chudez0147:Seriously I'd love to read your version/opinion/story of Ghana. You seem grounded in that settlement to wonder what it is like there. Is Nigeria that far off? If so why are they condemning Nigerians and asking them to go? Do they feel inferior to Nigerians like the southies do? I am curious pls. |

africaBlogworld:I don't blame you... You don't travel around the country. I'm sure this is your first time living that your enclave you called home in Port Harcourt. I'm sure it's River-line area you live, poor quality pictures from your phone didn't say otherwise. |

May1st:Gh is a peaceful country. Aside that nothing special about them. Yes they feel inferior to Nigerians. They’d usually tell you that Nigerians are way too smarter than them. No thanks to the bad Nigerians who also make things hard for themselves and others . Living in Nigeria is like living in three or four countries simultaneously. Yes Nigeria is far off. Thank you |

Warmaterial:Lies! I know Ghana inside and out. Not rosy as you are painting it. Many Ghanaians wish to be Nigerians because of our lifestyle. Besides, costs of living in Nigeria is far better than Ghana. Ghanaians hate Nigerians because of envy. Not because Nigerians are more criminally minded than their Ghanaian counterparts. Please, don't come and deceive the general public. |

Mariangeles:@Mariangeles, Read my post real good to the end as there are "deep insights" for you to learn from. I've been a veteran member of this discussion forum since 2005 (for 20 years now) and I've had prior cordial convos with you on this discussion forum for some years now WITHOUT you ever making these totally baseless and FALSE accusations about my comments until now. I assume that truth hits really hard. I logged in to see your highly off-putting, disrespectful and misleading rant! YOU must learn to RESPECT my HONEST opinions (and other people's intelligent opinions and contributions) here on NL as long as it's NOT a threat. You are obviously using "passive-aggresive" tactics to try to silence me and deflect attention from the pure facts stated in my post and I find that highly offensive. I NEVER mentioned any ethnic group in my post on this same thread BUT you allowed yourself to get needlessly emotional and riled up. As a veteran member of this website since 2005, I ABSOLUTELY DON'T owe you ANY apologies for stating my honest opinions on the pure FACTS and statistics that are already well-known in the international public domain which have been published by the international mass media and based on Police and criminal intelligence reports which I'm privy to for over 25 years now from the Ghanain Police and from other jurisdictions around the world. There are recent Web links which I will attach right BELOW as evidence to confirm the sequence of events which led to the mass protests in Ghana! For your information, I have a long-term background in criminal investigations. On the contrary, YOU (as an Imo indigene) are infact the one displaying signs of a "tribalistic agenda" if YOU CANNOT accept the honest truth or reality which brings about self-awareness and social reforms. Just recently, the Anambra State Governor bluntly declared in a viral video while in the United States in July 2025 that 99.99% of the crimes committed in Anambra State are done by people who are indigenous to his home state and NOT outsiders such as the Fulas as being FALSELY circulated. For stating the obvious TRUTH, some of his irresponsible kinsmen attacked him for stating the obvious while a few others applauded him. There are 2 famous ancient mantras which state CLEARLY that: 1] "Man, Know Thyself" and 2] "The TRUTH Will Set You FREE" Last but NOT least, I'm attracted to people who uphold the truth (NOT ethnic bigots using passive-aggresive tactics while masquerading as altruistic people). If you don't like my honest opinion on anything I post here as a veteran NL member of 20 years (and the TRUTH is too hot for you to handle) then skip right over any of my posts and kick rocks. Period. |

