He should be fired for this indicting statement

Whose responsibility is it to provide clean potable and affordable water

Sebi he goes to UK. How many times has he seen boreholes in London

I've always insisted that all the infrastructure building in Lagos is a waste if the state can't provide tap running water for the residents with all the humongous resources at its disposal. All the so-called building of Lagos is just window dressing

Lagos used to have pipe borne water before 1999 even under Marwa!!

Plans are just that plans . If you cannot execute the plans , then shut up when others are executing theirs . The best you can do is encourage them to treat the water ( which majority of them do already) .

A responsible government will quickly do something to ensure they get good water . This is why I keep saying that Tinubu is truncating the potentials of lagos as he is doing in Nigeria . Lagos money spent to gain political powers . It is well with Lagosians and Nigerians

Do you have a single sewage drainage system connected to every house, or are they making use of soakaway pits? If you don't have a single sewage drainage system in Lekki and the government can't provide it, then everything you are saying is nonsense.

I use to think that leki and Ikeja is heaven in Lagos, until I start going there, I realize that villages at Lagos breaths better air than those that lived in leki. Unpack refuse every where, no tap water, electricity non. Now government that supposed to provide their needs has finished them. Leki today is not the leki Nigeria knows then.

Depends how deep the borehole is.
Shallow (10m deep) has a chance of pollution and germs.
Deeper, (30m) not so likely.

There’s nothing govt can do in an overbuilt and congested swamps than to drive people away from there, which you would still be against. They’re not supposed to be there in the first place. Just because there are open available swamp does not mean you have to build on them, swamps are not meant for home constructions, they’re meant to be bare land.

With just one road in&out, they’ve turned that Lekki/Ajah axis to a disaster waiting to happen.
Re: Everyone Digging Borehole In Lekki Is Probably Drinking 'waste' Water - LASG by wowcatty:
Tinubu built Lagos and that’s why you abandoned your own for Lagos.
There’s nothing govt can do, living in swamps is non sustainable, Lagos can not hold that many people. Houses will need to be demolished. The people are the problem, if govt drives them away, you will say they’re mean, people will have to leave on their own.

And tinubu built Lagos o. 😂 😂. Lagos is fine to live in. Many opportunities to make it in life, but the government should address the concerns of the people

Treat water & make available portable pipe borne water to people’s houses/offices. That is what a responsible government should do. Lekki residents & by extension Lagos residents have no business providing a basic amenity like water to themselves because its not safe
I wondered why no single state in Nigeria have this.

In early 2000s down to 2010 or so, there used to pipe water running into many homes or a point.

Don't know what happened to Nigeria Water Cooperation.

You’re not lying—there’s a lot to be angry about. From Lekki to Maitama, even our so-called "prime" areas still struggle with the basics: no water, no stable light, terrible roads, zero planning. We’ve normalised hardship to the point where fixing basic things feels like a luxury. It’s exhausting.

But before we conclude that “something is wrong with Nigerians,” we need to pause.

Most Nigerians are not lazy, stupid, or unaware. In fact, they’re some of the most hardworking, creative, and resilient people on the planet. The problem isn’t the people—it’s the system that has consistently failed them.

Imagine a country where people dig their own boreholes, install their own solar, build private security, and still have to bribe someone for basic documents. That’s not because they're “ghetto” by nature—it’s because the structure forces individuals to carry the burden of government.

Look at Nigerians abroad: same black skin, different system—yet they thrive. So it’s not about “Black people” or even “Africa” leaving Nigeria behind. It’s about leadership, accountability, and planning. Other African countries like Rwanda, Botswana, and Namibia are making progress because systems are being allowed to work—even if imperfectly.

So yes, the situation is frustrating. But blaming the people is like blaming passengers for a plane crash caused by the pilot.

What we need is radical reform, honest leadership, and citizens who refuse to give up. Until then, we’ll keep seeing potential wasted and ghettos wearing designer roofs.
SocialJustice:
Even the richest part of Nigeria is still a ghetto. No single public utility. Something is wrong with Nigerians. Black people elsewhere do not live this shabbily. Africa is leaving Nigeria behind.

True, a borehole is better than fetching from the stream — but not all boreholes are created equal.

A shallow borehole, around 10 metres deep, might be cheaper and easier to dig, but it’s also more vulnerable to pollution. Especially in densely populated areas or places with poor sanitation systems, that water can easily get contaminated by soakaways, surface runoff, or even nearby waste dumps. That’s how cholera and typhoid sneak into people’s lives without warning.

A deeper borehole — say, 30 metres or more — taps into a more protected aquifer. It costs more to drill, but it’s usually cleaner, safer, and more reliable long-term. But here’s the kicker: many households can’t afford to go that deep, especially when the cost can run into hundreds of thousands or even millions depending on the soil type.

And yet — water is a basic need.

So imagine a country where even access to clean water is a DIY project, and one that still carries risk depending on how deep your pocket is.

That’s why the conversation has to go beyond "drill a borehole and move on." We need stronger public infrastructure and urban planning. Because safe water shouldn't be a privilege — it should be a right.

My parents moved abroad a few years ago and are permanent legal residents on a pathway to citizenship. If you see as dem both fresh now. You will start wondering if there is a powerful demonic principality or evil primordial entity hovering over Nigeria.
Re: Everyone Digging Borehole In Lekki Is Probably Drinking 'waste' Water - LASG by wowcatty: 12:56pm On Aug 06, 2025
You need to wake up, the only solution the govt have for the swamp is to make people leave which you people will kick against. The govt can’t shut up, cos yo will still complain about the govt not saying anything. Plans come before execution and before people can call the area home. If you build on a land in areas that has no govt basic infrastructure, it means you’re doing off grid living. Swamps are for ecosystems and growing rice, not for human living.

Why are you always so angry over nothing? There are other wealthy areas in Lagos state apart from Lekki. Lekki is located in a swampy area.
