A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, Joe Igbokwe, has sounded the alarm over what he describes as the unchecked and growing menace of ethnic bigotry in Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, Igbokwe expressed deep concern, warning that many Nigerians are blind to the looming consequences of ethnic divisions.

He wrote, “Good morning Nigerians! Ethnic bigotry is growing hopelessly like wildfire in Nigeria and our eyes are not open to see the danger. I pray that the veil covering our eyes will be removed so that we can see clearly. Make we de play ooo.“

Reacting to the post, Segun Showunmi, a former spokesperson to Atiku Abubakar during the 2019 presidential election, echoed the fears, describing ethnic bigotry as a ticking time bomb, warning that the failure of leadership to curb the trend could have explosive consequences.

Showunmi, wrote, “I have been screaming against this and it is one major pillar of The Alternative no one who thinks deeply can be happy with the madness being tolerated and those in charge are doing nothing to signal enough is enough! Let us pray they have a containment strategy in case things blow up in all our faces. How we pretend not to see the danger beats me.”

I remember you are a supporter of Nnamdi Kanu. Same man would go on a radio call biafria radio which was very popular in the SE and direct hates towards other Nigerians. He even said Buhari had died and replaced with a man from Sudan. You all believed him.

I watched Showunmis video or inter with Seun of channels. I love how he blamed the South Easterners.

For 8 years, Northerners witnessed brutal bigotry directed at us from the SE. It was pure hatred. For religious reasons, we did not push back.

The same thing they also tried to do with the South westerners, and they met their match and are now screaming all over Twitter LOL.

They wanted the bigotry to be one sided like they are used to and the South westerners said it's aura for aura.

People like Peter Obi started this ethnic bigotry when he told Anambra voters not to vote for the then ACN because according to him, it was a Yoruba party. Peter Obi is also known for issuing ID cards to Hausa people in Anambra state and closing their market in Onitsha which forced most of them to relocate to Asaba where they are now thriving.

Even Peter Obi again in 2023 declared a religious war. That's religious bigotry.

Then if they have no one to direct their bigotry against, they direct it at themselves. Just like the call Ebonyi people Fulani Igbos

I had lived and worked in Enugu & Owerri. Those guys are so welcoming to strangers.

The Yorubas in other states are equally welcoming to strangers but you see these Lagos Yorubas, they are too hostile