FreeIgboho:I differ a bit on Ghana's status which has obviously improved since 1988... I also MUST emphasize that Nigeria is a work in progress based on the 1988 and 2025 Nigeria that I know so well. Infrastructure-wise, Nigeria is different with more modernity, BUT economic-wise, I believe it will get better within the next two years with some political and economic frameworks such as the constitutional amendments being put in place and the gradual decentralization of items from the EXCLUSIVE list to the CONCURRENT list. As of today, Nigerian States can NOW build power plants and generate electricity. Security around Nigeria would improve exponentially with more surveillance and weaponized drones alongside the proposed community and State Policing. Lagos State is already gearing up to totally crash the price of food items by 50% of the current value (as announced by the brilliant FIRST EVER female Commissioner for Agriculture in Lagos State, Ms. Abisola Olusanya in June 2025 and the launch of 150 CNG-fuel 40ft haulage trucks under the "Produce for Lagos" program which other State Governors and their Commissioners for Agriculture in Enugu, Rivers, Ogun, Kano States, etc, can copy and adapt to their own unique ecosystems. Just as I stated, I flew by a commercial wide-bodied airplane (an Airbus A-310) right into a weather-beaten Kotoka Airport, Accra in Ghana en route to the nearby well-planned Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire in 1988. The Airbus aircraft later took off and landed at the Felix Houphoet-Boigny International Airport in Abidjan where I went to on an international conference at Hotel D'Ivoire in the Cocody area and more. The Ghana of 2025 is way more developed than the Ghana of 1988. The Kotoka International Airport was just an ordinary-looking airport (littered with some broken down air planes) BUT as of the turn of 2020 has now been modernised to international standards with more modern airports built as well in Ghanaian cities since my first visit to Ghana in 1988. Accra is even more beautiful than it ever was in the 1980s with wider roads and more tourist and business infrastructure. This is why it's absolutely IRRESPONSIBLE that some creeps with origins from Nigeria who don't care about the image of where they come from went to Ghana to relentlessly commit heinous crimes for over 20 years now cumulatively based on the many arrests made by the Ghana Police, then the intelligence and mass media reports which I'm privy to over the years which really upset Ghanaian citizens more thereby tarnishing the conducive environment for other innocent Nigerians and triggered the recent mass protests of July 2025 right into August 2025. Keeping "a good reputation" around the world is a pure act of "SELF-AWARENESS" which really matters for personal branding and global respect. Second, the political space is more democratic and the people are still largely friendly if you have a pure heart BUT once you cross the line, Ghanaians will NOT tolerate NONSENSE. Ghana just recently discovered more crude oil and gas reserves in addition to what they have before now so in addition to higher cocoa prices and higher gold reserves from their gold mines, things are ONLY gonna look up for Ghana and Ghanains now and down the road. Back in the 1970s and 1980s when Ghanaian immigrants and other foreign expats from Britain, the United States, India, Bangladesh, etc, came into Nigeria to work in the academic space (primary, secondary, Unis) and industries due to the oil boom, I had contacts and made timeless friendships with Ghanain folks some of who are still my buddies based in the United States right till today who started leaving Nigeria with their families for greener pastures in Europe, Canada and America starting from 1986 (due to the Gen. IBB era of the economically challenging Structural Adjustment Program or SAP). |

Una sure say I go continue this story, because wahala don dey happen already, some people don cuss me like say na me do make Ghanians dey shout Nigeria must go. I think it's time I close this chapter for this Chaos I see from even enlightened people claiming to have traveled far and wide yet behave like children is alarming. I only came to share my real life story, but some people have taken it personal to the point of even calling out my sister, some are even cussing, saying weda I don travel before and all sort of things exemplifying why truly being a Nigerian is a cuss on its own. I am sure if I was a white person, all this would be different, now I see that the divide in Nigeria is really deep. |

fayomim:1. International Passport or Ecowas travel certificate.(I used passport because I will be traveling to another country soon) Passport costs more than the travel certificate. 2. Yellow card. 3. Just have your Nin card in standby. You never can tell when you might need it. I hope this helps. Peace profound. |

chudez0147:their roads are good. From Benin republic to Togo till aflao and drive inside ghana for ten hours maybe till tema or Accra or dodowa you won't experience a pot hole. Security is top notch, no unnecessary road blocks or check points, you can come out at midnight anywhere and still get a cab. The country is organized. Ghana is miles ahead. I lived there for four years. |

