Suprised are the inclusion of Sarah Ogoke as she was neither in camp nor was she in the provisional list. If I'm being frank I don't like this. Even for sentimental reasons, her inclusion makes no sense.
..Same here, i do not like it at all, we should be very careful how we do things....she was not ion camp for a day to my knowledge...that is very bad..

Not being in camp is one thing, being fit is another. Sarah isn't a professional basketball player. She's a doctor who plays basketball on the side. So the only time she gets to get fit is when she trains personally or when she comes to camp.

Consider also that she's a nursing mother who had to be excused from the team so she could deliver her baby. So we aren't just talking about a non-professional basketball player we are also taking about one who hasn't seen a court in months. That's the issue for me.

If Musa for instance didn't make training camp and her name appeared on the list, I'll have no issues because she literally plays basketball daily so wouldn't have problems with fitness. Not sure about Sarah. Even if she does well at Afrobasket, it doesn't change the fact that this has set a bad precedence.

I totally get your logic, it is not the way to go in my opinion...Also i think NBBF get away with these things because few people watch basketball, if it were football, i doubt you can put a player that was never in camp in a final roaster.

I hope Wakama would thoroughly explain her surprise inclusion of Ogoke to us, because her inclusion makes no sense to me.

If she was brought on as a member of Wakama’s backroom staff, that would be entirely understandable, given Ogoke’s wealth of experience in the game. But bringing her along as a player, and denying another more active player a coveted spot, is frankly ridiculous.

I was shocked concerning Ogoke's inclusion in the squad too. We need another new face in that squad apart from Ojenuwa. Yes, Victoria Macaulay has displaced someone in the squad, but she is a great player. Sarah should call it a day from D'tigress squad after this tournament. She has been playing for Nigeria since 2011. Other younger talented ladies were in Camp in Abuja. Hmn.

I must commend Okogie for his dedication to the team... He was part of the squad that participated in the qualifiers,so his inclusion is merited ... .shame Metu isn't on the list....perhaps we could see another situation where he sneaks into the final list ...

It is why the inclusion of Sarah (who by the way is reportedly yet to arrive) is still very annoying, Every last person counts and playing with one roster sports shows we aren't showing respect for our opponents. I also think South Sudan is one to watch seeing what their guys have been able to do, wouldn't be surprised if the girls also put up a shocking surprise.

Honestly, Sarah's inclusion makes no sense, but lets hope it doesn't backfire...
About South Sudan, I share the belief that they can pull an upset in the tournament too.. Like their male counterparts, they are an emerging power in Africa basketball..

But I'm still sure our girls will win it.. The team is largely made up of players who have been together since 2023 Afrobasket, so the Chemistry is there.... Ezinne, Amy, Musa, Macauly, Pallas..... thats a solid starting 5

Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by lovewins: 5:42pm On Jul 28, 2025
Pretty sure we're going to win, but we've played some horrible basketball today. But for patriotism and support it's a bad watch.

Currently 45-50 in favour if Nigeria with 5 minutes left on the clock.
Re: Nigeria Basketball Thread! by PDPGuy(op): 5:55pm On Jul 28, 2025
FT:

Nigeria 60-55 Mozambique. 🇳🇬 now advances to the quarterfinals!

Also, D’Tigress are now 26-0 in Afrobasket play

....yeap....it felt we were heavy and all.. Cohesion still needs a lot of working on, might blame that on poor preparation...

....Musa missed quite a few towards the end of the game.. They better get a court around and go shoot around...Well, mission accomplished, on to the next stage of the competition.

I knew D'tigress will defeat Mozambique. Mozambique always give us a tough game. It will be very hard for any team to beat our ladies. What I am looking forward to is the FIBA Women's world cup in Germany next year. By the grace of God, we will win this Afrobasket in Ivory Coast . I want to see a stronger squad in Berlin next year by the special grace of God. I said it that Senegal might get defeated by a team in this tourney. Don't count Senegal out yet though.

Don’t know them. Will look them up.
Who knows, they, alongside Kiki, Michaela etc may suit up for us at the World Cup

Omohh honestly we can't play like this against Senegal or Uganda or Mali. Converting free throws was an issue today.
