Mr. Peter Obi demonstrated perhaps the most visible example of his strength of character lacking in most Nigerian politicians during his impeachment saga. The process was long and grueling. Many prominent Anambra elders urged him to “settle” the House members to retain his position. Even President Olusegun Obasanjo invited him and advised him to make peace by appeasing the Assembly. But Obi stood his ground.

He told Obasanjo plainly: “I would rather leave office doing the right thing than remain in office by doing the wrong thing.”

That moment defined his character. It’s one of the reasons Obasanjo continues to respect and support him to this day.

True strength is not in flexing muscles or dominating opponents. Real strength is standing firm on principles—even when your position, your reputation, or your comfort is at stake.
