The Management of Legacy FM, a private radio station in Ebonyi State, has suspended Godfrey Chikwere as acting General Manager.

Mr Chikwere’s suspension, PREMIUM TIMES gathered, followed his criticism of the state governor, Francis Nwifuru, both during radio broadcasts and on social media.

The suspended official previously worked at the state government-owned broadcast station, Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, before he was appointed the general manager of the private station in 2023.

In an announcement on the radio station on Saturday, Legacy FM’s management accused Mr Chikwere of flouting the station’s code of conduct.

“The management of Legacy FM 95.1, The Sound of Now, hereby suspends the acting general manager, Godfrey Chikwere with immediate effect, till further notice.

“This is due to unruly behaviour and disobedience to the code of conduct guiding the Legacy FM,” the station management said in the announcement.

“With such effect, he is hereby directed to hand over all the company property in his position to the next senior officer.”

Mr Chikwere has been critical of Mr Nwifuru’s administration in recent times.

The journalist in a Facebook post on Friday urged Mr Nwifuru to take decisive action to protect his image and that of Ebonyi State.

He claimed that public perception of the governor’s administration was deteriorating, and criticised the administration for what he described as poor communication, underperformance by appointees, and unfulfilled pronouncements.

Mr Chikwere cautioned that the governor’s goodwill was dwindling and advised him to “step on toes” to achieve results.

He stressed that the current state of affairs pained true supporters.

Your Excellency, under your watch, you and the State Government are ridiculed daily.

A good image for yourself and Ebonyi should be part of your greatest achievements.

You are freely ridiculed by those who should have seen what you are not seeing because of the opportunity you gave them. Those you brought from the street, rice and cassava farm to the Exco Chamber.

The perception index of Ebonyi within and outside Ebonyi is low and dwindling daily at a very embarrassing level.

Sir, when will you come to terms with the fact that Ebonyi people love you, and are with you?

In the first 6 months in office, no Ebonyi Governor enjoyed the love and goodwill enjoyed.

You were widely accepted as a humble and kind-hearted person. Today, everything is going negative. Your Excellency, what went wrong? That is the question your lovers are asking.

Your lovers can no longer find the courage to profess love publicly because each time you raise your hand to discipline, you will end up waving it in endorsement of the negative you preached and warned against in your initial breaths.

Your Excellency, disappointment is growing, hate is increasing, and your goodwill is dwindling.

Your Excellency, you will bear the consequences of whatever happened under your watch, not your appointees, stakeholders, brothers or sisters.

You have succeeded in politics in getting all the stakeholders, former this and former that on your side, but recent actions have shown that they don't love you. If not, what do Anyim, Umahi, Elechi, Egwu, Ogba, Ben Ukah, Ogbewu etc tell you during private conversations? They should represent the conscience of the people before you, if they love you.

On your appointees, you have appointees who are injuring your administration daily, yet you pamper them. Your Excellency, under watch and on working days during working hours, some of your appointees are roaming around pa Ngele Oruta Township stadium in the name of sporting activities.

Your Izzi political brothers and beneficiaries of your office are spending energy responding to your critiques through media chats and press briefings instead of seeing this Governorship position as their own by practically assisting you to succeed.

Your Legacy will determine how Izzi as a whole will be perceived in terms of goodwill after your time in office, but they don't know.

Your Excellency, you have been packaged terribly in the media space, the same way the Ebonyi image has been thoroughly packaged under watch. Constant policy and communication contradictions here and there.

Your Excellency, under watch, private communication has been made publicly while public communications have been kept private.

While you are engaging in some infrastructure programs what the public is fed daily is poor communication from the government.

Your Excellency, within two years, grass is overgrowing some of the modern school projects you awarded to stakeholders and Ebonyians. Any reprimand? Yes! Any action? No!

Your Excellency, they are playing with you on the 2-kilometre road projects..

Your Excellency, it is getting to a level where once you make an executive pronouncement, a greater number of Ebonyians will conclude that you won't do jack, and on many occasions, you proved them right.

Examples are the committee you set up on hawkers fund, your public outcry about how contractors have abandoned projects, yet nothing happened a year later, the alleged billion SSG saga, now you are using the same SSG to hold other appointees to account on the official vehicle matter.

Your Excellency, power is better overused than underused. Underused power is wasted power.

Your Excellency, the recent mantra is that you do nothing after talking.

Your Excellency, step on toes. Be encouraged by the fact that Ebonyians love you so much to the extent that they give you more time daily. You are a Christian, at a point, Jesus Christ got angry, stepped on toes, and angrily turned a table upside down publicly to drive home his message. I refer you to Matthew 21:12.

The majority still believe that you have good intentions, but good intentions without commensurate results are like a sexually reckless lady believing that she can conceive any time she likes after romancing with different infections.

Your Excellency, Your real lovers are pained. I am pained 😪😪😪

Your Excellency, a minute after power is longer than all the years in the office.
