Trying to drive a sterile narrative that Cocoa contributes anything tangible to the national purse?
Any increases in terms of the quantity of financial accruals from the ao called cocoa exports, has nothing to do with any wonderful economic impact associated with the policies of the present rudderless regime. It is all about an increase based on the devaluation of the naira! Put succinctly; the dollar gives ypu more worthless naira these days. To start with, how much quantity of Oil has Nigeria been selling to Belgium? What next? Agbe-rosim overtakes Nigeria gas export to Bhutan and Laos!

Fantastic news.

I was with a state government official recently when he said that Akwa Ibom is on the coat tail of his state (Ondo) and may likely surpass Ondo as the highest producer of cocoa in a few years.

Interestingly, I also heard that many of the farm hands and workers in Ondo cocoa farms are from Akwa Ibom. Many of the original owner families were stopped showing much interest in the farms when cocoa prices was depressed for so many years. Now that prices have shot through the roof, they are returning to reclaim their farms.

Nigeria should certainly take advantage of the current international market situation.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The cocoa were planted as soon as Tinubi took over. They were not producing before, but as soon as tinubu entered, they started producing.

I thought that Premium Times dey carry fake news.

Propaganda no dey bring good to a people.

I don't see any Akwa Ibom on our farm here in Ondo town. And most Ondo are taking back their farm from farm workers or people who lease them. My dad had taken back his own. Cocoa is now the new crude oil, don't sleep.

The fact that cocoa overtook crude oil doesnt necessarily signify a good thing. It just means that belgium is buying more cocoa from nigeris than crude. It could also be that nigeria is not even belgium major supplier of crude or that nigeris govt has put more work in ensuring that we diversify our foreign exports, it just means that cocoa was boughr in belgium than crudw oil. That is all!

Only if coca seeds can be faked, then trust our SE bother would have dominate the industry.

Because they are only driven by money and not to value adding, reason you see them specialise in selling fake medicine drinks, electronics and car parts, drug pushing and skull minning.

Last December, bag of cocoa sold for 600k all time high. If you are from South West, Edo and Cross River State you will understand what I'm saying. Cocoa farmers are having their honeymoon right now, that is why whenever I see some Slowpoke shouting hunger here, I just pity their miserable life.

Ondo State is the highest cocoa-producing state in Nigeria, according to multiple sources. It's often considered the heart of Nigeria's cocoa industry. While other states like Osun, Cross River, and Oyo also contribute significantly, Ondo consistently leads in cocoa production, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

There are Osun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti. Then, there is Cross River. Akwa Ibom has a long way to go.

This is not true. Ondo is. The major cocoa producing states in the country are in the southwest. Cross River is the top non-southwest producing state.

600K ke? It was 1.1m per tonne. Take it or leave it. Traders had to go to far-flung states to buy cocoa because it was in enormous demand in the major producing states.

Buy the cocoa from Nigeria at maybe $1 convert it to chocolate and sell to Nigeria at $3
So what's stopping you from setting up a cocoa processing plant and convert it to chocolate and be making that $3 on a regular basis?

Life is step by step. Rome was not built in a day.
Nigeria used by exporter of crude oil and importer of fuel and other distilled crude products. But today, we have one of the biggest refineries in the world and other refineries are coming up which means Nigeria may start exporting refined products in the future.
Nigeria will start manufacturing chocolate 🍫 and other cocoa products in the future.
But we need to start from somewhere.
