Abia Community Ban Scrap Dealers, Cultism, Issue Tough New Community Rules by Metrix147(op): 11:24pm On Aug 12, 2025
The Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, HRH Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha (JP), in collaboration with the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders and key community stakeholders, has issued a set of strict resolutions aimed at restoring peace, order, and respect for tradition in the community.

The resolutions were reached during an emergency meeting held on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the Ebem Ujurueze Palace, Ekeluogo, in response to rising incidents of lawlessness, moral decline, and disregard for cultural values by both indigenes and non-indigenes in the area.

Key highlights from the meeting include:

Motor Park Regulation: No two motor parks operating the same route will be permitted within 500 metres of each other. All motor parks must contribute annually to community infrastructure and comply with decisions of the Ebem Council of Chiefs and Elders.

Ban on Fetish Practices: Resorting to fetish means (Agbara) to settle disputes is prohibited. Offenders will pay ₦500,000 and perform a traditional Life Oath (Igba Ndu). Native doctors must operate within the bounds of Ebem’s customs.

Respect for Traditional Instructions: Misuse of cultural instruments like Akang to destroy property is banned. Offenders will face punishment under Ebem tradition. The sale of cooking gas in Ebem Market is prohibited.

No to Cultism and Drugs: Cultism, gangsterism, and drug abuse are outlawed. Landlords who shelter offenders risk sanctions. Anyone found with illegal arms will be handed over to the police.

Ban on Scrap Dealers (Akpakara): Scrap dealing is banned due to links with vandalism and theft. Operators have two weeks to vacate the community or face disciplinary measures.

Prohibition of Return of Banished Persons: Criminals previously banished from Ebem will not be allowed back. Persons banished from other communities are also barred from settling in Ebem.

Accountability for Age Grades: Age grades that fail to complete assigned community projects will be held responsible. Age grades must also discipline members who threaten peace.

The communiqué, signed by HRH Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha (JP) and other community leaders, sends a strong message of zero tolerance for activities threatening the stability and heritage of Ebem Ohafia.

Other signatories include Chief Emeka Mba (President General, EODU), Elder Idika Kalu Uche (Secretary General, EODU), Ifeanyi Okali (PRO, EODU), Chief Iro Nkwa Agwu, Mr. Uduma Okoro, and Barr. Anaga Kalu.

The leadership urged all residents to comply immediately, warning that enforcement will be strict and in line with both traditional and statutory laws.

Ohafia kwenu. This is the right way to go. Lawlessness must be wiped out from every village in Ohafia. Thank God that Ebem is taking the lead.

There are laws everywhere in Nogeria, plenty unenforced laws. The main problem is enforcement of these laws. They look good on papper, but can they be really enforced?

Don't worry yourself. These people know what it takes to enforce their own laws. That is Ebem Ohafia, not some country governed by unserious people .

All southern states need to ban all scrap dealers, criminals and terrorists infiltrate disguised as scrap dealers.

It is dangerous allowing hungry undocumented people roam free around your community and state. Southern governors and local government authorities must secure their people, baning scrap dealers is a good way to go.

This is welcome and a good initiative.
But the banishment of people, I am not too comfortable it with it.
because I am try to wrap my head around it. which type of offense can 0ne commit that will warrant a band from his own community for life. I mean tough punishment will me okay
this is my own opinion

Fantastic. Certainly that community has witnessed hell in the hands of those vandals.

There should be no doubt about it. No delay in implementation. There’s no peace nationwide with this scrap dealers. It is an epidemic. Governments at the states and federal levels should give such orders too.

No house is safe. No car is safe. Manholes are not safe. Children’s properties are vandalized. These vicious fellow injure and murder just to vandalize. Those arrested should be prosecuted and locked away for long periods.

Why is there a ban on the sale of gas in the market, has there been too many cases of explosions in the market. Sometimes things like this need to be done with seasoned lawyers, who may not be members of the community.

Communities enforce their laws far better than the government.
In a village close to my home, no boy is allow to have dread and now girl is allowed outside after 10pm without family member and you dare not disobey

It’s the right thing to do, scrap dealers should be banned. If they exist they should be highly regulated and monitored. They are the ones responsible for damage to infrastructure because they reward these people for vandalism and theft .

Only banned in the Market, perhaps, cos it's a fire hazard.

I won't forget the day one northern scrap dealer came into my site on a Sunday when no one was around, and stole one small iron gate 🤣🤣🤣🤣
