In 1894, the Niger Delta witnessed a battle that shook the British Empire. A fearless Itsekiri chief, Nana Olomu, refused to give up control of his people’s trade — even when the British warships came for him.

I have written an article on :

how Nana of Itsekiri stood his ground, the fierce battle at Ebrohimi, and the shocking aftermath that followed.

This is not just history — it’s the story of one man’s fight to protect his land, wealth, and people from colonial takeover.

Itshekiri kingdom is one of the oldest kingdoms in Nigeria...

Dating back to the 15th century.

I never realized how old it was as a kingdom.

It ranks together with the Oyo,benin, kanem borno, and igala kingdoms as some of the oldest in Nigeria.

It's been able to preserve some of its history and kingdom generally through generations but I wonder why they are so quiet in terms projecting their kingdom and what they achieved in the past.

I mean most people don't realize how old the kingdom is. And the rich cultural background.

Most people would mention the Oyo,ife etc kingdoms when listing ancient African kingdoms!

Haha. Nana the slave dealer is now a strong man who fought the British. Stop the crap. Nana's only fight was to oppose British stoppage of slavery and British efforts to deal directly with traders eliminating middle men like Nana.

Nana is no hero.
