She defended the dream in ‘98.
She’s built it in ‘24. 🧤🇳🇬

Ann Chiejine is a born winner. ✨

Re: Ann Chiejine: Super Falcons Goalkeeper Trainer Who Won WAFCON As Player & Coach by naptu2(op):
Anne Agumanu-Chiejine

She was 17 years old when she was selected as Super Falcons' first choice goalkeeper ahead of the first Women's World Cup in China in 1991. She was Super Falcons' first choice keeper from 1991 till 2000. She was African champion in 1991, 1995, 1998 and 2000.

She was pregnant ahead of the 2000 Olympics but she didn't know. It was FIFA's medical officials that told her that she was four months pregnant. She chose to play at the tournament anyway. She also kept for Nigeria at the 2000 Women's African Nations Cup while five months pregnant.

South African fans became angry after Stella Mbachu scored Nigeria's second goal in the final of the 2000 Women's African Nations Cup in South Africa. They threw objects onto the pitch and stoned Anne Agumanu-Chiejine. She went to the referee to complain, but the referee sent her back to her goal. The fans then threw a large rock and Anne picked up the rock and ran to show it to the referee. I could read her lips and she was shouting, "See! See"! The referee then called off the match. Riot police came into the stadium to chase the fans away and the rioting fans destroyed journalists' cars and part of the stadium (they showed a little girl in the stands and the fear on her face was heartbreaking).

Anne was also a hairdresser. She owned a salon and she often did her teammates' hair in the national team (she dyed Mercy Akide's hair green and white and gave Florence Omagbemi a flame thrower orange tint). She's very famous for wearing a bandana while keeping and many young girls emulated her style.

It was thought that Anne Chiejine had retired in the early 2000s and she was appointed as the welfare officer for the Flamengos (the women's under 17 national team), but she returned in 2004 and was second choice goalkeeper to Precious Dede.

Anne played for CN Okoli, Flying Babes, Kakanfo Queens, Jegede Babes, Rivers Angels, Flying Angels, Larry Angels and Pelican Stars, all in Nigeria. She was invited for trials by Arsenal Ladies football club, but the British High Commission did not issue her a visa and she lost the opportunity.

Anne Chiejine retired in 2005, earned her coaching licenses and badges and was Nigeria's goalkeeper coach at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup. She was also the Super Falcons' goalkeeper coach when they won the WAFCON in 2016 and she also coached the Romanian club CS Negrea Resita.

Anne was so good that, in 1999 the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) mistakenly listed her twice in the top ten of their list of African Women’s Players of the Century. Her maiden name, Ann Agumanu, got 7 votes, and Ann Chiejine, her married name, got 14 votes.  She ideally should have shared first place with another Nigerian icon, Eucharia Uche, with her total of 21, according to the rules.

She was the Super Falcons' goalkeeper coach at the recently concluded WAFCON in Morocco.

I think this was the 1991 World Cup team.

Here's the story of Super Falcons goalkeeping

It started with Anne Agumanu (Anne Agumanu-Chiejine) from 1991 till 2000. I remember when she kept while pregnant, I remember 2000 Nations Cup final when we beat South Africa in South Africa (the South African fans kept throwing rocks at her and they were rioting in the stands, so the referee had to end the match before time and award it to us). She was the undisputed number 1 for almost 10 years. Anne Agumanu-Chiejine is now the Super Falcons goalkeeper trainer.

Then came Precious Dede. She was our first choice goalkeeper from 2001 till 2014. She was our goalkeeper coach during the Thomas Dennerby era and she folllowed him to India and is now the goalkeeper coach of the Indian junior national side.

Then came Tochukwu Oluehi. She shared the number 1 spot with Alaba Jonathan, Ibubeleye Whyte and Christy Bulus from 2015 till 2019.

Then came Chiamaka Nnadozie. She took over the number 1 spot from Tochukwu Oluehi (who is now our second choice keeper) and has held it since then.

1999 FIFA Women's World Cup in the USA.

Anne Chiejine, Mercy Akide (Anne made Mercy's hair), Nkiru Okosieme (fastest goal), Florence Omagbemi (captain), etc.

Look at Anne's famous bandana.

yes, with pregnancy. she was pregnant at the tournament, not until after the tourney it was disclosed.

the team strategy then was, the entire team rally round to protect her majorly the defence, they would need to work extra hard she doesn't take much heat from the opponents attacking line-up, which worked out well for the team.

the up picture up there where she has a bandana on taking shoot was the tourney.

it is fact, don't be surprised. our SUPER FALCONS has depth and rich iconic history, unlike our male team destroying the history left to build on.

In some part of the country, they will kill the dreams of these ladies and turn them to full house wife instead of allowing them reach their potential and goals.

she didn’t take good care of her skin obviously.
Her skin looks burnt and I think it’s the stuffs she put on her skin but that doesn’t take away the fact that she’s a living legend.

Naptu2, I requested for this some time in this past.

Thanks for responding!

I eagerly look forward to seeing Chiamaka's exploits in England and on the podium at the FIFA Awards.

She deserves it.
