Nigerian football has reason to celebrate as Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been nominated for the prestigious Ballon d’Or Yashin Trophy, an award recognizing the best goalkeeper in the world.

Super Falcons' Chiamaka Nnadozie Nominated for Ballon d'Or Yashin Trophy

The nomination confirms her status as one of the elite goalkeepers on the planet, following a series of stellar performances for both her club and country.

Nnadozie, who has played for French club Paris FC, has been a standout performer, earning widespread acclaim for her shot-stopping abilities and crucial saves.

This landmark nomination follows a successful season that culminated in her recent transfer to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Her nomination is a testament to her exceptional season, where she played a pivotal role in her club’s domestic and European campaigns.

She joins a distinguished list of nominees, including Ann-Katrin Berger, Cata Coll, Hannah Hampton, and Daphne van Domselaar.

The 25-year-old’s nomination is a landmark achievement for Nigerian and African football, highlighting the quality of talent emerging from the continent.

She has consistently been a key figure for the Super Falcons, commanding the goal with confidence and skill.

The winner of the Yashin Trophy, named in honor of the legendary Soviet goalkeeper Lev Yashin, will be announced at the Ballon d’Or ceremony later this year.

This is why hard work, consistency and loyalty to your roots pay off.

A lot of male players need to learn from these ladies, especially those with dual citizenship.

Typical example is Tammy Abraham... Look at him, and look at his mates like Ademola Lookman and Ashleigh Plumptre.

...Also, where is Jordan Ibe these days?!!
Re: Super Falcons' Chiamaka Nnadozie Nominated For Ballon D'or Yashin Trophy by rinzaugustine:
When Chiamaka started her football career her father was fiercely against that to the point of chasing her away from the house, disowning her and telling her she won’t amount to nothing but she was undeterred. Her father’s reason was that she stands a better chance at life with a university education because all his brothers chiamaka’s uncles were very talented footballers everyone knows in owerri but they never succeeded in professional football so the man felt football was not their luck and female football for that matter but look at today chiamaka have brought National limelight and stardom to that family to the point that even foreign journalists visit their house to interview same man about chiamaka not to talk of how people hail him now anywhere he goes…..In this life nobody can change destiny . Everything God destined will surely happen no matter how crazy it looks at the beginning . Ironically their family name Nnadozie translates to “ Father (God) restore “ and now God is using Chiamaka to restore the glory of that family

Brother, we are actually on the same page.

Those guys you mentioned, especially Saka, are not average players na... They practically and permanently own the positions they play in their clubs.

National team call up and permanent caps were never in doubt for them.

Can the same be said for the names I mentioned earlier?!!

When Tammy and Ibe rejected Super Eagles, I just knew they were not sensible at all! grin

Thank God Lookman and Aina didn't behave like that.

Zion Suzuki in Japan is a first team starter, so understandably had to reject Super Eagles call.

She doesn't deserve the nomination. She will not even come 10th position.

Someone who didn't perform well at WAFCON.

I condemn this nomination. I condemn it, I condemn it

If everything goes well, I see her winning it, because of the combination of his club and national team effort

Good progress. Sleeping beside your trophies isn't just about showing off wins — it’s a reminder of the battles fought, the courage it took, and the journey behind each one. Every trophy is more than an object; it’s proof that hard work, sacrifice, and persistence pay off

Gabby Agbonlahor was the one that really surprised me back then. He rejected SE, to play only 3 games for England and never scored. Not great for a forward/striker.
Scotland would have been a better choice if not playing for 9ja. He was eligible.

Gabriel was not serious about his career tbh...!

Too much ego and lack of commitment to improvement really cost him a lot.

He was on track to becoming an elite striker for England... Snubbing Nigeria was also quite dumb of him.

These players are never well advised by those closest to them. Some parents who left Naija carry some animosity towards the country and pass off the influence to their kids.

Only smart kids insist on returning to their roots.

Lol. Knowing how to improve oneself is part of the talent elite sportspeople have. I guess he reached the level his talent and circumstances allowed him.

Remember he was brought up by a single father after his parents divorced. It wouldn't have been easy growing up.

Nah... He was highly undisciplined.

At a point, he was spending more time in the clubs than in training, turning up hungover and late for training sessions.

His early success got into his head.

Chiamaka Nnadozie has been quite exceptional in the past few years, and her Ballon d'Or nomination doesn't come as a surprise to me. She is among the best female goalkeepers in the world. I believe she has a very good chance of winning this award, it will be a well-deserved honour to crown all her hard work and dedication she has put in to be at the top. This is another pointer to the exponential growth of women's soccer in Africa. Go girl, the whole of Africa is rooting for you. I wish her all the very best.

Berger excels in high-volume shot-stopping, showing strong performance in the NWSL with a high save percentage and consistent clean sheet production. Her advanced metrics also reflect a significant impact in preventing goals above expected (especially in 2024) .

Nnadozie offers exceptional consistency in her league – a clean sheet in over half of her games, with a low goals-conceded-per-90 and elite-level save percentage within the last year—placing her in the 90th percentile of goalkeepers worldwide .

While Berger faced more shots overall and had to maintain performance under heavy pressure, Nnadozie’s stats reflect dominance in both domestic play and international competition.
Kurugu92:
Omo that girl called Berger na witch, more work to be done by ndozie these isn't your year maybe next.
Save %, CS%, and GAA: Berger leads in shot volume and overall influence in a tough NWSL environment; Nnadozie shines with outstanding efficiency and clean sheet rate in her domestic league and continental tournaments.
