I Follow God For What I Will Gain by Daniel058(op): 2:03pm On Aug 09, 2025
Why do people Keep lieing that they don't follow God for what they will gain? Who are they trying to deceive?
Anyone following God is doing so because of what they are gaining/what they expect to gain.
Re: I Follow God For What I Will Gain by FreeIgboho: 2:11pm On Aug 09, 2025
Wrong. Most prople do so simply because that's all they've known since birth.
Even if the atheist next door is very successful they'll still be the same!

Do you have friends at all?
Are you being friend to all due to gain? undecided

Do you not know that people love to lie?

And then there are those who do not know what they are doing

So you never see that even by SS3 and at least year 2 undergraduate every child starts thinking and re measuring all that he has ever known from birth?

Just say you are one of those who still remained mummy and daddy's boy even after you entered the university

Serving God yields spiritual, personal, and eternal gains, including divine favor and presence, a deeper understanding of purpose, personal fulfillment, and the hope of eternal life with God. You can also experience blessings like protection, provision, and opportunities to connect with others and build community.

Spiritual and Eternal Gains

Divine Presence and Favor:
Serving God often brings a heightened awareness of His presence, granting favor and blessings that one could not earn on their own.

Purpose and Fulfillment:

Service helps individuals discover and fulfill their unique purpose, leading to a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

Eternal Hope:

Many religious perspectives emphasize that serving God is the best way to secure a joyful eternity with Him.

Spiritual Ascension:

Service for God, particularly in helping others, provides a means for spiritual growth and advancement.

Personal and Practical Gains

Joy and Peace:
A life of service can bring deep and lasting joy, peace, and hope, providing a new perspective and a way to handle life's challenges.
Personal Growth and Confidence:
Serving others, especially in community settings, can help develop confidence, especially for those who are shy or new to an area.

Community and Connection:

Service connects people with similar interests and values, building community and fostering meaningful relationships.
Health and Longevity:
Some beliefs suggest that serving God provides physical blessings, such as taking away sickness, ensuring a longer life, and preventing premature death.
Benefits for the Kingdom of God
Advancing God's Kingdom:
Service allows individuals to participate directly in God's work on Earth, advancing His interests and kingdom.
Transforming Others:
By reflecting God's transforming power, individuals become a positive influence, making God appealing to the world and turning others from wickedness.

There is a problem with your submission:
The true God doesn't like friends whose closeness to Him is based on favor that's why He so much cherished Abraham and keep calling Himself the "God of Abraham"
In the days of Abraham rebellious angels were everywhere talking to people who cares to make friends with spirits and as you said most people make friends for favoritism that is the time Abraham also heard a voice from the spirit realm who called and told him to leave his families, friends and the ancient world trade center back then to an unknown destination!
Abraham complied just to become the friend of this spirit then after leaving all the good life of a city to live in tents as if that's not enough this spirit asked a full grown adult to circumcise himself and all males related to him then promised Abraham that he will become the father of nations but until the man grew old to 90 years he had no child yet he didn't give up on his spirit friend who kept promising him.
Abraham's wife got fed up and she tried to know who could be the cause of their childlessness between the two only to discover that Abraham is 100% potent this made Abraham felt relief only for his spirit friend to tell him that the child born to him by his wife's maid isn't what He promised but Abraham's wife who no longer see her menstrual period will bear him the promised child! Genesis 17:18-21 embarassed
Ok our old man's spirit friend finally gave Abraham a son through his 90 years old wife only for this spirit friend to ask him to sacrifice this son again! Genesis 22:1-2 huh
Abraham complied again!
Well from that moment God said to his friend Abraham:
“Do not harm the boy, and do not do anything at all to him, for now I do know that you are God-fearing because you have not withheld your son, your only one, from me.” Genesis 22:12

From that day God declared that from generation to generation let all the people and peoples continue to call Him "the God of Abraham" in fact James (Jesus' sibling) said:

And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. ‭James 2:23 NIV‬

So my dear friend you need the type of faith Abraham had before you can be a friend of the God of Abraham that's what will make Him count you as one of the descendants of Abraham not by birth but by the same type of faith you have like Abraham! Romans 4:11

God bless you and may you have Peace!

Notice how NOT ONE person's mind has been changed even a little bit in this Religion section. I have a thread arguing divinity of Jesus for 70 pages. Not a SINGLE person's mind has been changed even a little. People still believe EXACTLY what they believed at the beginning of the thread.
Have you asked yourself why?

Fine! What have you realistically gained from following this God of yours that you believe could not be achieved by those who do not follow this God of yours? And why are you certain that it is only by your following this God of yours that you can or have been able to achieve these things? huh

Most changes that is for people to change acknowledging that God is Right takes place over time and after many bad fortunes.

But truly if it is a change for the bad, you would hear them openly declare their support immediately.

So, don't bother about trying to see people change. In fact they know that you are looking for it, so you ought to know that they won't let you have it. People never give what you ask.

Are these things not also physical?

So, it's not just spiritual gains alone but we have physical gains too

God made a promise remember?, so he had something to gain in the relationship. That's why he accepted, and the spirit (God)was able to convince him that he's better than the spirits ( Fallen angels) speaking to other people in those days. cheesy

Talk for yourself sir. I don't obey my parents because I expect something from them. I obey them because I love them and I have a relationship with them. If one has the right relationship with God, you no longer follow for profit, you follow out of love.

That is a great reason to follow God. In fact, that's why we preach to others, to tell them of the rewards that come from living the gospel. But as our relationship with God grows, we follow Him out of love more than out of gain.
That way, we are not discouraged even when we feel the blessings are not forthcoming.

Go and read the story again he just want to make a spirit friend just like most of his contemporaries this spirit started promising Abraham after he left his home, friends and families.

Genesis 12vs 1-3

12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.

2 “I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.[a]
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”[b]

The Bible never said anything between Abram And God anywhere else, it all started from chapter 12v . You can see that the promise was what motivated him

Now go back to Genesis 11:30-32

Now Sarʹai was barren; she had no child. Teʹrah then took Aʹbram his son and Lot his grandson, the son of Haʹran, and Sarʹai his daughter-in-law, the wife of Aʹbram his son, and they went with him out of Ur of the Chal·deʹans to go to the land of Caʹnaan. In time they came to Haʹran and began dwelling there. The days of Teʹrah were 205 years. Then Teʹrah died in Haʹran.

I'm very sorry for Calling you a liar, please forgive me 🙏.

The Bible say you should honour your father and mother that your days may be long, it's also their right to be taken care of by you, because they had done that too you, they brought you into this world, took care of your need till you are old enough to be taking care of yourself . You see,You have something to gain by taking care of them. grin

Yes the bible says we should honour our parents but I really don't go back to that verse before I give honour to my parents. My only motivation is love. I have never thought about the blessings I would get before giving them honour. I can bet you that humans were honouring their parents before the 10 commandments were given. Many of us just do it out of love not because it is written.
I have friends that I help once in a while, I don't do it because I expect any reward. I do it because I love them.
Now don't you think there are some people out there who obey God more out of love than because they seek a blessing?
