The World Igbo Congress, WIC, has disclosed it has concluded arrangements to launch the Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank in this year’s convention scheduled to hold at the Marriott in Boston, Massachusetts, United States of America.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the WIC, Dr. Festus Okere, who made the disclosure, urged the board, invited Igbo dignitaries, and Igbo community members to finalise their itineraries and secure hotel reservations as soon as possible, due to high demand for attendance.

Okere stated that the need for the Igbo Federal Credit Bank is to re-establish the Igbo apprenticeship scheme, which revived the Igbo economy shortly after the Nigeria-Biafra war that ended in 1970.

Okere said that the 2025 World Igbo Congress convention is expected to draw one of the largest crowds ever, considering the current circumstances in the homeland and abroad.

“This year marks the launch of the Igbo Federal Credit Union Bank, which aims to transform Igbo businesses in the diaspora and contribute to the development of our homeland.

“This initiative presents an opportunity to replicate the Igbo apprenticeship scheme that played a crucial role in revitalising the eastern region’s economy after the civil war. The Federal Credit Union Bank project in the United States is poised to usher in a new era of prosperity,” Okere said.


Notable attendees will include Chief Gaius Chibueze, also known as E-Money; the Chairman of Faith Toyota; a representative from Boston, Massachusetts government; and Chief Valentine Igbobi, the PCNI Chairman and Ochiagha of Ndiigbo in New England 2025.

Okere said that Chief Igbobi has authorised full representation from the People’s Club of Nigeria in the Boston branch for the event, while the Umuada Igbo will also attend in significant numbers.

The World Igbo Congress Convention 2025, organised by the apex Igbo organisation in the diaspora, is scheduled for August 29-31 at the Marriott in Boston, Massachusetts.

According to the WIC Vice Chairman, Hon. Basil Onwukwe, the 2025 convention will be the largest gathering of influential Igbo figures in North America, and only individuals with proven character, including political office holders from Nigeria, will be invited to the convention.


“These individuals will be carefully vetted to ensure that only those committed to protecting the lives and properties of our people are included,” Onwukwe said.

I have been vindicated again and again, dear igbos ,invest your money abroad and in the Credit Union.

I came up with this idea many year ago.

I applaud our Ibo brothers. They are doing well.

There should be a development bank where Igbos in diaspora contribute to for economic and infrastructural development of the South East zone. I don't know why SE governors aren't investing massively in agriculture and agro-allied industries.

If Igbos around the world contribute $10 - $50 every month to the bank, it will be running into millions of dollars in the coming years.

The ethnic slants by the so called sophisticated people has awoken them . They always turn negative Situations to Positive outcomes.. I bet in a few Couple of years the East will be the biggest economic hub and center in this Country .. Congrats to our brothers across the Niger

Talking about development, have you visited the East before now?

All these talk shop gatherings will not get us far without having a well focused purpose and working ruthlessly towards achieving it! The two most topical issues these sort of Igbo diaspora gatherings should discuss and work towards are:

1) Work towards giving the Igbo/Biafra secession agenda and the unconditional release of Mazi Kanu more visibility while using well positioned Igbo with international visibility and clout to lobby foreign gov’ts and world organisations that could assist in giving traction and the eventual realisation of our dream to secede from the killing field and lunatic asylum that is ‘one Nigeria’!;

2) And work towards gathering Igbo diaspora remittances and aku-ruo-uno efforts into a pool of investable funds targeted at impactful world-class projects and initiatives that can galvanise the regions economy to compete globally!

Every other agenda is secondary as realising the aforementioned would positively impact all other issues and problems facing us and our region!

Talking about development, have you visited the East before now?

Many of them still have the 1970 images of the east as one beleaguered igbo land that is struggling to come to terms with the aftermath of the destruction after the uncivil war that ravaged the entire Eastern region.


But I can boldly state today that aside the following areas of ikoyi, Victoria Island, Marina , some parts of Lagos Island and some parts of Apapa, the remaining part of western Nigeria is not better than the east . Enugu is far more beautiful than ikeja, new owerri trounce lekki in beauty and aesthetics, the renewed Aba is way advanced than oshodi in industrial activities, beauty, layout, cleanliness, Onitsha the king or retail far outstrips anything in Lagos in terms of retail, Alaba, arena, balogun, computer village, idumota. Lagos is still living in 1970 glory . Aside the rail network and the light rail project , the east has better infrastructure, there is airport in all Eastern states. Private and state airlines, independent power supply. Solar infrastructure powering most homes .
