Avoid it if it's Nigerian used, my relative bought one cheap but ended up regretting it. Now, trying to resell it is proving to be a major headache. |

One of the most durable cars ever. Just follow the rules of this car. My Passat fsi was bought brand new 18 years ago. Yes you heard me right. 18 years ago. I didn't start changing some worn out parts till in 2015. I bought it in 2007 April precisely, roughly 2 months before my second child's birth. Full option. 5.7m. Brand new. When Nigeria was still good ooo. Nigerians are so crazy about Japanese cars that we relegate VW cars. I am thinking of selling it to buy a 2020 model. The engine has never been touched. Gear box , extremely sharp. The only thing not working in the car is the AC and it's not a big deal. The leather seats were cracked so I covered it with car seat covers. But everything else is working perfectly well. Just be using Castrol oil for the engine. Service as and when due. Their spare parts last very well especially the Belgium or Tokunbo types. Go for the car meeeennnn. The first sedan car to come with 6 gear speeds, 6 cd loaders. I still dey cruise my car, but thinking of selling it. Not because it has problems, but I gotta to let it go. I did a little body work and resprayed it in 2020. The same blue colour it came with. But don't go for Nigerian used o. Buy either new or Tokunbo I no dey for Nigeria used. Even this my own I will sell to people that would destroy it and sell off the parts, because I am so sentimental about the car that if I see someone else driving it, I might cry. But if anyone decides to buy it from me and drive, it's only the AC , the cracked windscreen he would work on So go for the 2015/ 2020 . Very strong and durable. If you need more advice. Contact me. I am a woman car freak 😂 |

Idaok007:it's better to avoid and go for a regular Toyota if you're going to patronize random roadside mechanics without proper tools and scanning equipments. I suggest you read up consumer reviews on sites like Edmunds and watch YouTube videos |

As a first car owner, go for a Toyota Corolla or Camry, or Honda City/Civic or Accord. Leave these German machines till you have gathered some experience. . . |

my 1st car was a passat and I will tell u emphatically that I have no regrets but I spent lots of time with my mechanics I almost lost it but I used that as an opportunity to know more about the technical aspects of cars and how to monitor my mechanics for future repairs and other cars I say no regrets cos VW gave me a driving experience I can't get from any Toyota car and I wanted that. I also used a VW tiguan with little to no issues. Buying a VW passat u must know abit about the engine type it's very important cos there are problematic variations and more reliable engines FSI engine is very reliable like a Toyota. |

Op where’s your location first?. First hand experience and advice. Before you get a Volkswagen car, be sure to find a competent Volkswagen mechanic and electrician. These two people will either make or break your car. Volkswagen cars do not tolerate abuse or bypasses unlike its Japanese counterparts but they are absolutely rugged, and when it get abused or bypassed it might serve for a while but be sure that it will surely cause a damage (pray it’s not an irreversible or irreparable damage). Also you must be highly meticulous with your Volkswagen car. Get a VAG tool I’d recommend Ancel scanners if you can’t afford an Ancel Scanner then download the Volkswagen scanner app known as VCDS on your laptop and also get the USB to OBD2 cord. Always run a scan before you fix anything on your Volkswagen, no matter how sure you are the problem is, scan first, read the codes, interpret and then make your own findings / research. Don’t solely rely on your mechanic no matter how good he or she is. Try and join a Volkswagen group, share your problems, you might be lucky someone has encountered such, then you tell your mechanic about your findings. sometimes mechanics can still learn from their clients. You cannot drive a Volkswagen and remain a novice in the automobile world, it must broaden your horizon on the mechanics of machines. Also kindly avoid swimming water, most of Volkswagen parts rely on modules, fuses and relays also most steerings are electrical. Their parts are kind of expensive but it can withstand the test of time. Most Volkswagen parts are durable even the after-market parts you can hardly get knock offs. There’s a lot to share. Feel free to reach out to me |

Idaok007:Honest advise for you 1) where was the car imported from? If it’s from Germany, or Europe in general, that’s a good point 2) If there are other Volkswagen options, such as Golf, same year, please go for it and leave Passat. In summary, avoid Passat If you must go for Volkswagen of this class and year go for Golf that’s made in Europe |

Idaok007:As long as you have a good mechanic to handle the car, there's no problem. It's a very strong German machine and also very fuel efficient... Even more fuel efficient than Toyota Corolla. Avoid a bad mechanic by every means possible. If you're in Lagos, I can direct you to a good mechanic in Ikeja |

Idaok007: Pls don't buy it. You are better off with Toyota or maybe Honda. I believe the gear system is damaged is very expensive. A car should give you peace of mind. |

2010 Look for Biodun in Alapere mechnic village- behind Oando filling station beside Olam (Afriprint warehouse) He understands VW, Audi, Porsche. Or Ojo, beside Elizade Plaza at Anthony Village. He is Biodun’s friend too. They understand those brands. Or he or his friend can link you up with Baba Ni Ilawe. He is an old man. He trained all Biodun and co at VW Center from Gbagada to Apapa-Oshodi Express Way. That’s if you are in Lagos. |

Used this brand, 2018/19. My brother, bad experience, it is sleek, fast and durable but the mechanics that understand it are few. I became a regular customer of Iyana Itire, that is like the HQ of VW and Audi in Lagos. 60% of the mechanical repairs require you to remove the front bumper etc that is money first and not all panel beater can remove and fix back properly. AC problems, electricals hmmm. The parts are a bit pricey. I will pick a Japanese or South Korean car anyday over it. |

Thunderfayamods:Chairman your advice can only work for those staying abroad allow those that stays in Nigeria and use the car to advice him......I took same car to Oshogbo from Lagos and the next day car stop moving we couldn't get anyone to fix it, the one we eventually saw that promised heaven and earth end up destroying the gear and we are advised to get another gear worth 1.1m.... my comment is based on the fact that you can't used your experience over there to tell him to get the car.... |
