Obi is saying what he is saying about a one term inorder to trick the North for their support. Mandela was 71 when he was released and 76 when he stood down as president. He wanted time for himself and to be with his family. Remember, he had been deprived of that for 27 years.

His view was different from many liberators in Africa, he did something most did not do, he signed up for 5 year term, and actually stepped down when the 5 years ended, in fact he sort of stepped down around 4 years, by the last year, T Mbeki was already doing most of the work as Deputy President.

Mandela was not really interested in power, he was interest in Liberation, once that part was done, he saw no need to stick around, unlike all the other Liberators in the rest of Africa.

PO needs just a single term and he will retire to his family after doing a great job.

coalition came along I was already analyzing that Obi needed to run for one term to get the buy in of the North.
