Ohanaeze is right. Nigeria is too multicultural to have just two ethnic traditional rulers as the co-presidents of a nationwide traditional council. But every day, I see why IbeOkehie adores the King and Anglophones. Some racial groups in certain regions would never make it. It is not a curse, it is just the reality. |

The below should make it clearer to you Myths are based on historical events and people, but with later embellishments and supernatural elements. Maybe they need to spell it out to you like ABC. |

Obi of Onitsha is the only first-class king recognized by all Igbos. We may also classify King Charles of UK as a first-class king. Those Nigerian low-life individuals are not even up to third-class chiefs in Igboland. |

zeuss:No, I'm not using population to validate development superiority. I'm using population to say that the Benin or its monarchy cannot birth the Yoruba or its monarchy as you posted. It is more probable to say that both Kingdoms have separate origins. By vastness of the empire of Oyo, I meant to say a much lesser empire like that of the Benin kingdom cannot be the progenator of the Yoruba monarchy. The reverse will be the case. I also refuted your Oba title claim. The Benin king is an Ife prince because a Yoruba king once ruled Benin. You still have Yoruba fingerprints there in your palace. There's a place there where you bury Oyo kings in the Benin palace labelled Orun Ọba Oyo. You may erase all references to Yoruba In your traditions but you cannot completely remove the Yoruba fingerprints. Here is what Wikipedia has to say.in the screenshot attached below. This is consistent with your Omo 'n Oba title for your kings. They're Omo oba. Princes of a Yoruba king.

Well your oba of Benin is surbordinate to the ooni of ife and everyone vast in history knows this, even the picture below illustrates that fact, like you can see your oba seated behind the ooni of ife ![]()

Why are you people always bent on tribalist views and distorting history? All these historical distortions originated from the last Omo N’Oba, who attempted to re-write history! Simple question you need to answer (maybe by doing a little research on your own) is: what’s the literal meaning of “oba” in Benin (Edo) language? It has a well-defined, elementary meaning in Yoruba language. zeuss: |

saddler:Correct to some extent. However, I want you to understand that Oranmiyan was himself a prince of a Yoruba king. That means Yoruba existed and had a monarchy before Oranmiyan ventured into Benin. Also, you need to note that Oyo is part of Yoruba. So, a reference to Oyo is not a reference to the whole Yoruba. So, while Oranmiyan left Benin to found the Oyo empire, it does not mean He founded the Yoruba people after leaving Benin. Please differentiate between Oyo and Benin. Oranmiyan's activities do not make Benin older than Oyo. Though it might be correct to say the Benin people existed in Nigeria before the Yoruba people settled in Nigeria. However, the Benin never ruled over Oyo but an Oyo Prince once ruled over Benin. I already attached a screenshot below - taken from Wikipedia. The bone of contention is that the Benin monarchy cannot birth Yoruba monarchy. The Yoruba monarchy is too vast to be an offspring of the Benin monarchy.
