So the sanctimonious Buhari under whose watch unbridled corruption engulfed this nation was also not aware his social intervention programs were riddled with unimaginable corruption? Not when the minister of humanitarian affair was a baggage of purifying corruption.

Why is everyone of these Buhari's rudderless and impactless govt trying in futility to exonerate him by whitewashing him for who he never was?
This is where we find ourselves today. Corruption has so eaten deeply into Nigeria that even ordinary colors (white, red and black) can easily be altered and some people will accept

One of my girls, who was given similar loan, did nothing with it. She’s now in the UK, blaming Nigerian government every day, on Facebook.

Joy, God will judge you o.

CBN staff who are in their Agric Department dey this table. Those people should be a n gd.
Year 2002 that year, one woman as their Head started a transport company from agric money meant for farmers.
She asked us to help her look for drivers and other farmers that she could use their farms to collect money from government.

Similar thing happened recently in Osun State. I came across a nurse who was asking a friend of her if that friend would need anti-malaria medications donated by donor agencies, before she finished selling and distributing it to people.

Her friends asked her how they do it to be able to go home with those medications and she said they use only one bloo d sample of a patient to complete thousands of forms (with fictitious names and addresses) to be able to say they have distributed those medications.

We stin k as people in this country.

I just read a whole lot of comments here and I am disappointed in the criticism being laid at the feet of the former president.

Most people here, and sincerely most Nigerian youths, seem to equate business on shop level to administering humongous corporations, especially when you are saddled with creating new processes and systems for regulation and checks/balances.

Most people who have 10 branches of a company would immediately tell you how difficult it is maintaining the culture in each one. But, at least, there is the fear of being sacked, litigations and industry wide reputation to keep most managers in check.

In the government sectors, you can't even sack arbitrarily. And most managers know they will out last your 4/8yrs in charge anyway.

It's a shitshow to say the least.

The real solution is faster litigation process and more transparent processes, accessible to public scrutiny. Nothing else.

But thinking one president sitting in Aso Rock will suddenly "catch" me as a councilor in one area of ikoyi for stealing allocation for school textbooks? Haba. Make we dey understand naaahhh.

For a better scenario, ask most pastors with a large congregation how many people they trust out of all the people who come on Sunday. Lol.

In summary,
Every single project under Buhari’s administration collapsed like a house of cards. Nothing worked.

They weren’t leaders — they were a parade of excuse-makers, chronic failures, and shameless looters parading as public servants.
A government packed with incompetence, corruption, and empty promises. Nothing but disaster in suits.

That's nothing but the truth. We are a very wicked people. What justifiable reason can be presented why local rice became more expensive than foreign rice? Greed! Overnight farmers/middle men were buying up produce in huge quantities and storing them up so as to sell during off seasons.

There are business models that exist in Nigeria that don't exist in any other country or the world. Why buy produce just to hoard? Just to remove produce from the supply chain so as to bring about increase in prices? That's wickedness.

Tinubu should allow wide imports of food into the country. We can't keep suffering from the wickedness of a few.
If Ahmad is saying that the loans were diverted, what did bihari do to punish those who diverted these loans to serve as a deterrent to others?

Re: Bashir Ahmad: Farmers Diverted FG Loans Into BDC, Oil Sector by epainos: 1:57pm On Jul 28, 2025
Farmers cannot easily divert it. CBN officials overseeing the fund are the ones who prepared oil and bdc clients as farmers to get the loans. It's a single digit loan which is cheaper than normal loans. And then, they added their own cut to the interest. Still cheaper than normal loans for them. If the system is set up well and they get real farmers who are devoted to food production, they won't divert it. Buhari failed seriously. Those CBN guys did so much evil during his time under Emefiele.

When you do something you don't understand that's the results

See when government shares money this is the results... It's doesn't work that way

How does it work u ask

1) Government sets the criteria for the loan
Eg) I) we want only Rice farmers to access this loan 2 ii) we want farmers with certain land size or years of experience

2) government then make the loan available to central bank say 200 billion

3) then tell banks if you have people who meet this criteria come take loan for them 10 million to 100 million at an interest rate of 2% and give them at 10%

Banks does the verification that way no body can scam the bank because they won't want to lose money

When we say government or failure of government is the reason for things like this people won't get
So the heads at the banks can't divert the loans for themselves, use it for their own ventures and repay it back, abi?

Nigerians are just something else. I hear of people who diverted billions from Agric loan to relocate. Most of them claimed flooding and security reasons for not paying back the loans. We are talking of over 500million to over a billion here. Some even used it for business at Trade fair, Alaba, Kano market , Lagos markets etc
This is one of the major problems we have in Nigeria. But we tend to focus only on the president or the government.
There's only so much the government can do. If we divert loans, steal drain covers and steal power line cables we all end up paying for it.
Re: Bashir Ahmad: Farmers Diverted FG Loans Into BDC, Oil Sector by fineboynl(m): 2:03pm On Jul 28, 2025
Some of them hoard the rice for the fake pyramid scheme. The beneficiary of those loan where given to relatives of the president with intention not to be paid back. Even some enter BDC business with help from cbn .

When Nigerians especially from the south shouting that the southern border should e open buhari turn a deaf ear. The program is responsible for the inflation in that administration and helped fuel end sars protest.

