The Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, Retail Limited has dismissed a pump attendant and suspended a station manager over an alleged attempt to defraud a customer at one of its outlets in Ikorodu, Lagos State.


In a statement issued on Friday, the company said it became aware of the incident after a video showing the pump attendant’s misconduct went viral on social media.

The sack of the pump attendant followed an internal investigation, the company said.


“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Retail Limited wishes to state clearly that such conduct is completely unacceptable and runs contrary to our values of integrity, transparency, and premium customer service,” the statement read.

The company said it acted in line with its sanction policy, taking the following measures:

Termination of the pump attendant’s employment.


Suspension of the Station Manager.


Issuance of a formal warning letter to the dealer in charge of the station.

NNPC Retail commended members of the public for their vigilance and urged customers to promptly report similar incidents through the official customer service numbers and email displayed at all NNPC stations for immediate action.

Lol, dem go suspend way more for even that Ikoyi filling station. These guys have mastered the art of swapping price on display and a temporary amount. Once they've observed that the customer isn't looking at the pump, screen swap.

If you're buying fuel in your car, switch off the engine, come down and look at the fuel pump machine to confirm that it has been reset back to zero before they sell for you.

Also watch and confirm that they input the correct amount you told them you want to buy.

Cos once they notice that you just want to sit in your car and allow them fill up, they'll tell you to move front a bit. This is to ensure that you cannot properly see the machine while they sell to you. Thus making it much easier for them to rip you off.

Their task force should visit Badagry all NNPC stations in Badagry their pumps have been tampered with you can never get value for money

We have been so hoodwinked into forgetting that this crude oil is a free gift of nature and it belongs to all of us. All we concern ourselves with is how much they sell it to us. How much do they realise from the sale?
