Before we should think of banning fuel importation we have to have at least 5 or 6 functioning refineries in the country and the refineries shouldn't be owned by one man... If this can be achieved, I believe many people will support the total ban on fuel importation. And I don't even understand this talk of growing the economy if refined fuel importation is banned. But our economy was the best in the whole of Africa when we were importing refined fuel... Na wa ooh |

If Dangote refinery shuts down, these irresponsible marketers will finish Nigerians. BTW, why is the BUA refinery taking so long to come on stream? Nigeria needs at least one refinery with 100k bpd refining capacity for each of the six regions to satisfy regional petroleum demands. |

SmartPolician:but before dangote refinery came on board, people were importing and the marketers didn't kill Nigerians. And if I could even remember, our economy was booming when we were importing refined fuel. Many Nigerians were living large and happy. Don't import this, don't import that; na like that una take spoil the country with unnecessary hardship ![]() |

This was the same man fighting for petrol importation rights some years ago. His excuse then was that he needed the rights because he will sometimes shut his refinery down for routine maintenance. Now he's confessing that routine maintenance has no effect on supply. So why did he need the importation rights? This whole refinery thing has been shady from the onset and is no less shady today. He's just NNPC in a suit after all. |

Kastonkastroll:There is no need to ban fuel importation naa. Its a free market, import if you want to import. Dangote brought the cleanest fuel in Nigeria, No more scarcity of fuel. He also built the first working refinery in Nigeria, even reducing the price. None of which has ever happened in Nigeria. |

I don't know what is stopping our government to build a government owned refinery, have control over d price, so they can send this dangote to oblivion..the man is not after Nigeria welfare, he is only after his pocket...imagine someone that promise a cheaper and stable supply of fuel if the refinery start production..but here we are today... Kastonkastroll:You speak with so much ignorance who told you our economy was booming? You never heard about subsidy, same petrol subsidy that was destroying our economy. When had many Nigerians ever lived large and happy ? Even when petrol was 70naira and a bag of rice just 8k Nigeria was still the among poorest country in the world with decrepit looking infrastructures every where, many Nigerians have short memory |

If it won't affect supply of petrol, then why does the company think the public needs to know about it maintenance operation? Not everything has to be news. |

This is confusing, in a breath u are doing maintenance and still do business....but if dangote have the license to import pms and others, then they'll probably start giving out imported products and still remain in business.... |