Even buhari was beneficiary of it with cattles
Re: Bashir Ahmad: Farmers Diverted FG Loans Into BDC, Oil Sector by WriterX(m): 2:04pm On Jul 28, 2025
The narrative that farmers broadly "diverted" agricultural intervention funds is not only misleading but a desperate attempt to shift blame away from the government’s failure to implement transparent, accountable, and inclusive systems for disbursement and monitoring.

For years, genuine smallholder farmers—the true backbone of Nigeria’s food system—have cried out that they were excluded from intervention programmes like the Anchor Borrowers' Programme (ABP), which was largely captured by political cronies, briefcase farmers, and elite proxies with no real investment in agriculture.

The CBN may have disbursed over ₦1.09 trillion under the ABP, but there was never a transparent, verifiable audit of who actually benefited, nor was there an effective framework to ensure equitable access by rural, often illiterate, farmers who lack political connections.

Blaming farmers for "diverting" loans is intellectually dishonest when the real culprits were the corrupt officials, intermediaries, and institutions who approved billion-naira disbursements without verifying land use, productivity benchmarks, or repayment feasibility.

Farmers across states have consistently complained of late disbursements, politicized selection processes, and inflated input prices. In many cases, farmers were handed substandard seeds and fertilizers by contracted middlemen who saw the programme as a cash cow, not a development tool.

Bashir’s claims that “some farmers got ₦6 billion” are not only suspect but a reflection of how poorly structured the interventions were—no real farmer managing two hectares of land would ever need, or receive, such figures. Those massive sums went to politically exposed persons and allies masquerading as agribusiness investors.

The same government that closed borders to “promote local agriculture” did not back it up with post-harvest infrastructure, access roads, mechanisation, or market support. What they achieved was not food sufficiency but market shocks, food inflation, and cross-border smuggling.

Hoarding of produce is a supply chain issue, not a farmer issue. Without government-regulated warehouses, fair pricing mechanisms, or price support systems, farmers naturally respond to market forces. Accusing them of sabotage is scapegoating.

Bashir’s defense of the failed border closure and its supposed poverty-reducing impact is contradicted by data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), which reported an increase in food inflation and a worsening multidimensional poverty index during that period.

If beneficiaries formed “cartels,” as he claims, then where were the regulators? The EFCC only began investigating years after damage was done—another sign that intervention implementation lacked foresight, accountability, and oversight from day one.

The IMF’s report that only 24% of ABP loans were repaid points not just to "abuse" but also to structural flaws in programme design, monitoring, and beneficiary profiling. Throwing money without support systems and expecting magic results is reckless governance.

The real betrayal here is not from farmers but from those in government who weaponized food insecurity for political gains, looted intervention funds, and now want to launder their failures by blaming the same people they ignored during the actual programme roll-out.

Rather than glorifying food import waivers as a stopgap, this administration and its sympathizers should admit that without institutional reform, digital farmer registries, direct-to-farmer subsidies, and independent audits, no agricultural policy will ever yield lasting results.

The masses are not fooled. Nigeria does not suffer from a lack of ideas or resources but from an elite class that consistently hijacks public interventions, then rewrites the story to shield itself from scrutiny and accountability.

The truth is simple: farmers were failed—not the other way around.

Bashir will just be talking anyhow. Why not be transparent and say it like it truly is.

Thank you!

Which normal farmer fit collect N6b? Who go give am? The largest pie went to top guns in the oil and gas industry, politicians, and directors at the CBN. The few billions they squeezed to real farmers was abused too; they exported the produce that was meant for Nigerians and hoarded the remaining to manipulate price.

You didn't talk about the character of the average Nigerian. Every government intention is manipulated and becomes tools of corruption. How can a people progress with this mind set? SureP, DRFRI, NDE, fuel subsidy etc. all good intentions but destroyed by the corruption mindset of average Nigerian. Nigeria needs total cleansing not only within the political class but character of the average Nigerian.
Stop the nonsense talk guy. The government has all the tech needed to tackle fraud in any poverty alleviation programs they start.

In other countries, there's universal credit, social security welfare - And also tools designed to prevent fraud.

But in Nigeria, they'll launch a poverty program, and instead of reaching the people who really need it, they'll hand it out to their cronies.

When it fails, they'll blame the masses, and people like you will eat it up.

You got genuine farmers in your village - did any of them benefit from these scam programs?

Let me break it down for. A farmer got a loan and other subsidized implements to farm 100 acres of rice. After harvesting, he stored everything in his store and refused to sell. So, how exactly do you deal with such people? Break into their store and forcefully sell the rice to Nigerians? Arrest them and throw them into prison for not selling their rice to the public?

The path forward for Africa lies in cultivating higher and adequate levels of personal and communal agential integrity as well as full personal responsibility and productivity. Not to mention creativity (including epistemic creativity), productive justice (such as merit and freedom), harmony and reconciliation at local and international levels, and a proper domestication of capitalism and other related values and institutions.

Africa must stop wasting her time on dreams of socialism because it is a system of wealth distribution primarily. Whereas, capitalism is a system of wealth creation primarily, and wealth has to be produced before it can be distributed.
