KWAM 1 vs ‘KWAM 2’: Nigerians Decry Double Standards In Aviation Offence Cases by bazoodo(op): 9:40pm On Aug 11, 2025
The arrest and remand of an Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, now dubbed “KWAM 2” has ignited fresh controversy over alleged double standards in Nigeria’s handling of aviation security breaches.

Emmanson was charged to court and remanded in Kirikiri Prison after allegedly assaulting airline officials on an Ibom Air flight.

However, some Nigerians are now comparing her case to that of Fuji music legend Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate or KWAM 1, whose airport incident last week was followed by an apology.

KWAM 1 reportedly carried a flask onboard at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on August 5, and allegedly splashed its contents on an officer during a heated exchange.

In a follow-up video, the singer denied the flask contained alcohol, insisting it was water for medical reasons, and apologised to the Presidency, aviation authorities, and Nigerians at large.

Some social media users are now of the opinion that KWAM 1 and Emmanson’s incidents, which they classify as aviation offences, should be treated with the same legal weight.

On Instagram, #yung_hannibal wrote, “Apology is enough .. what is good for KWAM1 is good for KWAM 2.”

#heychiomaa also commented, “Why is she being remanded? She should just apologize and all will be forgiven. What is good for egusi is good for uganda. K1 poured water on the officer. That is an assault.

“He also went in front of the plane and tried to physically restrain it from moving. Since we are now calling for punishment for assault, K1 should also be charged to court. The offence is the same.”

#papiwemba wrote, “But K1 is at home? After spilling drinks on captain and hijacking a plane. In this country if you don’t have political power. Just waka jeje.”

#hrhdejavu also wrote, “Serious double standard … this lady is now the scape goat while K1 was allowed to walk away freely with an apology. Nigeria my Country Citizens you better know person.”

#ijodee_arts commented, “This is precisely the course of action aviation security should have taken when K1 also refused to comply with the Captain’s instructions. If this unidentified woman is now to be lawfully prosecuted and face the full consequences, then the same standard must be applied to K1.

“While K1’s apology is acknowledged and accepted, the prescribed legal penalty should still be enforced as outlined by law. Doing so will set a clear example for anyone who seeks to break the rules of Nigerian aviation.”

Some others accused authorities of favouritism, pointing to reports that Lagos transport union leader MC Oluomo intervened on K1’s behalf.

“Make them plead on K2’s behalf as well,” #ashad0206 wrote, while #oluwakemi_ahmed quipped, “K2 De Ultimate.”

On Twitter, #OurFavOnlineDoc wrote: Comfort Emmanson, the passenger who assaulted airline officials on that Ibom Air flight has reportedly been charged to court and is now remanded in KiriKiri prisons for her next court appearance. So KWAM2 is already in prison while KWAM1 is chilling at home for the same offence.”

#OmotayoShokefun also commented, “If to say K1 don dey prison already, this thing for no dey happen. Funny thing be say .. kwam 2 go go prison or pay fine .. but kwam 1 will be a free man.”

Some individuals also demanded consequences for the Ibom Air crew member alleged to have filmed Emmanson while she was partially nude during the altercation, accusing the airline of breaching her privacy.

#iam_damayor wrote, “The ibom air staff that recorded Kwam2 nude part and posted it is going to be in very serious trouble. Ibom air will also be held culpable unless he is indeed not their staff.”

The controversy also spilled onto Facebook, with Ohioma Imonikhe warning: “K1 escaped, but K2 couldn’t. A serious warning to K3 as well as all the intending Kssssss.”

While the two cases are not entirely the same, Ibom's staff is also wrong here. On international flights, I've never seen flight attendants enforce the switching off of phones; they usually ask calmly.

Question is how come Kwam1 1 wasn't bundled off the foot of the plane by airport security officials the way this lady was bundled off the planehuh
Aviation authorities claim kwam 1 was holding a plane hostage. How can an unarmed man surrounded by over 5 airport officials- clearly of course he was out manned- how can such a man hold a whole plane hostage?? Is that possible?? You just couldn't arrest and bundle him out because of his status. Meanwhile for this lady that was easy

Punishing kwam 2 and allowing kwam 1 to go scot free after committing similar assault is unfair. The lady was bundled like a Christmas goat out of the plane and was tied like a chicken inside the bus when she no wan hear word. While kwam 1 was been begged to leave after eviction from the plane.
Kwam 1 was high on alcohol while kwam 2 was high on phone addiction. If kwam 1 had been punished, kwam 2 would have behaved herself.

