We can all see that yorubas are the reason for tribalism in this country.

They need tribalism to survive because in a 3-horse race they will come last so they stoke the flames of tribalism to keep one tribe down.

They also know that Northerners are very emotional but highly uneducated so they play up anti-Igbo sentiments in the media to maintain the emotional North angry about Igbos.

Every Igbo crime or slight (especially against North or Islam) is blown out of proportion just to maintain their 2nd place position.

It is systemic.
No yoruba leader has come out to condemn it.
Whether Ooni or Alaafin or Afenifere or politician.
Why? They love it.
They had a meeting and agreed to it.

That is the only way they can survive.
I would never imagine Igbos going around to rename a yoruba or islamic street or Northerners renaming an Igbo street.
It's too low. Heck, the Abuja airport is named NNAMDI AZIKIWE AIRPORT!

Or was it Yoruba that force Ahmadu Bello to says some things about Igbo during the interview below. grin

Go to social media and see how Igbos insult northerners at the slightest opportunity. A northerner will post his child's naming ceremony, check comments, chinedu will insult. A tragedy will occur in the north, igbos will jubilate online and when you respond, they will start crying that they are being hated.

Good night
Hahahaha... I just dey laugh you.

The north will never ever forget the ethnic cleansing of the January 1966 coup that wiped out many northern leaders

The January 1966 coup was a bloody and brutal ethnic cleansing coup that was planned and executed by the Igbos to shift power from a Hausa man to the Igbos.

Even though many Igbos held many offices and the army was 80% Igbo, out of the 21 victims of the January 1966 coup, only one person was Igbo

The victims are as listed below
1. Sir Ahmadu Bello-Fulani from Northern Region.
2. Sir Abubakar Tafawa-Balewa-Gere from Northern Region.
3. Samuel Ladokr Akintola-Yoruba from Western Region.
4. Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh-Itsekiri from Midwest Region.
5. Hafsatu Bello (wife of Sir Ahmadu Bello)-Fulani from Northern Region.
6. Mrs Latifat Ademulegun (Brigadier Ademulegun's wife, who was pregnant)-Yoruba from Western Region.
7. Brigadier Samuel Ademulegun-Yoruba from Western Region.
8. Brigadier Zakariya Maimalari-Kanuri from Northern Region.
9. Colonel Kur Mohammed-Kanuri from Northern Region.
10. Colonel Ralph Shodeinde-Yoruba from Western Region.
11. Lt. Colonel Abogo Lagerma-Marghi from Northern Region.
12. Lt. Colonel James Pam-Jos native from Northern Region.
13. Lt. Colonel Arthur Unegbe-Igbo from Eastern Region.
14. Sergeant Daramola Oyegoke-Yoruba from Western Region.
15. Police Constable Philip Lewande-Minority from Northern Region.
16. Police Corporal Akpan Anduka-Efik from Eastern Region.
17. Police Corporal Hagai Lai-Minority from Northern Region.
18. Police Corporal Yohana Garkawa-Minority from Northern Region.
19. Lance Corporal Musa Nimzo-Minirity from Northern Region.
20. Ahmed Pategi-Minority from Northern Region.
21. Zarumi Sardauna-Minority from Northern Region.

The questions you should be asking yourself are
;1) How come only one out of the 21 victims is Igbo?
2) How come South East leaders were not touched even though they were the most corrupt leaders in the country at that time?
3) How come the coup was leaked to Azikiwe and he left the country for the UK on the pretext of going for medical treatment even though he never went to any hospital while he was out of the country?
4) Why did Major Obienu tip off ironsi and Ironsi went on a boat party after Maimalari's reception on the night of the coup?
5) Why did Ironsi ignore the report of the Special Branch of the Nigerian Police on the coup?
6) Why did Ironsi refuse to prosecute the coup plotters to the dismay of Nigerians
7) Why did Ironsi snatched power from Dipcherima (a Borno man) even though Dipcherima was the most senior Nigerian official after the leaders had been murdered?
9) Why did Ironsi quickly surrounded himself with Igbo officers and civilians immediately after the coup?

Bullshyte. Igbos always takes us northerners for uneducated or what. We saw all the tribalism.you pushed against us during 8 years of Buhari. The Yorubas have chosen to fire you back and not laid back as us Northerners.

You are now trying to play unintelligent emotional blackmail.

All the handles below are Igbos. The Rev is also Peter Obi's friend.

Everybody knows that Igbos want to change the narratives....

That is the reason they are opening threads all over social media and writing posts that Yoruba people are tribalistic so that when AIs like Grok or chatgpt scrapes the internet the AI tools will see many posts describing Yoruba people as tribal bigots and possibly begin to identify Yorubas as same.

You mean the same Mazi Kanu that has also called Igbos' 'derogatory' names? Fact of the matter is Mazi Kanu is a equal opportunities 'abuser' and doesn't discriminate based on ethnicity or religion....not even his own Igbo ethnicity are spared the sharp end of his tongue! Given the idiocy and stubborness of the average Nigerian, they deserve to be addressed harshly , and since some are overly sensitive and tribal, they tend to take offence, especially if the person addressing them is someone they despise ab-initio!

Nigeria is a failed British colonial experiment

Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa/Fulani should have gone their seperate ways a long time ago and formed their seperate countries
Re: Igbos And Hausa/fulanis Would Have Mended Fences Long Ago by danvon(m): 5:44am On Jul 30, 2025
So after all the pogroms and sharia slaughter of Igbos, it is Yorubas that is their problem.

This is how Azikiwe antagonized Awolowo and formed alliance with Balewa in the end they had to kill Balewa.

When people start seeing your civility for weakness, then you must change strategy to correct the wrong perception. Of course those other parties perceiving you as weak will be forced to have a re-think. That is the case for some people as we speak, they are still in shock about the awareness growing among Yorubas today.

It's on record that Yorubaland has played host to so many ethnicities and tribes in Nigeria who live and co-exist peacefully with their host.

It's also on record that Yorubaland is the most religious tolerant region in Nigeria where people from different faiths meet, fall in love and get married. PBAT is a good example, a Muslim married to Christian.

Yorubas no get problem o, but when one problem decides to show face, it will meet bigger problem.

Lastly, Yorubaland is not for sale.. I can't recall seeing any publication that placed "for sale" on Yoruba lands, most especially Lagos State.

Lagos State is not for sale.. a word is enough for the wise.

Not unity per se.. they want a return to status quo before Ahmadu Bello came and opened eyes of Northern people to their attrocities.
Unfortunately, the ship has since sailed.. no going back to that era of Igbos marginalizing Northerners in the North.

They don't yet understand that the ship has sailed, they are crying over the foamy waves in the sea while blind to the consequences of the ship leaving the port.

They’ve always shown us bitterness..

For example, imagine,,,, when Tinubu was a governor, he appointed Igbo men into his cabinet..

Imagine that kind bitterness..

Help me explain how tribalism even becomes a derogatory word...
Even Nazist that took the whole world to war are proud of their origin.

If not for inferiority, why will anyone want to deny their tribe just to please someone else?!
If you can't like my Amala and ewedu, you badmouth my tribe women as ugly and dirty, my language and dressings, even religion irritates you; whatever makes you think I will like you in contrast?!
If that's what tribalism is all about, then I am Proud to be a Tribalist!!!

Like the declaration in Muslim section, I think Nairaland should even make us declare our tribe before we comment.
