I didn't know that i have hepatitis B until i went for army screening in 2014 and we were more 200 candidates that tested positive for hepatitis B. I started treatment immediately but i had to stop after taking some drugs for more than 3 months due to the high cost of the drugs. |

adams123:The causes of Hepatitis B (HBV) relate to infection with the hepatitis B virus, which targets the liver and can lead to both acute and chronic disease. It is a highly infectious virus, more contagious than HIV. Causes and Ways Hepatitis B is Spread: 1. Unprotected Sex Having sexual contact with an infected person without using a condom. 2. Mother to Child (Vertical Transmission) An infected mother can pass the virus to her baby during childbirth. 3. Sharing Needles or Syringes Common among people who inject drugs or undergo unsafe medical procedures. 4. Blood Transfusion or Organ Transplant (Rare Now) Receiving unscreened blood or organs from an infected donor. 5. Sharing Personal Items Items like razors, toothbrushes, or nail clippers that may have traces of infected blood. 6. Unsafe Medical Practices Use of contaminated needles or instruments in clinics, hospitals, or traditional settings. 7. Tattooing and Piercing If done with unsterilized equipment. ❌ Hepatitis B is NOT spread by: Hugging or kissing Sharing food or drinks Coughing or sneezing Breastfeeding (unless the nipples are cracked/bleeding and mother is highly infectious) Prevention Tips: Get vaccinated (very effective and safe). Use condoms during sex. Avoid sharing needles or sharp objects. Ensure blood is screened before transfusion. Use only sterilized tools for tattoos, piercings, or medical care. |

Mainmanpadi:Tenofovir and lamivudine can help keep down the viral load of hepatitis B, similar to HIV medications, but please do well to consult an hepatologist before starting treatment. The cost is about 30,000 naira, but preventing liver cancer is worth the investment. By the way , the drug is used daily and for life cos hep B has no cure...
