Governor Soludo Restores Abakaliki Street In Anambra by Ofunaofu(op): 10:18am On Jul 30, 2025
In a significant move to promote unity and preserve history, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has restored the name of Abakaliki Street in Awka, which was previously renamed “Club Road” in 2018 under the administration of former Governor Willie Obiano.

According to the governor’s media aide, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, who disclosed this in a statement in Awka on Tuesday, the street holds sentimental value for Pa Peter Uzodimma, who cleared and graded it in 1975 and officially registered it with the authorities. Uzodimma’s efforts symbolize the strong bond between the people of Anambra and Ebonyi states.

The renaming of Abakaliki Street to Club Road had sparked controversy, with many urging Governor Soludo to reverse the decision, citing the importance of unity and reciprocity between Anambra and Ebonyi states.

Governor Soludo’s decision to restore the original name of Abakaliki Street demonstrates his commitment to preserving historical legacies and promoting peaceful coexistence.

The move is widely seen as a gesture of goodwill, acknowledging the long-standing relationship between the two states.

The restoration has been welcomed by many, who view it as a step towards strengthening ties between Anambra and Ebonyi. As Pa Uzodimma aptly put it, “Abakaliki Street is more than a name; it is my contribution to history.” Governor Soludo’s action underscores his dedication to honoring the history and cultural heritage of Anambra State, Opara stated.

One thing I like about this man called Soludo and his counterpart in Abia state, his Excellency, governor Alex Otti, is the made in Nigeria products that they patronise.

Soludo and Alex Otti uses Made in Nigeria cars by Innoson motors.

But tinubu is telling Nigerians to patronise Nigeria made goods but baba is using bullet proof escalade and all the cars in his convoy are Toyota products.

A good leader will lead by example

Somebody renamed a street yesterday, another one still come back today to re-renaming it again. Tomorrow another somebody will probably come back again with another re-re-renaming. This is high level of inconsistency. They shouldn't have changed any name in the first place.

My own is that Mbadiwe Drive must be renamed to MC Oluomo way or Bishop Ajayi Crowther drive.
What is going on in Anambra is their own business.

They are looking after and preserving their own indigenouus heritage and Homeland , if we don't do the same our future generations will blame us terribly

Political Expediency or permutation, Maybe both. Soludo understand the game very well like the palm and backhand and understand t, having featured in the center in the past. He will never be on the same page with Obi, if he sees Obi moving to Side B, from Side A, he will move to the parallel line. He needs the election so he can be in the good book of the Lagos big boys, plus to garner more clout to be able to ,possibly do what Obi might not be able to do. He is the foe from home and I won't blame him, ambition before friendship and family. Dog eat Dog, that's what politics is subtly all about ...

Abakaliki street was never changed deliberately. Obiano a known drunkard commissioned a club in the street, drenched in alcohol during an interview outside the club, he pronounced the street 'club road'. By the time it started generating uproar, it was already late. He tried damage control by naming another street after abakaliki. Those using it as excuse for tribalism are just mischievous. Good one soludo.

In a country where poverty, insecurity and corruption are all on the rise, people are more concerned with name of street?

Who did this to us?

This is a very welcomed development

My brothers from the west side are accusing ig.bos of being tribalists. What do you now call the situation whereby you remove Ig.bo names from your street names and changed them to your tribal names, especially in the heat of tribal jingoism between Yo.rubas and ig.bos? Will that move, in anyway, promote unity and peaceful coexistence between the aforementioned tribes?

Instead of Soludo to rename it Charley Boy abi. Lol 😂.

If Soludo likes he should rename Anambra Peter Obi since he is the best of what has come out of that state in terms of Legacies they want people to believe.

Wetin concern Lagos no concern Anambra.
