Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has put on hold his planned collection of the African Democratic Congress membership card, amid growing speculation that former President Goodluck Jonathan may join the 2027 presidential race and he is being courted by the ADC.

Atiku, who recently resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party after prolonged internal disputes, was scheduled to formalise his defection to ADC with the collection of his membership card.


The membership card would be presented to Atiku by ADC officials at his hometown of Jada, in the Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

However, Sunday PUNCH gathered that the ceremony, which was slated for Wednesday, August 6, was postponed indefinitely without an official explanation from the former vice president’s camp

Hahahah, imagine how the GEJ's rumoured contesting in 2027 have caused confusion I'm the coalitions camp.

If indeed the opposition/coalition truly believed that GEJ will be contesting in 2027, then they are not fit to near power as they are not smart at all

Who are Peter Obi's allies in ADC ( Remember allies would eventually be the delegates)

ADC coalition have said they would go to primary to select who to represent the coalition for the presidency in 2027.

Except if you guys are the Obidients camp just decided to be deluding unaself with Peter Obi being the consensus candidate.

There's nothing like coalition under ADC, it is just gathering of displaced politicians who are confused about their future.

Nonsense rumor passed to Punch by unintelligent people. Atiku has not joined ADC for strategic reasons:

1. Atiku is one if the promoters of ADA as such cannot be a card carrier of another existing party.
ADA is being sponsored as an alternative party in the event that APC hijacks ADC.

2. Atiku wants to frustrates APC and Kwankwaso's planned alliance, such that APC may commit further strategic mistakes. First was to sideline Shettima, second will be to ... kept sealed for now.

3. There is a working arrangement within the coalition to keep things that way. The coalition have arrowheads in LP, SDP and some in PDP to subvert any plan to have any of those parties fielding credible challengers. So GEJ has zero chance of winning PDP primaries with Atiku's men still in PDP.

4. Perhaps the most important is to keep Tinubu guessing and running 🏃 from pillar to post.

As for GEJ, he is barred from contesting for president. Do not mind those arguing about the law being set after he had left office. The relevant sections read as follows:
Section 137(3) provides: “A person who was sworn-in as president to complete the term for which another person was elected shall not be elected to such office for more than a single term.

Secondly, if GEJ wriggled out of this by any means, he is against barred by Term Elongation clause, which limits his term as President to ONLY 2 FOUR (8 YEARS). We all know GEJ has done 6 years, so he cannot be sworn in for another 4 years to make 10. That would violate Section 135(2A) of Nigeria Constitution. Infact it would not take Tinubu's Supreme Court 20 minutes to declare him intelligible to be sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria

That's a distraction. Forget that stuffs. Atiku was last seen during buhari demise. He looked very tired and worn-out, limping and not balanced. Seems he is receiving medical attention somewhere. Jonathan won't come back. It's just a distraction. The question should be, where is atiku?

sorry oh cos igbo presidency in 2027 is fast fading away. It's either Atiku or Jonathan for ADC ticket. Atiku will willing step down for Jonathan cos he knows Jonathan will only do four years and he take over Incase he wins. Obi is out of the equation. Take heart in advance. Nzogbu nzogbu politics will never favour you guys but you keep playing it every time.

You guys don't know politics. Atiku and some northerners against Tinubu reelection will comfortably support Jonathan who will only do four years and they will get it back. That is why they are far better politicians than igbos. Besides that, they knows obi is a tribalist and religious bigot, so they won't support him.

Igbos have been crying since Jonathan news of contesting in 2027. I said it before that they will be the pawn to be used in the oncoming political chess game and it will lead them to political wilderness for so long. Politics is not for naive person.

I can see your point boss but Atiku will never make that mistake..

He’ll rather appeal to Tinubu and wait till Tinubu finishes. Atiku knows for sure that Jagaban owns 2027..

What happened to his Labour Party? He should recontest on the same platform which he claimed his mandate was stolen to prove to the world that he won the last presidential election.

GEJ is the game changer. Atiku knows this. The North will support him massively as they know he can only do 4 years. PO best move is to support GEJ, in return for either a powerful minister position (finance preferably) or chief of staff. The reality sadly is the North and SW will not vote for PO meaning no route to victory for him
