2027: Tinubu Should Lead By Example And Make The Ultimate Sacrifice by Bobloco(op): 3:15pm On Aug 02, 2025
As Nigeria prepares for another pivotal general election in 2027, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu faces a moment of truth not just as a politician, but as a statesman. The Nigerian Constitution entitles him to seek a second four-year term, and legally, he has every right to do so. But leadership is not just about legal entitlement; it is about moral responsibility and the power of personal example.

Since assuming office, President Tinubu has repeatedly urged Nigerians to make painful sacrifices for the country’s long-term stability. Subsidies have been removed, inflation has soared, and the common man has been asked to 'tighten his belt' for the greater good. Now, in 2027, the President has a rare opportunity to demonstrate that sacrifice is not only for the governed but also for those who govern.

A true statesman leads by personal example. Tinubu in 2007, when having completed his two terms as governor of Lagos he threw his political weight behind Babatunde Fashola, a relatively unknown but competent technocrat. That decision proved transformative for Lagos. If he could do it then, why not now at the national level?

Rather than seeking reelection, President Tinubu should once again show political foresight by identifying and supporting a credible successor someone with the competence, vision, and courage to build on whatever gains his administration may have achieved. This would not only consolidate his legacy but also elevate him above the political fray as a unifying elder statesman Nigeria sorely needs.

Beyond the political, there is a deeply personal dimension to this decision. Tinubu has spent significant time traveling between French and UK hospitals for medical treatment. These frequent trips underscore the need to prioritize his health something that the burden of a second presidential term would make increasingly difficult. Stepping aside would not only serve the nation; it would allow him to focus on his well-being and longevity.

History will be far kinder to Tinubu if he chooses legacy over longevity. In a time when personal ambition often trumps national interest, the most powerful sacrifice he could make is stepping aside in 2027 for a better Nigeria.

Tinubu is too power-drunk and knows nothing about making personal sacrifices for the common good or the benefit of all.

This isn’t about manipulating anyone or begging for power, it’s about raising the standard of leadership in Nigeria. Asking President Tinubu to live by the same principle he has preached: sacrifice for the nation. If Nigerians are tightening their belts, is it too much to expect the President to lead by example?

Politics isn’t a street brawl, it’s about ideas, values, and legacy. Encouraging a sitting president to pass the baton isn’t weakness; it’s statesmanship. If your idea of leadership is holding on to power at all costs, then you’re part of the problem, not the solution.

No one is begging or threatening Atiku that’s your own paranoia and insecurities talking. The point is simple: Nigeria deserves better. If your response to a call for accountability is mockery, maybe you're not ready for the level of political maturity this country needs to move forward.

So in your mind, asking a sitting president to lead by example means we’re begging for someone from 'our village' to take over? That’s the kind of lów-IQ, tribál thinking that has kept this country crawling while other nations are sprinting.

This is a president asking Nigerians to make sacrifice, what is unusual for him to make this same sacrifice as well for the common good of all

You scream ‘power isn’t handed on a platter,’ but forget Tinubu practically strong-armed his way to Aso Rock through lies, falsehood, fórgéry and propaganda, backdoor deals, and INEC technical glitch. So let’s not act like he descended from another universe with a divine mandate.

Honestly I don't know the fool between Obidients and their leaders, Please what sacrifice did Peter made when he was governor did he sacrifice his second term for someone.

If not, then this write up is senseless, if you are not close to power you won't understand what it means, Tinubu sacrifice 8 years for Osibanjo , go and listen to his Emilokan speech in Ogun state.

As it stands now every presidential aspirant should wrestle it up come 2027.

The best strategist will win.

You talk about presidency as if is village head position.

Buhari tried many times, Obi too should continue trying.
