It is very sad that the government both at the local, state and Federal level has chosen to do little or nothing to checkmate these herdsmen menace across the country. Very sad!

Those herdsmen can't just come and start killing people without grievances. According to the LG chairman, he said it's a reprisal attack for the loss of their cows presumed to be rustle by locals or indigenes of the affected communities.
My condolences to your colleague and those who lost loved ones but some questions needs answering.

Benue government should consult me for a way out of the herdsmen attacks in their State. I can assure you with all alacrity that there will be peace in with regards to the attack. Whenever and wherever civil war breaks out, you will found out that there are a lot of intelligent civilian generals that are not in the army.

Yes, there was the issue of cattles being caught vandalizing farms and crops, which he shared with me last month. The locals slaughterd the cows and some were eaten.

Thier farms were vandalized by the cows, but that did not give them the rights ro kill the cows. They should have handed those cows over to the authorities and demanded for compensation from the herders.

Attacking and killing innocent people on the other hand, because your cattle was rustled is not the way to go either. Those involved should be identified and made to pay compensation also to the herders.

The absence of communication and dialogue has formed an unending vicious circle.

This is where the government at every level should step in with the stick and carrot approach in putting an end to this vicious circle.

Law and order is what is lacking in those communities.

who's in charge of d police structures and security apparatus in a state?.....

I think Herdsmen are more powerful than both Nigerian police and army combined.
They are quick in going after civilians and are efficient in arresting IPOB or ESN or in branding people. They can enter ESN hideout even in forest but when it get to Herdsmen, they become silent and weak.
They can arrest or prosecute them. This issue in Benue can’t stop unless we defend ourself.
We have to rise to face this challenge

Mehn! Thanks for this well analytical piece. With this I have no doubt both parties are at fault and the greater blame goes to the herders for exchanging human lives for their stubborn cows. Thanks for the clarification

They know that the bandits are former apc footsoildiers they invited to nigeria that's why they are finding it difficult to totally eliminate them a neutral party would have definitely put an end to this madness a long time ago.
