Presiding Abia-North Lawmaker, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Monday announced the completion of an additional 2 kilometres of the Umuzomgbo Road in Arochukwu which he constructed, bringing the total stretch completed so far to 5.5KM.

The project is just 3–4KM away from reaching Okpo Ihechiowa, a strategic border community in the area.


In a statement shared on his official platforms, the Chairman Senate Committee on the South East Development Commission, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the necessary resources that have enabled the project’s execution.


“I am pleased to announce the completion of an additional 2KM of the Umuzomgbo Arochukwu Road with double drainage, adding to the earlier 3.5KM, making a total of 5.5KM done so far. With just 3–4KM left to reach Okpo Ihechiowa, I remain fully committed to delivering on this project,” Kalu stated.


“I sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing us with the resources to execute this project. To the people of Abia North Senatorial District, I thank you for your support and encouragement as we continue to serve you with sincerity, humility, and dedication. Keep hope alive,” he added.


In a public endorsement of Kalu’s performance, Barrister Ody Ajike from Akanu, Ohafia, praised the Senator’s unmatched representation and visible impact across communities in Abia North:

“I support OUK because I have seen his representative impact in my community and other communities within the Senatorial Zone. No Abia North Senator has done as much in eight years as Orji Kalu. We had men whose objectives were prestige and those who shared pans. Swing around your location and point out what any past Senator had done and at the same time assess Orji Kalu.”


“I am only interested in Orji Kalu for the benefit of my people. You may be shocked to know that I am not a contractor and do not own a shop. I am just a professional, working smart,” Ajike added.


The latest progress adds to Senator Kalu’s impressive record of over 500 executed rural infrastructure projects and more than 30 legislative bills sponsored since his election to the Senate in 2019.


His dedication to constituency development has earned him multiple national recognitions, including awards from the Senate Press Corps, the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), and the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN). He was also honoured with the “Progressive Leadership Award” by the Pro-Democracy group, Progressive Movement for Better Nigeria.


As the 2027 elections draw nearer, political observers say Senator Kalu’s focus on infrastructure, legislative activity, and community-driven representation continues to solidify his legacy in Abia North and within the national political space.
