It has been going on like a rumour but we know that everything starts off like a rumour in Nigeria. We have heard that some people, northerners especially, are trying to draft Jonathan into the 2027 presidential election because he’s constitutionally restricted to just one term which is safer for the north than trusting Peter Obi’s unbinding promise of a single term. But the question is, should Jonathan run again? Should he move from being a statesman to jumping around for campaign again? Is Jonathan better than Peter Obi? |

Is Jonathan better than Peter Obi? What should the bases of our judgement be? One is an ex-president the other is an ex governor. |

Obidients are beseeching GEJ to continue to be a statesman while Batists have become emergency constitutional lawyers interpreting the constitution. Jonathan coming into the race clearly changes all permutations. The PDP definitely needs him as a lifeline. This is a direct repercussion of Obi basing his candidacy on the promise of doing just a single term. Jonathan is known for taking advantage of circumstances but I believe he's eminently qualified to do so and he will take away most of the Northern and Southsouthern votes that Tinubu was hoping to get |

I don’t think GEJ wants to do that. People keep putting his name out there for selfish political reasons, but I doubt he’ll run, especially not against Tinubu because 2027 will be the worst and dirtiest election in Nigeria’s history. What Yakubu did in 2023 will be child’s play compared to 2027. |

There's a saying: if we know better, we do better. Yes, Jonathan is better than Peter Obi and will do a better job because he has been there before. There's a huge gap between being a governor and being a president. But I don't think he's coming back because I remember there was a law passed during the last administration that disqualified him from returning to Aso Rock. |

SmartPolician:I think we have to give PO a chance. He has changed the style of leadership, is not known to be good with inflated projects, and very responsive. Something happens during his government and he’ll be there the next day, and available to the press to answer questions. This is something unusual in Nigeria’s politics. Secondly, if Atiku won’t step down for PO, he won’t step down for GEJ either. If GEJ rumors are true then it explains why Atiku resigned. While I think GEJ will pull a bigger crowd than PO especially up north, and will urge PO to step down for him, I think PO brings new leadership style that I want to see in Nigeria’s politics. But ultimately, whoever can unseat Tinubu is who should run in 2027 whether PO or GEJ. |

Softmirror:One thing is sure though ... either of GEJ or PO is far better than Tinubu. |

Less than 2 years before the election. If you were GEJ, with no early preparation for the election, would you have run? |

Ipob 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I thought you guys love Jonathan so much that you carry his matter on your head. why all this campaign against him now?. Since the news broke, una no gree sleep. I thought you guys will be happy for GEJ coming back but because your Obi stand no chance and will no longer enjoy the attention , you don start your agenda against GEJ. |

SmartPolician:You’ve tested GEJ as President, have you tested Obi as president? Can you compare Jonathan’s achievement as governor of Bayelsa to Peter Obi’s achievement as governor of Anambra? Peter Obi took Anambra from the jaws of godfathers and till today, the godfthers have lost control of Anambra. Can you say that of Jonathan? Was he able to save Nigeria from the evil holding it down? Anambra was a den of criminals before Obi. But he came and brought sanity to the state. Jonathan was governor of Bayelsa, a state that is one of the highest earners from FAAC and the smallest state in Nigeria, but what can you point at as Jonathan’s achievement with that? We’ve tried Jonathan and saw what he did. He was so weak he could not see through the removal of fuel subsidy. He watched while APC criminals came together and took Nigeria. Such a thing cannot happen under Obi, and that’s why they are afraid of him. So, I still hold Jonathan in high esteem but he should remain a statesman let’s try Obi. |

Putindbutt:Obi and GEJ together on same ballot, I can guarantee you that Obi will get more votes than Jonathan even in Southsouth. Jonathan will forever be our man and will always have our respect. But he should rest. It’s Obi’s time. |

Fear who no fear ipob, because of Ibo presidency, see what they're now saying about GEJ 😂😂😂😂. GEJ that they said was the best thing after slice bread is becoming their number one enemy ?. |

If you're angry that GEJ was not allowed to complete his eight years and now that he has the opportunity, why are you not happy he's coming back to complete it?. People can now see that all what these ipob/Obidients been saying about GEJ was an eye service 🤣🤣🤣 |
| Re: 2027: Should Jonathan Run Again? by jmoore(m): 1:39pm On Aug 09, 2025 |
Yes, Goodluck Jonathan should run under APC. APC should nominate Jonathan as their presidential candidate. Have you heard Jonathan criticizing the tribulation of Tinubu's government? I don't understand why you guys will bring one into a conversation that he has not even shown interest in. Let's bring back Lord Lugard to be president. |

I am a big fan of GEJ, but i think BAT should be allowed to finish all the reform he started, if his health permit. But that Obi guy should just go an siddon ![]() |

givedemwotowoto:Do you know how many things are happening in Nigeria at a time? 😁 Seriously, his presence at the scenes of incidents are not really needed but actions |

Penguin2:🤡🤡 The way GEJ will flog Obi, e go be like thief wey steal maggi. You think the religious and tribal factor behind Obi will affect GEJ?. Obi has no single advantage over GEJ. Una want ibo Presidency, na wetin dey do you be that and you know GEJ will put sand sand inside una garri. |

Amotolongbo:Many of you are so used to lousy inept leadership that you now think it’s the norm. This comment is proof of that. Nobody said PO has to be at every single thing happening in Nigeria, but that Benue incident was an example of when he would’ve shown leadership. His presence is action. Verydarkman was immediately present when the Benue incident happened and that was what gave that incident worldwide attention. If Tinubu had been there immediately and summoned all security chiefs to a meeting with the governor of the state next day to go after the murderers and find a lasting solution, that’s called action. Secondly, he doesn’t need to be at every single thing, but the President of a country should be able to speak about every major thing happening in the country to show Nigerians that he’s aware and doing something about it. The President shouldn’t be hiding from the press. |

Toruibestate:How many LGAs? And what is the population? And stop lying and making spurious claims. No Igbo State is below 6,000sqm. Multiply that by 3, that’s 12k. Bayelsa is 10k. So, wrap it up.
