blackbriar:If I may ask, can an applicant from Nigeria include his/her spouse in initial work visa application? Or One has to land in Japan and work for some time before he/she can file dependant visa for his/her spouse? |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 4:56pm On Aug 05, 2025 |
babakb:Yes, that is how it is done. You get the work visa, get to Japan and work for at least six months, then file for a dependent visa for your spouse. But please check that visa category, I want to believe it mandates a certain level of Japanese proficiency before one can be issued the work visa. Even then, those sectors require a higher level of Japanese to get a job in them. Here, the issue is not a job (good, okay and just there), but the language. At this point in the nation's economy, it is not the skin colour, but the language proficiency. Have the skills? Speak the language? You get the job. It is why I advise language schools - run it for a year, then apply to companies or specialised colleges (should max of four years and max of three years if the student is smart and assidious enough). |

blackbriar:I chose International Students Hostel. Today i received settlement permission email from my school and i have been allocated single room (at the International Students Hostel). But when i clicked the website, the money is huge o. Abeg, is this doable ? i thought School hostels are way cheaper. Below is part of the email: 3) Cancellation( In case you need to cancel your stay in the dormitory, please contact International Student ........ by 5:00 PM on .....day, August (Japan time), with the reason of the cancellation. If you stay in an apartment, please notify us its postal address. Requests for reallocation of the dormitory or room will not be accepted.

Rictech:What are the other hostel options besides international house? The International house just means everyone in that building will be international students. While the other school hostel will be a mix of locals and international students. Married students prefer international houses mostly. While the rent of 37,000 yen is not bad. The other fees make it expensive. I am sure that you can get the other school hostel rooms for less than 30,000 yen monthly inclusive of internet, electricity and utilities. Kindly check the brochure again for cheaper hostel options. My humble 2 cents. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 5:46am On Aug 08, 2025 |
Rictech:Ask them that you would want where Japanese students reside. International Houses are usually expensive. Get where Japanese students live. Also, is the school in Tokyo? What exactly are you hiding? ![]() |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Rictech: 9:53am On Aug 08, 2025 |
blackbriar:Thank you, these are the summary of other options. So maybe because my bank statement exceeded the PoF requirement, they now allocated a room to me at Settle International. I will email the office even though their email to me stated Requests for reallocation of the dormitory or room will not be accepted.

Rictech:** Dormitory 3 is good. but shating facilties wiht the locals might be a huge cultural change and a lot to take in. Cheap and new but small. ***. Settle International is not bad at all for 47,500 yen per month. It is super new and kinda spacious. Stay with this one. Upon physical landing, research about UR Housing. they are cheaper govt. public housing My humble 2 cents. |

| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 5:05pm On Aug 08, 2025 |
Rictech:In what region is the school located? I am not familiar with rent prices outside the region I studied. Otherwise, I would say that the fee is too high. I lived with Japanese o. Me no care about anything. All inclusive for approximately $180 per month! ![]() |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 11:50pm On Aug 08, 2025 |
Gerrard59:For his first 6 months, he can live there. He can chose to move to the Japnese hostels later on. Or move in to the nearest UR or village house apartments. surely there wlll be cheaper options. For now, he will be JJC and need stablility. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 4:33am On Aug 09, 2025 |
blackbriar:If he can, he should live there till he completes his MSc. As you will know, moving apartments here is very expensive. Too too expensive. Living with Japanese in the same hostel saves costs tremendously. Move once for work purposes. |

blackbriar:Please are Nigerians eligible for the ssw, I've been making findings and the results I get is that Nigeria doesn't have Japanese test centers, please if you care to expatiate. |

Gerrard59:Fukuoka |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 1:41pm On Aug 09, 2025 |
Rictech:The city itself or part of the prefecture? If it's outside the city, I consider it too expensive in my opinion. Or maybe rents have soared, because if so, a similar property would cost 100K yen in the Tokyo area. |

Good day everyone, i want to apply for master degree program , bsc degree(graduated 6 years ago), frontend developer,6000$ savings, please can someone put me through, do i need more money? |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 3:33pm On Aug 10, 2025 |
ayswagga5:Yes, you need more money as that is roughly the tuition fees for a year at a national university, and the remainder cannot provide your living expenses in Tokyo for that one year. Every guidance and information that you need are on this thread and Google. Good luck! |

Maxxim:Please try to contact the Japanese Embassy in Abuja either by mail or phone call (or both) for further clarification. I couldn't find a clear answer to your question. Sorry about that. My Humble 2 cents. |

ayswagga5:Don't let that stop you. Look for schools and Professors that carry out your research of interest. Write an introductory mail to the Professor. In your mail use your Africanness for once. We don't use this our "STRENGTH " so much i personally believe. Your Situation is as follows. You are from a poor African country and will want to further your education. However, you don't have all the funds. You would like do research in bla bla,, which is why you send a mail to him. Talk about how you value Japan work and research ethics. You have funds for say 1 semester; would it be possible for the professor to help you with a scholarship? In the meantime research about MEXT. Would it be possible for the professor to nominate you for MEXT scholarship as well? Send this kind of mail to as many as many professor in your field of interest. But you should be ready before sending such a mail. By ready ; do you have the following: 1. A draft copy of your research of interest? ( read 2 pages backwards ) 2. physical and scanned copies of your educational quals? 3. physical and scanned copies of your transcript? 4. Ielts academic? My Humble 2 cents. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 2:35am On Aug 11, 2025 |
blackbriar:The thing is that you have written this template like four times on this thread. The question is: what stops prospective applicants from going through this thread from the beginning to the end? I am not a fan of feeding bottle mentality. Everything has been stated for like four years now. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by blackbriar: 6:40am On Aug 11, 2025 |
Gerrard59:Bros, what can we do but sigh, and continue to help. However, it is most worrisome that if one can't do a simple google search in English, how would cope in Japan with the language. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Gerrard59(m): 10:31am On Aug 11, 2025 |
blackbriar:Tell the person to read the thread from the beginning to the end. Afterwards, the person should conduct a basic Google search. Finally, a very specific question can be asked. Anyone who cannot conduct basic research in English on the Internet CANNOT THRIVE in Japan. It is not possible. |

blackbriar:Thank you for the information. I’ve researched the SSW pathway before, but your post about it prompted me to ask this question. |
| Re: Japanese Visa And Travelling To Japan by Nfest: 12:54pm On Aug 18, 2025 |
blackbriar:Greetings, I just got my COE form from the school. My question is how do I apply for the visa? Do I just go to the embassy with my passport and the COE form. Honestly I am tired of filling Japanese forms. The form filling is just too much. Thank you |
