Former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending a long-standing political association with the party, ABN TV reports.

In a resignation letter dated August 5, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of Ndi Elu Ward, Nkporo, Ohafia LGA, the immediate past Deputy Governor stated that his decision to quit the party was due to personal reasons. He noted that although the decision was difficult, it was the best course of action for him at this time.

“I am most grateful for the opportunities the Party availed me to serve at various levels and appreciate the experience and knowledge gained during my membership of the Party,” the letter read in part.

Rt. Hon. Oko Chukwu, who served as Abia’s Deputy Governor from May 2015 to May 2023, expressed appreciation to the PDP for its support over the years and wished the party well in its future endeavours.

His resignation letter was acknowledged and received by the ward leadership on August 7, 2025.

The development marks a significant shift in Abia State’s political landscape, as Oko Chukwu was a prominent figure in the PDP for many years, holding various positions before his two-term tenure as Deputy Governor

No matter how people love PDP they have no opinion but to resign because it has been killed by greed. Selling it to the ruling party because of greed. It's better to join the ruling party or go for a better opposition. Not one leg in and one leg out

He is going to Labour Party to contest for Senate or House of Representatives. The plan is likely Gov. Otti’s plot.

Otti called he and his PDP goons feeding bottle politicians and now frolicking with them.
This one is courting Otti's favour to win Abia North senate and frankly, he's one of those stupid politician out there. 3 term assembly member, speaker and DGov for 8 years, still you can't comport for just 4 years out of power.
Otti will deal this one a heavy blow so catastrophic that he'll regret leaving PDP.

It's a leisure for the short Aro god to use and crush political orphans, especially those ones from PDP by threatening to open their corruption deals.

Why did Obi not decamp from PDP when the PDP was in power?

The former deputy governoer is aware that PDP has given him all they can give to him,no more ticket from PDP,hence he decided to decamp to another party.This same man was suspended from PDP recently for anti party activities, so his decamping was not a surprise.

A powerful delegation from Alex Otti's end visited him at his country home few days ago and it was widely televised. So his next destination is obvious.
