Obi is so desperate, imagine he saying proposing single term of 5years , when will the bill be past, signed by the president. The mad man that gave obi that advice should be located and appeased

Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, responded on August 9, 2025, via his official X account to remarks by Peter Obi, Labour Party leader and former Anambra State governor.

According to Channels TV, Obi, speaking at the Bauchi State Government House, advocated for a single five-year presidential term in Nigeria, arguing it would allow leaders to prioritize governance over reelection efforts.

According to Channels TV, Peter Obi said, "If I have the opportunity, we should stop having a second tenure for presidents. It should be five years. That is what is in South Korea."

Olayinka criticized Obi’s proposal, sarcastically noting that Obi, whom he called “Mr ONE SHOE,” was already extending his earlier single four-year term pledge to five years before even contesting the 2027 election."

In his statement, he said, "Mr One Shoe is already trying to increase his "one term" to 5 years even when he is yet to contest the 2027 Presidential Election.

Single tenure of five years is not a bad idea
We will start that during Tinubu second tenure

Actually it's a bad idea for African countries where leaders only care about themselves, just imagine if buhari had single term of 5 years , I doubt he would have done anything other than give his tribesmen more room to operate and then marry off his kids to rich families, Nigeria would have been worse off. Or imagine past governors like ikpeazu , orji ,etc , they will use the 5 years to balance well and steal while giving the state residents palliatives, there will be absolutely no motivation to want to develop the state.
but you know second term is were elected officials steals and don't really do anything. Imagine tinubu second term it will be worst than this

It’s not new, the current NA proposed it I think, it was shut down. Now PO has proposed same, it has suddenly become a great idea.

The proposal that South Korea does it is just outrageous. Why don’t we copy Russia or North Korea?
You are obviously not thinking, you just want to talk.

Why are they always against any progressive thought? Is one single term of 5 years not better than this 2 terms mess?
When he said he needed only four years, una dey hail am, now he's proposing 5years, una still dey hail am. Why can't he stick to one?, From 5years, he may increase it to 6years. Not quite correct Oga chucks185.

Peter Obi saying the President should spend one term (be it 4 or 5 years) is a political voodoo. He knows he will not spend one term but PO is prone to lying from his gap tooth. Governor Soludo said any politician campaigning on spending one term in office needs to have his head examined.

All I know is that a new Nigeria is imPOssible with PO and I am not from the southwest.
He could even do the four years without achieving anything. He is just after getting the power

Lere Olayinka jobless? He’s doing the job Wike is paying him for.
If you hear his salary for being Wike’s Special Assistant, your head would probably go into a spin. He’s doing his job by throwing these jabs ……and effectively too! Imagine someone yet to be President already jumping from 4 year term to 5 years. Hahaha! grin grin grin

You make a lot of sense brother.. For a typical African politician, the one term tenure might even make things worse because the little they even try to do in their first term is motivated by their desire to secure a 2nd tenure..

Our challenge is deeper than all this superficial tenure adjustment solution..

From my research of the reasons things are working out in places like Asia, I discovered that they have this deep rooted attachment and love for their culture and land..

Take Saudi Arabia and other Arab nations where monarchy is being practised, you will be hearing things like 10 to 30 years development plan because there is continuity in government.. They derive pleasure in developing their land with a passion.. If it all, there is any form of corruption, the money will still be pooled back into their economy to generate more jobs and prosperity for their people..

An average Japanese leader would rather commit suicide than fly himself to Europe for a medical check up when he can replicate the same world class amenities at home.. It is more of a cultural self-pride thing for them compared to an African ruler who sees it as a class symbol.. The African ruler doesn't even understand the relationship between such continuous actions rooted in deep inferiority complex and the underdevelopment of their land. Nothing happens by coincidence in the universe.

Look at China for instance, they are gradually becoming a world power despite frowning at democracy and embracing dictatorship..

Look at what Ghadaffi was able to achieve in Libya despite running an unlimited tenure..

My point is, it is not really about this tenure rotation of a thing.. It is about the deep cultural connection a leader has for his land, origin and people. It is possible for a kind-hearted leader who loves his land to a fault to achieve in 2 years what a wicked leader cannot achieve even if he spends 40 years in power.. African leaders like Paul Biya, Compaore are great examples of this..

Nigeria is too complex and disunited to be running this type unitary form of government where the government is too detached from the people.. It is like a no man's land where they take turn to pillage and massacre the spoil before handing over to the next predator.. Change from Tinubu to a thousand Peter Obi, as long as the foundation remains faulty, things will only continue to get worse because the forces profiting from the present chaos and confusion are much stronger than the masses wishing for a real change.

For the meantime, let us continue to deceive ourselves that Nigeria is a country without having the balls to sit down and address the foundational issues.
