What is happening in Lagos state is it because the builder has moved to abuja?
I am sure he did a perfect job before he left because money was not his problem
Flooding is a natural disaster. It happened in Dubai, America and even in any advanced country you can think of. Lagos is a coastal state, it is expected.

Flooding even occurs in part of the North where rainfall is not usually as heavy like in the south... It is an act of nature. So many erosion sites in the East all due to flooding.

I cannot buy a house I will live in Ikorodu, Mowe, and other parts many average Nigerians build homes. Rather, I will buy a flat in well structured area and share a compound with others. Sure, having a house in Ikorodu and other places like that will just be for having a structure sake which will serve other purposes. The rent is nothing, and I may keep the house empty for years till I get real use for it. And if the value shoots up such that I can fling the property to buy another in a better location, I will not hesitate to. Living in unstructured areas is a piece of headache. The citizens are the worst set of humans there.

Who are the innocent citizens? The ones who built houses on the drainage? grin
can you name these "structured areas"?

are "structured areas" immune from flooding?

on which drainage did these people build their houses?

Take everything disadvantage as an advantage

You could use that as an advantage to learn how to swim

That was how I learned how to swim at the age of Ten. By 18 I became professional.

When it's time for everyone for himself and you see a river ahead, OYO na your name if you no fit swim

What are property taxes used for when proper channels are not constructed to protect the properties you tax from flood. Abi you will use boat to collect tax from properties damaged from flood?

Imagine sleeping on the floor, only to wake up in a pool of 'river'. The shock can cause a heart attack 😭😭.

Archimedes Principle is very clear. For every vessel containing fluid, if you add weight into it, fluid of the same weight or volume will have to give way.

This is not the first time in history that Lagos have witnessed such amounts of rainfall. As long as the city has good drainage to empty into the lagoons, there ought not to be this magnitude of flood. It rained for 48 hours in many locations in the south but there are no reports of such flooding.

The idea of filling up the Atlantic to build a city still amuses me. There was always going to be repercussions. All over the world, congestion of cities is a problem solved by vertical expansion. Trying to create land where there is none, thereby disrespecting water, is a recipe for disaster

Ignorant couple with hatred are great disease, have you been to those areas and know whether they can survive a heavy rainfall of more than 8 hours continuously.

Nigeria does not have government, that's why these things happen. Civil servants don't do their work of oversight and town planning.

I must apologize, but it’s honestly infuriating to feel sympathy for victims in these situations, especially when they are Indigenous residents who ignored simple advice.

Years ago, I visited a community in Nasarawa State and witnessed locals recklessly constructing homes on waterways. When I attempted to discuss this concern with them, their responses were disheartening; many even questioned whether I belonged to their community! It’s maddening to realize that the very Toto community I once warned against building on waterways—and urged to seek higher ground—has now been devastated by flooding.

Currently, I'm in a riverine community in the South-South, still shouting warnings about the dangers of building on these hazardous waterways, yet I face the same frustrating resistance.

It seems that those who lack exposure to these issues can be incredibly difficult to engage.

Nonetheless, I will continue to raise my voice, hoping that those who are willing to listen can avoid trouble.

I have yet to see anyone who has fought against nature emerge victorious.

It's not a scam, what it simply means it that, when you block the water channel, it will come and dwell with you instead of running away.
