My First Time In Turkey - Istanbul Stole My Heart by thesolosister(op): 6:45pm On Aug 10, 2025
Last year September, I finally ticked Turkey off my bucket list. I’m a Nigerian women from Port Harcourt, and I had been saving for almost a year for this trip. My main goal was to explore Istanbul and taste their food I always saw on YouTube.

The visa process was not too stressful because I applied early. I booked a cheap Airbnb near Sultanahmet Square so I could walk to most tourist spots.

On my first morning, I visited the Blue Mosque, architecture is out of this world. Then I got lost in the Grand Bazaar (and I didn’t mind at all 😅). I bought a handmade scarf for my mum and some Turkish delights that almost finished before I came back.

My favorite part of the trip was the Bosphorus cruise at sunset. Sitting on the deck, watching the city lights reflect on the water, and hearing the call to prayer in the background… it felt magical.

One funny thing is "a shop owner thought I was from Brazil until I told him I was Nigerian". He smiled and said, “Nigeria... Good football” 😂

Honestly, Istanbul is a place I would visit again. If you love history, food, and shopping, just go. You won’t regret it.

Is there anywhere you go in the world where there are no fine women? This type of reasoning is archaic.

Istanbul is indeed beautiful. Also try Antalya on your next visit. So good I visited twice and will visit again. Just watch out for people and shops trying to sell you cheap but "authentic" Rolex, Louis Vuitton etc.

why will you pay 50% percent of the expenses?

why would you think that she wants you to pay 50% of the expenses?

is that how you always pay 50% of the expenses with everyone you travel with?

is it yellow in complexion that makes a woman to be "too fine"?

Istanbul is presently my favorite vacation spot.
Very beautiful with lots of historical places to visit, and the street food is top-notch.
It has gotten a bit more expensive compared to about 4 years ago, but it's still a good bargain for the money, especially when compared to other European cities.
