FG Dismisses 15 Nigerian Correctional Service Officers Over Gross Misconduct by alphonsojaybaz(op): 8:01am On Aug 08, 2025
In a sweeping disciplinary move, the Federal Government has dismissed 15 personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) for what has been described as serious misconduct and flagrant violation of service regulations.

The development was confirmed in a statement released in Abuja by the NCoS spokesperson, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC) Abubakar Umar, on Thursday. He noted that the action is part of a broader effort to uphold discipline and professional integrity within Nigeria’s correctional system. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

231 Disciplinary Cases Reviewed

According to DCC Umar, the decision to dismiss the 15 officers followed a thorough review of 231 disciplinary cases submitted to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB). These cases were presented through the Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee (BDGPC).

“A total of 15 personnel were dismissed from the service for serious misconduct and violation of service regulations,” Umar stated.

More Than Dismissals – Other Disciplinary Actions

Beyond dismissals, the board also took a number of other disciplinary actions:

59 officers had their ranks reduced after being found guilty of violating professional standards.

42 personnel received written warnings as corrective measures.

8 officers were compulsorily retired, and

1 officer had their rank reversed, with a directive to refund all earnings made while holding the improper rank.

Some Cleared, Others Still Under Investigation

In a show of balance and due process, DCC Umar revealed that 16 officers were exonerated after investigations proved them innocent of all allegations. However, 7 others remain on suspension as investigations into their alleged misconduct continue.

One officer’s case was deemed severe enough to be forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for prosecution, marking a serious escalation in accountability measures.
Reinforcing Ethics and Accountability in Public Service

The spokesman emphasized that the disciplinary measures are a reflection of the zero-tolerance policy on corruption and misconduct championed by the Ministry of Interior under Dr. Olubunmi Tunde-Ojo, who currently chairs the CDCFIB.

“The Board reiterates its commitment to maintaining high ethical and professional standards across all cadres,” Umar noted.

This crackdown aligns with ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to reform Nigeria’s correctional system, ensuring it operates within globally accepted best practices.
Why This Matters

The Nigerian Correctional Service has often faced criticism over poor conduct by personnel, including issues relating to corruption, abuse of inmates, and lax enforcement of rules. This move signals a more aggressive approach toward accountability and transparency within the institution.

What do the workers tell their families now especially if they're the bread winner. Corruption has eaten too deep into the sytems.

Every corner of Nigeria is full of corrupt practices.
That's why it's very difficult to rid this country of corruption.
Give a street boy an off colour uniform to wear to man the estate gate and watch him turn himself to an army captain, a lawyer, an FBI agent and a tax collector at the same time.
It's very pathetic!!

It's from this comment that I discovered today that warden is very different from warder.

Interesting learning.

they will blame it on enemies in the office. trust nigerians to always find someone to blame except themselves. you will hear stories like; there is this oga that hates me so much and promiseed to deal me with me just for no reasons bla bla...

if a lady is involved, expect her to claim that she was dismissed because her boss was asking her out and she refused.

The corruption in prisons is just too much, how can kidnappers be tracked to prisons?inmates already locked up will be released to go on operations and return to prison with loot to share allegedly?this country is bone marrow infested with corruption,Abi is it the special treatment like the one given to bobrisky and high profile criminals?abi is it the one that criminals sentenced are released after some time when they bribe some wardens ALLEGEDLY??can this country get better cos it seems the black man is naturally cursed and the brain isn’t working well.

How can police steal glasses from sowore who came to protest on their behalf?same police broke his hands in prison knowing fully well that this man is fighting to help them but yet somehow their brains cannot do what is right.. how can citizens in abject poverty who blame politicians for rigging election and keeping them in pains still fight for such politicians and still vote and support them if given 500 naira on Election Day or a plate of rice?how can citizens who place curses daily on politicians for their wickedness still steal from their fellow poor citizens and refuse to return monies mistakenly sent into their accounts or phones they find while the owner calls begging to get his phone back, how can citizens who complain bitterly ignore the politicians but kidnap and kill their fellow poor citizens?

These are the realities in Nigeria because the Nigerian is cursed and it takes the grace of God to see a good Nigerian.

Nigerians can never be satisfied. Instead of you people to commend the authorities for investigating and punish those that erred. You are here still complaining. If you people are the ones doing the job, most of you will do worse than these dismissed or deranged people.

Aside prison, all the terrible corrupt incidents happening outside of Prison walls and service, no be Una dey do am?

Thanks to Minister of Interior for attempting a clean up of the service.

It's only the politicians that are corrupt according to them. Nigerians are can't handle even little privileges like being a pump attendant during fuel scarcity or a POS operator during cash scarcity. They'd become gods.
With the kind of power the president wields and still manages to demand public worship from citizens, I'll choose him anytime over 98% of Nigerians anytime.

Dey mumu yourself, so you feel everybody in prison are guilty of their crime?

Some were picked on the street and used to replace influential people and some have been on trial for just little offence that doesn't warrant being imprisoned..

Just pray that Nigeria doesn't happen to you
