COMRADES @ op, did you fall within the age bracket? If yes, then go ahead and join the army. Because in my own case age was what disqualified me then

Presently, enlisting into the Nigerian army is very much equivalent to signing your own death warrant with your own hands . angry
Re: Nigerian Military Doctors by RandomFellow: 10:13pm On Aug 12, 2025
Nigeria Military is not something you can just join. How old are you? Where did you school? Are you licenced to practice by the Nigeria Medical and Dental Council? Are you fit? Can you be a soldier?

Well you could also join as a civilian doctor; but your pay will not be as good as that of tour colleagues who are officers. Besides, the respect won't be there. I mean, you're a bloody civilian. When your colleague who is an officer comes, everyone will stand-up to salute. When you enter, no body will even greet you

The Nigerian Navy is better.
My dad retired as a Lt. Commander as he was a doctor with the Nigerian Navy Hospital in Navy Town, Lagos

I don't think the army accepts just about anyone to be a military doctor. You didn't go through NDA and the army considers combat training a core component of the training of all its cadets.
Your training as a medical doctor is one thing. The ability to hold your nerves in an active theatre of combat is another thing.

However, if you must, the army requires that you are registered and up to date with the qualifications any doctor needs to practice in Nigeria. You mentioned that you are a consultant. If you are less than 40 years of age, then the army will welcome you.

If you're a consultant and within a certain age brackert(I think 35 years) you can get commissioned in the rank of Major. Just check previous DSSC vacancies for the three services and confirm the criteria.

Navy!!!!!!!!!!, I would suggest Navy. They are more organised, structured and well supported. I got few working there as medical professionals.

have always loved to be a military doctor, but I dont think I can really do that with the current state of things in the country.
Re: Nigerian Military Doctors by fineboynl(m): 11:27pm On Aug 12, 2025
I don't think you want to join. Is like you just need money. There was a time was the military during buhari recruiting mechanics, rewire, technician and other professionals into the military. Some people I know joined them. But they were using them and paying the same salary as normal soldier. If they need to fix their vehicles on emergency those guys will be called to look into it. But it doesn't always end well. A normal mechanic earn more than the same status of a military mechanic.

It's better you join private medical field than the military.

You can join the military through the Direct Service Commission as a Medical Doctor.

There are certain disadvantages going through this route though.

Why are you contradicting yourself?

If he wants to join at this stage, he will be considering Direct Short Service Commission, and you obviously don't need battle experience or training for that.
