The Beginning of Roanoke Colony

In 1587, more than 100 English settlers landed on Roanoke Colony, off the coast of today’s North Carolina. Led by John White, they hoped to start England’s first permanent settlement in the New World.

Roanoke Colony. They built homes, planted crops, and tried to adapt to the strange new environment. But survival was hard — food was scarce, relations with some Native tribes were tense, and disease was a constant threat.

John White’s Journey Back to England

Later that same year, Governor John White sailed back to England for more supplies. full details in Source. He expected to return quickly, but the war between England and Spain delayed him for three years.

This was during the reign of Elizabeth 1 I believe!!

One thing I love about the English, they were willing to explore, find wealth and bring back home to develop their country. Unlike we African especially the blacks.

They explored the Americas, Asia, Africa.

Failed and try again. If only we Africans were of the same mentality. Even today our elites just want to steal from Africa and invest abroad. Then import their dead bodies to be buried home

You could have easily posted the whole article here and people would have engaged instead of directing them to a link.

Nah only you go click am. Instead of clicking on your link, I'll go and Google the story independently.

You can't force or trick people to your website in 2025, people are more informed now.

You mean their love for STEALING other people's wealth. Portugal's exploration of the world didn't turn out to be one aimed at stealing.

That's how the world worked back then. You go out to get resources to grow your country, both human and material. if our own black nations were more adventurous, they would have gone out to see development and copy it, bring back slaves to do the hard labour.

It's a percularity of the British most especially. Russia didn't become great by stealing others wealth.

The point is they had others nearby to take advantage of easily. England could not easily take advantage of Scotland, and since they were of same religion and intermarry among fellow Europeans they had to have some respect for each other at some point, even though there were wars at some point. A European Russian isn't the same ethnicity as a Caucasus Dagestan, kurgistaan e.t.c they could easily get resources from those lands to build the main European side of russia
