I think too much reliance on petrodollars made the Arab world of Asia extremely unproductive and uncreative, affecting their ability to compete in games too.

The only thing saving the Gulf world is that they have leaders who are genuinely committed to fixing their countries. Most of the skyscrapers in the Middle East were built by American and European companies.

A lot of those boys from North Africa on the national team are mixed race. They have Black African in them. They are not the same as Middle East Arab.

Honour with commitment. Sudan of all the countries beat us 4-0 yesterday. They haven't been playing their League for years now yet our team who have been playing local league regularly performed woefully

But when you come from a country where the government practically pays everyone salaries and buys you a house like it's done in Qatar (thanks to too much money from oil and gas sales), why would you deny yourself all these things to be outstanding at sports?

Very true. Colonial and cultural affinity and proximity with Europe has made North African teams more competitive than their ME counterparts. Also, the afcon is the oldest continental football competition in the world. The rich history of west afrrican football in the competition has helped better the quality of those Arab countries in Africa. That said, apart from Egypt, every other NA country hasn't dominated African football like Nigeria and Cameroon and the rest in West and central Africa. That's not also to say that Egypt and co are better than Iran and Iraq, etc. In fact, Iran has qualified for more World cups than Egypt.
