The Governors are completely senseless.12 billion naira spent wastefully without yielding any positive result. How can a state governor leave the country for a foreign investment trip without having a glimpse of how it will end.

Ekiti generated $4,250 as foreign direct investment.

Imagine flexing as if generating revenue that amounts to 5% of a Premiership footballer's weekly wage is an achievement worthy of celebration😂
Pls epp us x-ray all states.

You cannot really blame those state governors. After all, we spend resources to participate in job interviews and pursue contracts without getting either of them in the end. In life, you use money to pursue money.
Where you got it all wrong is that, we spend our personal money to participate in interviews and pursue contract so the motive is genuine

But for these governors that explore every avenue to loot state funds ... what if they are not using money to pursue money but just stashing more looted funds away

"...In total, 30 states accounted for nearly N12 billion in travel costs without results to show in terms of capital inflow.... "

Just imagine! These are the usual misfits and grossly insensitive band of useless misplaced priority and elitism leaders Nigeria is unfortunate to have. God help the cause of this nation.
it can safely be argued that the remaining six never really attracted any FDI. Those are just inflow destined to happen but now coinciding with the useless travels. How many such travel did Buhari travel? Who go come go come.

Majority of the State Governors seem to be on a jamboree of sorts, if you ask me.

Why spending these humongous sums without any tangible results to show for it?

It's a pointer to the fact that these large sums of monies were simply laundered or shared amongst the "armu-robbers" in the manner of PDP of old whose slogan was - 'P...D...P, share the money"!

Rivers, Delta and Akwa Ibom States ought to be among those attracting FDIs, but "whosai'.

These Governors are busy feathering their nests in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

One can see clearly that the Governors are the main problem.

FAAC allocations have tripled to the States and Local Governments but never trickles down to the ordinary people.

It's better to always scapegoat Tinubu than looking at the direction of the Governors and the LG Chairmen who are having a field day while smiling to the bank.

If foreign trip no work local trip fit work ..At least e be like say first lady hold well, she fit dey interested in investing in states and she fit get collegues at the upper echelon who go help the put the masses in active duty. Without LDI no FDI. Efcc should have a repayment plan if LDI are corruptly entangled instead of outright seizure, else money go die for cemetery .

What portion of the $84 billion subsidy savings that is making everything costly for us is ebilokan using to junket the world without any FDI to make life easier for everyone?

What is ebilokan and APC doing with all the $84 billion subsidy savings if he is taking more loans than previous presidents huh

chisomkachy:
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s first supplementary budget includes a fleet of SUVs for himself and his wife, a presidential yacht and the renovation of his villa amid a cost-of-living crisis for some of the poorest people in the world.

The proposal — which seeks additional funding beyond the annual budget approved by Tinubu’s predecessor — comes as the government asks Nigerians to persevere through pain caused in part by a raft of economic reforms ushered in by the new president. Africa’s most populous country faces rampant unemployment, soaring food prices and a plummeting currency.

Federal lawmakers approved the president’s request for extra spending on Thursday, but eliminated the provision of 5 billion naira ($6.01 million) to buy a presidential yacht. Instead, they doubled the allocation to a student loan fund to 10 billion naira, according Abubakar Bichi, chairman of an appropriations committee in the House of Representatives.

The lawmakers approved 1.5 billion-naira proposed to purchase SUVs for the office of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu — an amount larger than that allocated to many individual federal colleges. The supplementary budget also proposes almost 6 billion naira to purchase SUVs for the presidency — more than the amount initially allocated to fund a student loan program for poor families.

Rather than directing their attention towards state governors and holding them accountable for the substantial monthly allocations they receive, both civil society and the general public continue to concentrate disproportionately on the federal government.

The issue here is what we have been dealing with since 1966 - mutual suspicion. The people don't trust their leaders because they don't even trust themselves.

If a governor wants to loot state resources, he doesn't need to travel. He will inflate the cost of projects and nothing will happen. Give those guys some credit - some of them are actually working. Again, the issue here is lack of trust.

Many of those trips were actually for jamboree .

Made as a tourist to first world countries with girl friends while telling the public it was an investment drive.

They want foreigners to come and waste their money in Nigeria where the security of investment is not guaranteed in any form, and in a country in which themselves cannot invest in. Who do us this thing?

Very typical of leaders who have no vision. Just leaders for the fun if it. That's how selfish leadership work. I'm no Peter Obi apologetic but it is obvious the ruling class hate the leadership template of Peter Obi. And that's why they fight him so aggressively.

No mention US as they don’t have a moral ground to stand on as the greatest economic saboteurs, national resource stealers and assasinators of half decent and good African leaders allegedly.

Racoon:
The US embassy is absolutely right about the wasteful spendthrift trait with these governors The duncehead @ the top have taught these thieving governors criminality. Hence they go on frivolous jamborees to attract zero investors that are running from them.

A country with good leadership with feasible economic programs in place needs no chase any investors. The opposite will happen.

I thank God plateau state is not among the listed states. The truth is that plateau state governor is a visionary leader just like PO. What Nigeria lacks is leadership, and any serious leader that wants to truly change the narrative can do that in less than four years. It is not rocket science, it is about the person that wields or call the shot, you cannot give what you do not have. There are two divides to leadership, good or bad. I am glad my governor falls on the good side, if yours happen to fall on the other side there is nothing you can do about it for now, wait till 2027 to do the needful. You might be lucky to get a visionary one like mine.

Dont patronize me, if the people dont trust the politician/govt whose fault ... these are not just baseless of suspicions they profounded on series of evidence
Do you remember Gov. Alamieyeseigha and ibori where caught with laundered funds in uk ... so what does people not trusting themselves got to do with anything here

what about If the governors want to launder funds and why wait on project only to loot funds when there are multi channels to cash out .. oga naa see finish we know these people

if your son is studying hard in your front but coming home with F9 result will you give him some credit ... didnt we see Fashola and Ambode workings did they need to do advert

at a time osibanjo took over in buhari absence within the short period didnt Nigerians cheer Osinbajo.. oga we are not hard to please
The Governors are not working let's call a spade a spade ...

Those foreign trips are mere jamborees and vacation for politicians and their friends. forget about the numerous MOU they claimed to have signed because no serious investors will bring their resources into those states having seen the sharp practices and wastefulness of the government officials at close quarters during their visit.
Re: 30 States Spent ₦11.75 Billion On Foreign Trips To Attract FDI With Zero Results by Reference(m): 5:44pm On Aug 08, 2025
Then money doesn't belong to the governors so they do what every kid in a candy store does...

And that is because they real owners of the resources don't bother to ask how.

If accountability is not one of your strong points I really cannot see any other destination than a land of multi dimensional poverty.

Imagine states with high volatile insecurities are the ones that spend more money on trip abroad than some peaceful and partial secure state.
Just blowing money up and down without tackling of the insecurities is like fetching water in a basket.
