Police Recover Body Of Missing 43-Year-Old Real Estate Mogul In Bayelsa by amoreobansu(op): 2:49pm On Aug 03, 2025
Operatives of the Rapid Response Unit of the Bayelsa State Police Command on Saturday evening recovered the corpse of missing real estate operator, Ekpeboh Richard, after days he was declared missing by his family.

His decomposing body was recovered from the forest between New NDDC Road and Otuokpoti in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state.

Police discovered the deceased was shot in the head in an execution-style and dumped in the bush.

A graduate of the Niger Delta University, Ekpeboh is the Vice Chairman of the Real Estate Consultants Association of Bayelsa and hails from Amassoma in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state. He is married with two kids.

He left home on July 24, 2025, and his wife became worried at around 2 a.m. when he failed to return home.

According to family sources, all calls by the worried wife to his mobile phone were left unanswered until three days later via WhatsApp chat, when he purportedly asked her not to mount unnecessary pressure on him and that he was okay.

Further prompted by the wife that she would reach out to the extended family to ask him why he abandoned the house was met by a promise to send money via POS, where the sum of N15,300 was purportedly sent to a POS agent and not her account.

The family source also revealed that he owes two persons the sums of N9 million and N3 million, respectively, within the association.

However, it was later discovered that those who abducted and killed him were the ones using his phone to chat with his worried wife.

According to some friends and colleagues of the deceased, they later reported the matter to the police and the men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), headed by CSP Bishop Elemide.

The RRS operatives, working on intelligence, youths, and an eyewitness, discovered that two young men in a blue-coloured Honda V-Boot car had dragged the deceased out and took him deep into the forest. “What we heard later were two gunshots. And the two young men scampered to their car and left.

“They also left with the deceased’s car, a Toyota Matrix.”

Police investigators discovered that there was a struggle between the deceased and his killers, with footwear discovered a few metres from where the body was discovered.

“We, the youths, assisted in recovering the body. The place he was dumped was a swamp. His head was blown off by gunshot,” one of the youths revealed.

Our correspondent gathered from sources at the Police Headquarters that the Homicide Department of the State Criminal Investigation Department have taken over the case and is already working on two leads.

“We are looking at the fact that it may be a case of business deals gone wrong with members of his Association of Real Estate Consultants, or that he may be involved in a cybercrime or money laundering deal that went wrong.”
“We will get to the root of the matter and bring the culprits to book,” a police source stated.

A senior police officer, who confirmed the development, told our correspondent that the Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, is fully aware of the development.

This is too bad. Tinubu should sit up in security of this nation. He can't be in Abuja enjoying all protection while other citizens are being killed like chickens

You wont hold your governors responsible as chief security officers of their respective states after collecting security votes. Keep playing the ostrich.

.

Sir, Tinubu can't do everything o. We just need to change. Generally people are wicked in this part of the world and will do literally anything to get money. These days you can't trust anybody as even some family members use themselves for rituals. We just need to change. That's the plain truth. Some months ago, a lady went to visit her boyfriend as usual, but was roasted by the supposed boyfriend. A demonic " gospel singer " also killed his girlfriend for rituals sometimes ago. See...I am tired of this country. This is not how other counties behave. Our own is too much. Kilode embarassed

How do you expect to get to the root of the matter when you're already making assumptions about the victim's involvement in cybercrime or money laundering without any investigation? This isn’t good policing. It’s lazy, biased, and dangerous. Investigate first, speculate never.

I was waiting for this kind of comment. We will never pin this vices on untrained parents who train evil children who are now on rampage in our economy. Everything wrong is pinned on government. I look at my immediate environment all I can say is what the next generation will suffer in years to come in the hand of evil children cannot be compared to what we are seeing today.... Who train people who don't forgive. Evil begets evil. Money and life, are they same. The government we have too are result of bad parenting.

Everybody wants money at all cost.

It is a great tragedy to be killed by unknown persons in such a violent manner. He was said to be a 'business Mogul' in real estate, but he owed N9 Million and N 3 Million. And then became missing. He should not have been killed because of the money he owed. That means whoever he owed has lost out. They will not be paid back, if they are the ones responsible for his death. I don't think this is the case becasue what can N9 million Buy or N3 million Buy in Nigeria today? maybe used vehicle, land somewhere on the outskirts of town, pay school fees, Eats for one year, just regular maintenance. One cannot buy a house, but maybe build a small bungalow outside town with the money. So it is not worth killing anyone for.
Could he have been killed because of Business gone wrong? That is why it is important to know the people you are doing business with. One should not collect any loan from any indicvidual without have a prior knowledge or relationship with the person. Also all debts should be paid promptly. Only a wicked person will borrow money from a friend and never repay again. It is poor judgement to borrow money to eat, the solution to that is to find work. There are no guarantees in real estate business. Only if you have a Access to capital is when real estate will work for you. If you an agent, you will struggle for a long time until you can build equity in real estate projects. It is doubtful if really the fellow was a 'Mogul' as was reported. A mogul does not owe small change!!!

God bless you for this statement.

The problem is most times, we are victims of our seeming sharpness or wisdom.

I almost fell victim to something like this.
When someone told me of a property he wanted to sell, if i was interested in buying.

So my intention was to go alone with the said guy. But I told my wife about it, so when it was time i told her I was leaving for the place.
She asked if I wanted to go alone I said yes, she asked that she goes with me. So we went together.

I started sensing the guy was upto something sinister when we kept going and going with no end in view even along a densely bushy area.
We had to park my car at a point where the terrain was bad for driving.
Then We started trekking.

Oga where the place, guy man said he can't locate the place again. His own family land o.
Something he claimed he needed to sell in order to solve an immediate problem.
All of a suddenly he could not locate the land again.

I guess his plan was thwarted by the fact that I wasn't alone.
The presence of my wife changed everything.

Married people, please let's be open to our spouses. That secret you are hiding is not worth your life in my opinion.

Ignatius Odunukwe the billionaire importer who introduced Sumec Firman into Nigeria was tied and slaughtered like a ram because he went for a property transaction and didn't tell his agents because he didn't want to pay agency fees.

Property of almost 1 Billion, he carried original documents and went for the transaction alone, sidestepping the agents and others involved in the deal.

Na wa oh.
That was a big error on his part.
In trying to be smart he paid a huge price.
Ike I said most times, we become victims just because we think we are playing smart.

It is well.
May God keep keeping us safe.
