FULL LIST: Ajibade, Okoronkwo, other Falcons top WAFCON’s best 11 list

Four Super Falcons stars, Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, have been named in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Best XI, following Nigeria’s dominant run to clinch their 10th continental title.

The Confederation of African Football Women via its official X handle (formerly Twitter), unveiled the tournament’s standout performers on Sunday.

“The stars who shined the brightest.

“Meet your Best XI of the tournament,” CAF Women wrote.
Ajibade, who was instrumental throughout the tournament, was voted Player of the Tournament.

The Atletico Madrid forward also claimed Woman of the Match honours in three of Nigeria’s six games, underlining her leadership and attacking flair.

Okoronkwo equally impressed, notching two goals and four assists.

Nnadozie was named the Best Goalkeeper after keeping four clean sheets, cementing her reputation as one of the continent’s safest hands.

Defender Alozie, who played every minute of Nigeria’s campaign, also earned a spot on the list.

Her decisive late winner against South Africa in the semi-final was one of the most memorable moments of the tournament.

The full Best XI include:

Chiamaka Nnadozie (Nigeria)
Michelle Alozie (Nigeria)
Rasheedat Ajibade (Nigeria)
Esther Okoronkwo (Nigeria)
Ghizlane Chebbak (Morocco)
Grace Asantewaa (Ghana)
Refiloe Jane (South Africa)
Bambanani Mbane (South Africa)
Karabo Dhlamini (South Africa)
Portia Boakye (Ghana)
Ibtissam Jraidi (Morocco)

Nigeria defeated Morocco 3-2 in a thrilling final to reclaim their status as African champions.

We Nigerians really should commend the host country for their hospitality despite the laser beam flashing by some of their bad eggs. They still deserve to be praised.

In such a thrilling match on home soil, with 2 goals up before being equalized and then being awarded a penalty that would have most likely sealed the game for them in the 80th minute but cancelled would have triggered them to be violent after the match but they remained calm in their loss. Had it been, it was against England on home soil in a final. I bet, Nigerians will go home with bloody nose.

Go and ask the Italians what happened to them when the defeated England in the 2021 Euro championship (men) in England.

More grease to the Morrocans elbow. The have really improved. The first time we ever played we beat them 10 - nil.

May all our efforts be crown with success well appreciated.

Plumptre and Ohale should be there. Plumptre is a class and a joy to watch. Ohale was solid in defence and capped her tournament experience with a beautiful goal.

I hope the news about Oshoala retiring isn’t true. I think she’s put on some weight and not as sharp as she used to be but this could be worked on. Falcons need her.
Onumonu was missing in action. I hope she keeps working hard. We missed her presence, aggression and energy.

And not the spectacular saves by the goal keeper. Why then do we need a goal keeper why not just the defenders alone. The award is an individual award.

They would have really be commended but the Laser lights spoilt it. It ruined what would have earned them a glorious reputation. Nigerians saw the Laser lights, Africa saw it, the world saw it. That was an embarrassment not only to Morroco but also Africa.

This is football bro...demands, equity , integrity, professionalism and fairness....not your typical African politics where every step is rigged to favor those who are at home advantage or the incumbent 🙄

I hope you know that the role of a goalkeeper goes beyond catching the ball? Organizing the defense during set-pieces and other threats, ball distribution, etc.

So, before you discredit our goalkeeper, find out why she was very highly rated in the French league (female) before she left there last season.