After all the wahala on the road, we finally rolled into Accra Mall at after midnight. Some passengers started dropping off, so I quickly called my sister to tell her, “Omo, I don land for Accra Mall o.” She said, “Good, just come down there and find a ride to East Legon Hills.” No wahala until I started asking around and the drivers began quoting 150 Ghana Cedis. I don't know who told them that once they see a Nigerian, it's billing time but as I no be Billie Jean, The Nigerian in me immediately opened my mental calculator… when I saw the naira conversion, I almost fainted. 150 cedis just to carry me? Na transport or plot of land? While I was still negotiating and frowning, my airtime finished classic village people like some bitter Nairalanders move. I had to wait until my sister called me back and sent an Uber because I am new with the SIM card and I didn't know how to recharge. Finally, the Uber guy arrived. I was happy… until I saw his face. The man looked like I had just stolen his babe. He didn’t even greet me or exchange pleasantries, and to crown it all, he stood there watching while I carried my heavy bags into his car by myself. Omoh na so Ghanians dey ![]() At that moment, I started thinking: So some Ghanaians no dey friendly like that sha… Maybe he thought I came to steal his girlfriend or marry his sister. We started moving, and then out of nowhere, the guy increased the volume of his radio at past midnight! I was looking at him like, Bros, wetin be this? I politely told him to reduce it… he acted like he didn’t even hear me. Na so I stylishly reach forward and reduced the volume myself. Peace restored. If you do anyhow you go see my rage this night. ![]() From Accra Mall through the quiet streets, past a few speed bumps and patches of bad road and some police check points, we finally pulled into East Legon Hills. One thing I observed was that the police on the roads were polite. Then we arrived my destination, you know that Uber sound when you have reached your destination , it sounded like victory at last at about 01:15am on Monday 14th and the moment I stepped down and saw my sister ,my blood, my padi, whom I hadn’t seen in four years! Omo, my tiredness vanished. I just thanked God and smiled at last all powerful master you have granted me the strength to continue and stay resilient despite all. To be continued… Special Dedication to God Almighty for journey mercies and thank you all. Peace profound

And that, my friends, is where we’ll pause this epic road movie. 🚍✨ I set out to share a traveller’s tale , part comedy, part survival manual, part Lord, see me through. Because I also carried my Oil for Hair n Beards called Rakamo Oil to push my brand into Ghana I wanted to paint the checkpoints, the suya stops, the stubborn drivers, the Uber attitude, and even the bladder emergencies, so anyone planning to ply my route, from Port Harcourt to Accra would know exactly what they’re signing up for and be guided. But alas… in true Nairaland fashion, my story got hijacked like 2023 Election. Somewhere between Badagry and Aflao, my travel story was forcefully deported into Tribal War Season 9 by some Ill mannered people without home training or the stomach to see others succeed. Yes you! Am talking about you, you know yourselves. And I’m not here for that. So, like a wise passenger who smells trouble at a dodgy checkpoint, I’m stepping off here. 🛑 But don’t think the journey is over , oh no!, The real gist, the behind-the-scenes, the uncut footage, and the final chapters are waiting for you where people actually care about the trip, not the tribe. Catch the rest on my travel blog and vlogs. Because here, it’s no longer about Lagos to Accra. It’s about Lagos to Sense. For those of you that like violence in this Nairaland, I pray that you begin to receive sense. IJN Mic dropped. 🎤🚶🏾♂️

Mariangeles:Young lady... You're still going on with your confirmation bias and defamatory comments on an open forum, and it shows you didn't read my last post properly to understand my POV. You clearly require" emotional intelligence" training with these totally baseless, irritable random comments you've been making. I don't want this insightful Ghana travel thread to be derailed otherwise I would have posted damning videos and other credible intelligence evidence that will stun you here BUT I'll do that down the road on another thread or via PM. You're just making stuffs up in your head without understanding the contexts of whatever of my posts you're referencing, and your supposed "sadness" and "disappointment" isn't credible but highly dishonest to me. |
