You have a foundational problem. The course is not useless. You are the one who used the course to render yourself useless at the moment. Many that studied Political Science are gainfully employed. Even some people that studied Medicine or Nursing are jobless. To show that the problem is with you and not with the course, you said you don't even know where your certificate is. But there is still hope because you are still alive and very young. |

Same way my late uncle spent hell for his children to attend Hillcrest School in Jos Plateau while my dad was educating me @ Army Children School Dodan Barracks was feeling worthless. My uncle and his son died pained of a wasted investment. Never compare yourself with anyone. Meanwhile, there is definitely something profitably engaging you can do sir |

That same N10m in treasury bills would have yielded N2.4m annually. N200k monthly for the year. It is not ideal income but bro will never get desperate unless he miss uses money. Just saying, nobody should fight me please. |

This is the 2020s, if you're going to school so that you can get a job, you're wasting your time and money. School is to equip you with the knowledge that you can use in your chosen field to provide value to society - its a shame that many spend 4 years of tertiary education, but do not pick up the simplest knowledge of economics - money is in demand and supply. You have an education that exposes you to formal aspects (and often outdated textbooks - yup books written two years ago are mostly obsolete by today's pace of new findings) and rewards you will a title of B.Sc so you can atleast get interviews and join certain circles - if you networked well. You not equipping yourself to be able to start something however small with the mighty knowledge you ought to have gotten, you are the problem of yourself - and hey, you can always pivot!!!!! Take a cue of what's in demand, and provide the service (learn it first of course). Truth is there are not enough jobs to accomodate even 10% of graduates we churn out nation-wide evey year. Backlogs norva get, amaweh new batch wey no gree wise |

Racoon:With your army kid's background, which position did you hold at ipob/ESN or were you just using mouth to send youths to the bush camps where they were wasted? Another painful truth is that many graduates are not employable and skillful in what they study. Instead of many to concentrate on personal development, many were busy running after Davido, Burna Boy, Ronaldo and Messi. They have laptops that could be used for researches and personal development under rigorous discipline, but unfortunately; they were busy using them to watch movies series by series, playing games, listen to music only and for social media abuse. After graduation, they become incompetent in what they studied. Before graduation from universities or polytechnic, always have plan B that is easy as ABC to venture into to avoid painful experience. There is competition for little jobs available today, you must go extra miles from what your professors taught you in schools and get loaded with relevant ideas if you want your service to be needed. |

This is why I maintained that every young man and woman out there should learn the secret behind igbos apprenticeship systems. U may choose to condemn it,hate it or say all manners of things about it,it is still working any day, anytime and in any season. That 10million school fees should have been used to buy u a shop say 2million four years ago,and the remaining balance used for equipping ur shop and after 10yrs u will thank ur father or whomever must have set u. Financial planning/financial education should be taught to our children as this is the only way they can navigate the Nigerian rough economic terrain and not the usual employment. |

The Government should do more in the aspect of national orientation.. certificates alone won't put food on your table, get skills, learn a craft or arts etc. that can make you an entrepreneur and employer of labour.. Gone are the days when son of a nobody can get jobs easily after graduation, nowadays it's by who you know or who your father is. Look for something you can engage yourself in.. if it's leather works e.g shoes, bags or fashion design. So many opportunities are available that people overlook.. agriculture, fish farming, pig farming, snail farming etc. For that fresh graduate seeing this, get something doing and learn a skill.. you can get BOI or BOA loans to set up your business. If atal you want to export, go to NEPC and seek guidance. The African market (about 54 countries) needs you. Lastly, you must be willing to leave your comfort zone.. we know the country isn't that safe in terms of security but people are still moving around.. the more reason we want PBAT to deal with insecurity squarely. |

If you want your kids to stand some chance of securing a job after graduation from university, they must study a good course with prospect in today's world and it has to be abroad; US, Australia, UK and Canada maybe. Currently relevant courses like: Medicine Nursing Radiography Robotics Mechatronics Engineering Civil Engineering Cyber security Chinese language Artificial Intelligence Physiotherapy Dentistry Accounting with lots of certifications English Education (B.Ed) Mathematics Education (B.Ed) If you study a senseless course in Nigeria, you are finished. If you study a nonsense course abroad, you will still go back to school to study any of the courses I mentioned in the first group above , especially nursing to find a job abroad. That is the reality of life currently so people should stop making mistakes of just going to university to study anyhow courses, the era of doing such is gone. You must study the right course that have global relevance to the whole world today in order for you to stand a chance of securing a job. |

But if we say education/ certificate degree is scam in Nigeria, they will argue that it ain't so. Lots of uneducated folks doing well, doing big big things, progressing financially. While graduates are jobless since leaving school. |

franchasng:I respectfully disagree. Having worked across various sectors, I can confidently say that what employers truly seek is aptitude and the ability to solve problems. I have witnessed situations where problem-solving and critical-thinking assessments were conducted, and the top performers emerged from disciplines often dismissed as “less relevant.” Realistically, no one cares about your beautific course of study, as long as you are able to demonstrate capacity beyond your academic background. Let’s drive the narrative that aspiring graduates should be bullish on honing their skills across all fronts. |
