You're definitely not alone in that observation. The truth is, your generation wasn’t dull at all. if anything, many of you were just as brilliant, if not more hardworking. But the system then was tougher.

Marking schemes were stricter, calculators were banned, and there was a strong culture of “cramming-and-pour” without much emphasis on practical understanding. Plus, access to quality materials, tutorials, and even internet resources was very limited compared to now.

These days, students have better exposure—past questions are everywhere, there’s YouTube, WhatsApp tutorial groups, and even AI tools that break down topics easily. Also, WAEC and JAMB have reviewed their formats and technology has improved assessment in some ways, though not without its own issues.

So no, your era wasn’t dull at all. If anything, you people paved the way with resilience. Things may look easier now, but that doesn’t erase the solid academic foundation your generation had to build under stricter conditions.
I can't agree less. Thanks

The man said "expos" "which often does not exist". Live exam papers the students see a day or two before the commencement of the exams. He has been wrongly informed. angry

This should be the biggest news in Nigeria now! Why? The implications are far reaching. Hear me out. There are multiple factors that points to massive demographic disaster for Nigeria in the future. If the majority of Nigerian students are failing WAEC it means that majority of Nigerian youths are not educated and intelligent enough to deal with the requirements of tomorrows world if the trend is not stopped. Scary factors to consider:

By 2035 (10yrs) Nigeira's population will be around 287 Million.
By 2025 60% of existing jobs in Nigeria risk disappearing due to AI and automation.
By 2035 Unemployment could be between 30-40%

Using the above it means there will be more people and far fewer jobs than today by 2035. Considering that currently there are not enough jobs in Nigeria it means in 10years the situation will be apocalyptic.

What does this have to do with WAEC results? Everything!!. Consider that the few jobs that will remain will require advanced computer and literacy skills. Consider that we will have a majority of working age people without basic WAEC Credits and therefore unsuitable for the roles, you can now see how a picture of desperation is being painted.

The country is heading for big trouble. Oil revenue will decline in the future as our customers (countries) diversify from fossil fuel to alternative and renewable energy. This means the FG will have less leeway to offer social support due to less available funds and the little available will already be stretched in supporting a massive population.

Nigeria is heading for the rocks! God help us all.

WAEC is not run by a certain group of people, that’s why it hasn’t been compromised yet like other institutions using EyeNeck style to fail innocent students in the SE and predominantly Igbo areas of Lagos.

Nigerian institutions are under attack by a specific group of people with a heinous tribal agenda

The new President in 2027 must as a matter of urgency, purge our institutions of these destructive elements
Loads of bhardadash jargons

Like most exams no matter how tough it is , someone must always perform exceedingly well.
May it be us all .
The ones who do not divide Nigeria tribally and exploit Nigerians too

This year's WASSCE results offer deep lessons for us all.
With only 38.32% of candidates obtaining five credits including English and Mathematics, it’s clear that examination reforms like serialisation and real-time digital scoring have reduced malpractice, but also exposed serious gaps in student preparedness.

This outcome should not discourage us but motivate a re-evaluation of our teaching methods. Emphasis should shift towards critical thinking, independent learning, and consistent assessment. As educators, we must focus more on building students’ confidence in tackling questions on their own — especially in core subjects.

Parents too must play a stronger role at home, while students need to understand that shortcuts no longer work. Hard work, discipline, and honest effort are now the only path to success.

WAEC’s move toward full digitisation by 2026 is another reminder that we must begin preparing our students for a more technology-driven assessment model.

This result is a challenge, but also an opportunity for transformation.

This is disheartening.
Technology, which is supposed to be a blessing has turned our students brain upside down

This generation is not really interested in education, despite the runs and assistance plus the leakages in exams questions in their time, they still withnesses mass failure.

It is appalling that majority of them don't even know how to copy from their sources.

The government has finally succeeded in destroying education in Nigeria while they take their children to study abroad

of what use is your indigenous languages,if it cannot be used globally for business and communication.

English language is Nigeria lingua franca,so it's very important for communication locally and internationally

Oga carry your incompetence to another lane. Even if that exam was written at 7am , the poor performance of those students will still show which automatically translates to lack of preparedness and commitment to educational protocols on the part of the students.
