This made it the second time I renewed my house rent where I live presently.
Last year when it was due, the Landlord called me the same day to remind me that my rent was due. I told him to give me a little time to get the money. After five days he started calling again and was mean that he doesn't do his own like that. Finally paid him in about two weeks from the date the rent expired.

Last month the rent expired for the second time. He called again exactly the same day. I told him to give me some days. I paid him on the second day. I actually borrowed some money to make it up to pay him because I don't have it complete. The next day he came around to give me the receipt. After the receipt he told me to go and pay the bar man at nearby joint for two bottles of beer for him. I didn't know what to tell him because I haven't even paid back the money I borrowed to complete my rent. I saw him at that joint two days after, he asked me about the drink I said later.

Should I buy him the drink?
Does he think I have enough money because I paid the rent immediately?
I asked the other two guys if they have paid they said no. Three of us came in the same period so we renew the same day.

If you buy him the drink, subtract the cost from the next rent.

Stop enabling his bad attitude. If he couldn't give you the grace of a few days or weeks to pay him a new rent, you don't need to buy him any drink.

He's not a bad landlord, pay him his rent and everybody will be happy.

Just buy him the beer, the man doesn't sound like a bad person as someone pointed out.

OP that 2 bottles of beer will put you in his good books, 2 bottles is nothing. You are lucky you have landlord that's willing to sit and drink with you. If I where you I will make him my drink partner, even if you don't drink alcohol take soft while you give him what he takes.

Was there any agreement he reached with his landlord to give him drink if he does not pay immediately? He is under absolutely no obligation to give his landlord even the cork of a bottle, let alone a drink.

Now that house is bigger than you. Get a cheaper house or go to areas with good houses but abit far and cheap. If you can't afford your rent completely for a whole year, my brother change status. Why borrow every year to renew rent. Ur three months salary should take care of your rent for one year.

The money to build a house no be small thing and one tenant will now delay payment after one full year

One thing will happen:

If you buy it him, he will never forget you for buying him beer.
If you refuse to buy it for him, he will never forget you for refusing to buy him beer.

The choice is yours to make

But remember, the choice you make will count for you in future.

If you can't buy him a drink, make sure you always pay his rent before expiration.. It is very important.

Exactly my thoughts.
I know many people who pay their rent one month after expiration and some even stay more than that. The way he was talking that first time even when it wasn't up to two weeks. Now he wants me to buy him drink. Well I may just buy him the drink but he is inconsiderate.

I am also a good tenant.
The first rent was paid within two weeks and this last one was just two days.

No be only Landlords know how to show pepper oooo, some tenants can do same but I am not that type.

Buying him that two bottles might be your saving grace in the future because I see that landlord like someone that might've beholden for little favor or gift....they're usually like that 😀😀😀😀😉

His favorite tenant just because I paid his rent within two days. With this present economy, how many Nigerians pay their rent in just two days. So if I have issues and unable to meet up on time he would throw me out.

In my books he didn't do anything to deserve the drink from me. Another tenant can be his favorite by next year so it means nothing.
I can buy him the drink based on say we are all men but not because he deserve it.

I'm 100% sure the landlord will not even want to Interact with him talk more of asking for beer

If you're planning to stay in the house beyond next year, pay for the beer

If you are planning to quit after the expiration of current rent, don't pay for any beer

Firstly why do you have to wait for your rent to expire and he starts calling you before you do the needful?

Now that you have paid start hustling for the next one , you can pay him a month to when it's going to expire..