I even read on instagram from another passenger account on same plane saying the reason she assaulted the crew was because she was not allowed to leave the plane for refusing to switch off her phone throughout the journey after she was advised and warned. She would have a strong case in this situation except where it’s evident that the her assault against the crew started from take off

And even then, if you show them you're on flight mode, they leave you alone!

I've regularly used my phone throughout international flights with zero issues. I listen to music and play games to keep myself engaged. No one harassed me, the phone has what is called "flight mode" for a reason. It's there for flights.

I learned she told them the phone was on flight mode, and they kept insisting that she switch it off.

If you read the report from the airline, a fellow passenger had to snatch the phone from her to switch it off because the little rascal bluntly refused to on take off at Uyo.

They probably first asked calmly, then had to be more forceful which they have a right to be as they don't want to die because some immature girl doesn't care that the mobile phone signals can interfere with the flight controls.

The only fault the airline has was they shouldn't have flown with her and her oversized mamaries once she acted like that at Uyo. Get the police to remove her and let her find a different flight that will take her and make her someone else's problem.

Her case has now become "if they don't teach you at home, they will teach you outside". We await her tearful apology anyway.

Nigerians tend to be emotional with everything.
While both the airlines involved, kwam1 and Kwam2 all chop crase, the offenders committed different offenses. One was being stubborn while the other was being physically violent and resisted arrest. No be everything be politics. They committed different offenses. Kwam1 wasn’t allowed to board the plane at all while kwam2 boarded the plane and refused to follow the safety protocols thereby putting the lives of the other passengers in danger and even went as far as slapping one of the crew members. It’s because you are Nigerian that made you think slapping someone is “normal” during a fight. Kwam1 mumu normally but still cautioned himself against going physical. So, naturally, they are both expected to not carry the same punishment. Some are already giving it political coloration.

Eni a le mu la n ledi mo...It is common knowledge that we tend to act against those we have power over, not necessarily everyone who is guilty. Even if she messed up, the double standard of dealing with issues is a sad reality. Kwam1 didn't slap airline staff, but he was unruly and he behaved badly while another video
also showed the Ibom airline staff didn't handle the lady's case well... obviously, there's double standard at play undecided
Re: KWAM 1 vs ‘KWAM 2’: Nigerians Decry Double Standards In Aviation Offence Cases by asolocoaso:
#Keyamo has no constitutional authority to place any citizen on a no-fly list without the due process of a competent court or the involvement of law enforcement agencies. His recent actions amount to a blatant abuse of office and a dangerous overreach into the constitutional rights of Nigerians.

#AttorneyGeneralFagbemi is complicit by remaining silent as Keyamo arrogates to himself powers that belong to the judiciary. The Attorney General’s duty is to defend the constitution, not to watch idly while ministers turn into judge, jury, and executioner.

#The legislative arm of government must urgently address this overreach. Keyamo was not elected as a law officer; he is the Minister of Aviation, not the Minister of Justice. Being a lawyer does not give him the authority to bypass courts or sidestep due process. This is an assault on basic human rights.

#The swiftness with which a passenger was sent to Kirikiri within 24 hours, while KWAM1 remains free after a public breach of aviation safety, is a slap in the face to every Nigerian. It exposes an administration that picks and chooses who the law applies to.

#President Tinubu’s growing disregard for the rule of law is alarming. By permitting such selective justice, he is undermining the oath he swore to protect the rights of all Nigerians. The trajectory is dangerous , and it is getting worse.

When talking on social media platforms , u guys should make use of your brains , so since Bobyrisky went to jail and Cubana chief priest didn't and you were waiting for nigeria to condemn that but they couldn’that's made the whole thing right? So we shouldn't condemn the govt for their preferential treatment against poor

Yes. Comparison is only made with the west when you want to justify wrong.

Y'all get angry when the same west is used in comparison to highlight Nigeria's shortcomings.

So because Biden and Trump did it makes it right, ideal or acceptable.

Where did K1 get a presidential pardonhuh Oh I guess it was just automatic.

While citing the few anomalies in other climes as justification for bad behavior in Nigeria, try to also cite their economy, security, independent Judiciary and free and fair electoral system as points Nigeria should also be judged by. Don't only copy nonsense from people, also copy their strengths
