Very worth it, I did my Master with NOUN and I used it to secure a One Year Young Professional Program with ECOWAS Commission, which pay was in USD.

At the commencement of my program, I observed that I was selected ahead of those who study in big name universities on Africa, UK and USA.

Hi Nlanders, I am about to seek admission into NOUN to obtain an M.Sc. in Public Health. I work for my state government and am also an entrepreneur. Due to the nature of my job being demanding. I am thinking of doing my MSc in NOUN. But what is holding me back is, is it internationally recognised. In case there is an opportunity later in future won't i be sidelined because i attended NOUN? Do conventional university recognize them assuming i want further for PhD?
Master is master

ABU Zaria has a distance learning centre at Ogba, that's their liasion office and possibly their exam centre.

My friend just enrolled for one of their Masters program.

Only if you're like 60years plus. But if u are still young , it's either you are lazy, or very busy doing some other things cos l u suppose compete in UI, Unilag etc.

It's like a 17 year old boy doing university part-time program.

Only if u want to do it for doing sake cos your prospective employer will doubt your adaptability to d university rigorous system.

I won't employ NOUN master to lecture in my university
.
Ugh!

Nigerians really derive pleasure in being sufferheads, there's no award for being the "Most Sufferhead".

@ the bolded. LOL. You can start by building your university first instead of this Cho cho cho. 😃

NOUN - National Open University of Nigeria na federal university cheesy grin grin grin
So for your mind I don't know right? Since she's scared of their credibility, then she should try other Federal uni.

It is a good idea but NOUN is not easy as people seems to see I am talking from experience.
..ok why is it not easy....just asking
Re: Acquiring Masters Degree In N.O.U.N Is It Worth It? by Flakky26(f): 12:16am On Aug 01, 2025
You are on your own in the exam hall, and because there is no Area of concentration , chances are high that only 40% OR even less , of what you study for exam will come out in the exam. Only few first class graduates from conventional universities can also graduate with first class from NOUN.

That is the fear I have with NOUN.

Is their certificate accepted abroad?

If I want to use it for licencing with a professional body abroad, will it be accepted?
Re: Acquiring Masters Degree In N.O.U.N Is It Worth It? by NiceLegs(m): 1:30am On Aug 01, 2025
I think Unilag School of Postgraduate Studies does not even accept B.Sc from NOUN for Masters program?

Yes...they don't.

You pay per course.

One course is N20,000.

While in NOUN,

One course is N3000.

You can see NOUN is cheaper.

If u will go to ABU-DL, hold money o.

Please can I have a look at ur Transcript if u don't mind.

This is becos both NTI and NOUN dey fear me

You can blurr or cover ur full names, personal details and grades.

I just want to see the list of courses u did in the program and how the transcript really looks like.

Do they write the University name on it or the Institute.

This is becos a lady said it caused big problems for her when she wanted to move to USA.

It is both local and internationally recognised...

My friend wife finished in NOUN in same public health and working in one of the state government, she's currently doing her MSc in LAUTECH in her finals...

My inlaw who decided to migrate from microbiology to Pulic health, did both her new Bs.c and currently running her MSc in same NOUN...

NOUN is more difficult than even other universities, their exams if you don't read well, you might not pass, despite that it a computer base exams

As someone who has studied both full-time and part-time, I am writing this from experience.

For PG programs, NOUN is BY FAR better than most of these conventional universities like UNILAG and others. Your course materials, course outline, past questions are all available before you start your courses, you have a clear direction of where you're going instead of chasing lecturers up and down. Attendance is also another issue, which NOUN doesn't require. So it's perfectly ideal for employed PG students.

If you want a stress-free masters, choose NOUN or a similar distance learning institution like ABU DLC.

I disagree with you on this because many colleagues left ABU for Uniport. ABU combine their study methods as it is not purely online. You're required to be present in any of their centers to write their exams.
Doesn't uniport require one to physically write exams in a center?

But with ABU masters he cannot further to PHD
I only mentioned ABU DLC alongside NOUN as a similar institution.

If the person in question wants to do a PhD then he or she must specifically select an MSc course.

I am a proud alumnus of NOUN's Public Health Master's program, a member of the first cohorts of the course. My masters degree was accepted for my upcoming doctorate in the UK. It was a worthwhile investment, despite initial reservations.
It always surprises me when I hear people speaking negatively about NOUN. I completed my MSc in Information Technology at NOUN, and I’m currently working with it in a Federal Government agency. I haven’t experienced any discrimination, as long as you can demonstrate what you learned in school. NOUN is a Federal Government institution.

Almost immediately!
Based on experience, it takes 3 months after the release of the results of your final exams. Be rest assured of a smooth and fast study calendar but with strict adherence to standards and discipline when it comes to study and examinations.

Successful graduands are usually given a time frame of 7 to 14 days within which to collect their certificates at their various study centres after which they will be returned to Abuja.
Best of luck!

Master no be master oo,there's level to this thing oo. There's a reason why the riches chose some certain schools to attend despite their wealth, even though they might not make use of that certificates but they dare not go to anyhow schools.
NOUN is a federal government institution. Acquiring masters there makes alot of sense.

NOUN is a federal government institution with recognition both local and internationally.
The institution is more recognized and recommended than most private and public universities in Nigeria.

No they don't. That's the reason why you have many foreign students. The program is sponsored by the world bank.

Yea, the Covid 19 changed a lot in the world. The revolution made what seemed impossible to be possible. You can reach out to me if you like, but I'm just a student sharing my experience there.
