Oga streets can be renamed at anytime as obviously is within the power of the authorities. Where there may be an issue is if it has adverse under tones or does not take some sensitivities of the locality into consideration.
When my pops passed away here in alimosho area of Lagos, the local government recognised his contribution to our adgbo and decided to rename the street a major road in the community after him, a street with a yoruba name, for personal family reasons the family declined. Despite that for the first time known the honor was given as the street was shutdown for the day of the burial, the local government and people of the area Yoruba, igbo, hausa etc folks played major roles. Anyway my adgbo is decent, a bulk of people grew up together, from grand parents to the present generation. Oga it is the present group of politicians that act in a way to sow divisions. Majority of folks in that charlie boy bustop area or the ilaje street align with those street names, infact those bustops were named by the residents of the areas. I remember back in the day when passing through that area, Charlie boys house was what we will look at as an attraction looking at his motorcycle hung high up. No right thinking politician (without ulterior motives) will decide to go against that community by renaming such a place. Good to know decent, proper Nigerians especially the Yoruba folks have come out to show displeasure.

Nobody is depending on Lagos for the validation of Yoruba tribe. That's a tribe totally ahead of your tribe already. Remember a Yoruba man named Ajayi crowther taught ibos to read and write.

Note that the Bus Stop name has ALWAYS been officially known as "2nd Pedro Bus Stop" NOT "Charly Boy" which is just an informal or alternate name that was given to it due to Charly Boy's activism and his rented duplex house was nearby and you could literally see the house while driving towards the 3rd Mainland Bridge. Charles Oputa wasn't even a landlord in that part of Gbagada.

It was NOT until 2025 that the Bus Stop was official renamed from 2nd Pedro to Olamide Badoo after Olamide Adedeji who is a Bariga-born guy.

Some uninformed and totally clueless people were fooled into thinking that that Bus Stop was officially approved as Charly Boy when it fact it has ALWAYS been 2nd Pedro Bus Stop until 2025. I must add here that there is "First Pedro Bus Stop" and "Second Pedro Bus Stop" along that route.

There are two bus stops namely First Pedro Bus Stop and Second Pedro Bus Stop. Second Pedro Bus Stop has ALWAYS been the official and ORIGINAL name (NOT Charly Boy) until 2025 when it was renamed officially to "Olamide Badoo Bus Stop." The fuss or loud outcry is based off of the ignorance of those who aren't familiar with Gbagada, and the needless victimhood of some people largely from the East of Nigeria.

Second, Charles Oputa or Charly Boy wasn't even the owner or landlord of the house. It was in that rented Gbagada duplex near the "Second Pedro Bus Stop" (now Olamide Badoo Bus Stop) that Charles and his family lived in.
