Now That Buhari Is Gone, Can We Honestly Say Tinubu Is Doing Better? by success1smyn(op): 2:55pm On Jul 17, 2025
With the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigerians have begun to reflect on his time in office. While he was heavily criticized for economic stagnation, insecurity, and being "too slow," some now say things were more stable under him than now.

President Tinubu came in with big promises — fuel subsidy gone, “renewed hope,” unification of exchange rates. But Nigerians are now battling ₦1,600/$1, soaring prices, and insecurity still persists in many regions.

🔹 Was Buhari actually better than we gave him credit for?
🔹 Is Tinubu fixing the mess or making it worse?
🔹 In 2 years, who will Nigerians say had the better government?

Let’s have an honest, mature conversation devoid of emotional sentiments. No insults, please. Just facts and real experiences.

It's citizens that would tell who's better after two years not the government itself with their concocted data.
The question is, Are you as a citizen better off today? Absolutely no, except if you are occupying a political post or a political jobber.
Ask 10 people this particular question, you will get 8 Nos out of the 10.
Now check this, How can you buy a bag of Cement at 3500k just in May 2023 and now buys it at 9500k and your answer will be a Yes. No matter what reason they try to give, it should be at least 5000k
I rest my case

My own:

Buhari’s administration laid the foundation for most of the hardship we’re facing today. Between 2015 and 2023, Nigeria’s debt profile grew from around ₦12 trillion to over ₦77 trillion. Inflation skyrocketed, the naira collapsed, and insecurity worsened. Now Tinubu is left to clear the economic wreckage — subsidy removal, forex liberalization, and heavy borrowing all stem from Buhari’s unresolved policies. You may not like Tinubu, but don’t forget who created this mess in the first place. Let's debate with facts.

Buhari laid the foundation of the problem... but then
1. Tinubu is not solving d problem- only exposing the wounds
2. Tinubu was the one who brought Buhari in 2014 despite knowing his antecedents

Hmm, okay but I still believe Tinubu is trying his best honestly, Buhari did not do anything.

First things first, has tinubu dealt with d issue of security - from fulani terrorists to bokoharam to lakurawa to general kidnappers? Nobody begged him to run ó.. if u cant deliver, u should use d door! The security & wellbeing of lives are at stake here

I understand your frustration, and you're not wrong to demand results. But let’s be fair—things aren't perfect yet, but we’re not where we used to be either. The same North-East that was a no-go area now holds events openly. Banditry and kidnappings haven’t disappeared, but the tempo has reduced in many areas compared to 2–3 years ago.

Let’s not forget this mess didn’t start last year. Real change, especially in security, takes time and consistency. We can’t judge Tinubu’s efforts like someone who’s had 8 years already.

But I’m open to hearing what specific actions you think he should have taken by now.

Tinubu have never done well, neither will he do anything worthwhile because he has long continued the abysmal standard of governance that Buhari set for him. Infact Buhari is 10 times better than Tinubu

You are wrong bro. You will 12 NOs out of the 10. Why? 2 additional people outside the 10 will join to answer NO.

You have your choice to make. Actually Tinubu contested on the same party as Buhari so he will say that for Buhari's support. That normal in politics.

I have answered you, what else do you want to hear?

If my answer is not what you want to hear the. I can't help you. That's my answer. See guy you seem not to understand politics and you like to attach emotions to politics - don't do that. Tinubu saying he will continue from where Buhari stopped is politics and every politician will say that to get their predecessors support if they are in the same political party.

Thanks

You don't know that
It may even be worse

I think there is a tendency to personalize things and make it about the president

The reality is that Nigeria is a weak or even failing state and there are strong external forces committed to that cause
Recently we heard of terrorists being in possession of Starlink communication systems
A lot of money is being put into destabilising Nigeria

Nigeria does not have the same kind of natural unity that maybe a homogeneous country like China has
In such a country no one is concerned with the divisive issues like religion and tribe

If you consider what is happening in Sudan Libya and Syria is seems likely that Nigeria may not survive

It is difficult to understand unless you understand the bigger struggle taking place in the world

Whe you see all these things like Nigeria must go in Ghana sudden war with Thailand and Burma you must understand that it is very deep
And it is happening at a time when we are broke

Not just Nigeria which African country is strong right now?
We don't make arms yet these people don't run out of arms

I think they understand what is going on in Mali and Burkina Faso

It is going to be difficult to make any progress with the wasteful nature of the 36 state structure

We plan our budget using a projection of oil price every year

Have we not got it yet?
Do we believe oil price just happens

High oil prices would mean a strong Russia

The strategy to keep oil prices down started in 1983 and has been very successful

Ordinarily I would say we are not ready for democracy in Nigeria

I have come to the conclusion that if we don't seriously restructure we will break up

Stop being a hypocrite and stop deceiving yourself trying to pretend as if you are balanced in your submission.

Tell us what happened to the Port Harcourt refinery they were deceiving themselves that it was working?

Tinubu is trying his best with lies and building an economy that is not a productive economy and you are here praising him.

Lol. I never claimed to be balanced, my brother. Everyone’s free to share their view — including you. Just say yours and keep it moving.

But for someone who calls himself a smart citizen, your posts haven’t exactly reflected that level of smartness. Feels more like you're echoing a certain crowd than thinking independently.

Oh sorry!

I never knew you were among the suffering and pretending crowd who woke up everyday to deceive themselves believing on what doesn't really exist.

If you are smart enough which I doubt, you would have asked yourself this simple question;

ALL THESE LIES AND FALSE INFORMATION MOST OF YOU ARE SUPPORTING, TO WHAT END?

We are still keeping a date with you on the day that refinery in Port Harcourt that your Lord and Savior spent millions of dollars will work?

Lies always have an expiring date even the one you are saying now will also expire and you will also hide your face in shame.
