven by a jump in inflation in April increasing the cost of servicing bonds linked to the Retail Prices Index, which make up a quarter of the total debt stock. However, this effect won’t be repeated in July, as the RPI barely rose in May.

“Things will probably get worse for the chancellor,” said Alex Kerr, UK economist at Capital Economics. “We think that she will need to raise £15-25 billion at the Budget later this year, with higher taxes doing most of the heavy lifting.”

The ONS said government receipts in June continued to be bolstered by the hike in employer payroll taxes that came into effect in April. Revenue came in at £86.8 billion, £5.7 billion more than a year earlier. Compulsory social contributions, which reflect the increase in national insurance contributions, were £48 billion for the first three months of the fiscal year, £7.5 billion higher than last year.

However, it was more than offset by rising spending with government expenditure in June climbing £12.4 billion to £97.1 billion. Besides debt costs, spending was also boosted by higher outlays on welfare and public-sector wages.

Net debt stood at £2.9 trillion, or 96.3% of GDP, in June — around the highest levels since the early 1960s. A wider view of the public finances used for the chancellor’s fiscal rules, known as public sector net financial liabilities, came in at £2.5 trillion, or 83.8% of GDP.

The Bank of England’s upcoming decision on quantitative tightening will be one factor determining the fiscal outlook. The Treasury is having to stump up for losses related to the BOE’s bond operations that are running into the tens of billions of pounds. There has been speculation it will halt sales of long-dated debt after signs of fragility in that part of the market.

The citizens of the UK will have to pay back the debts over the long-term through their taxes. That's a country that takes tax collections seriously but folks will have to bear the brunt for infrastructural development and more.

Na dem sabi

E nor consign us here
Almost everything in Nigeria has x5-x10 in the last 12 years.
My proposed solution is that the government should remove or hide one-zero from one currency.
E.g, whatever we're buying for 100 now should cost only 10, but salaries should remain the same cool
That's, minimum wage should remain 70k.
Sense no go kill me cool cool cool
That's what Ghana did and some other countries, Soludo wanted to do it but they blocked him. Once the currency is changed it is changed and nothing like minimum wage should remain the same, value is impacted
